The head Nintendo man Satoru Iwata said he believes Nintendo is in a position to rescue the Japanese video games market. This is despite the fact that the Wii is losing its lustre in Japan, with sales at their all time low. Iawata says that no price cut is planned, though. He is confident that the Wii can match the Playstation 3's growing momentum in Japan, and retake the top spot. Time will tell if he is correct.

Nintendo has finally confirmed a date for Wii Sports Resort, the Wii Sports sequel that is made to work with the Wii MotionPlus accessory. The game will be released in June in Japan, with an "overseas" release following, sometime in July. It is expected that the game will be released along with the Wii MotionPlus peripheral, but Nintendo did not mention the hardware in the announcement at all. We wonder what exactly is going on with this blasted Wii MotionPlus. The rumors of problems are piling up.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse was released in Japan for the Wii last year. Since then, fans of the series have been clamoring for the game here in the US. The gamers here have been waiting for an announcement from Tecmo's US subsidiary, but it never came. Now, it seems that it may never come, unfortunately. Nintendo published the game in Japan, and was thought to be planning the same for the US. This is not going to happen, which only leaves Tecmo as a publisher. Since Nintendo holds the publishing rights to the Grasshopper developed game, and has decided not to publish it here in the US, it more or less seals the fate of Fatal Frame. Sorry folks, it looks like the fatal blow for Fatal Frame Wii.

Nintendo's Wii console is the least used this generation, according to a new study by the TV experts, Nielsen. Nielsen's State of the Video Gamer report for December 2008 revealed that the Wii had an average usage of five days, compared to 6.8 for the PS3 and 7.1 to the Xbox360. The average session was 58 minutes for the Wii, 64 minutes for the PS3, and 78 minutes for the Xbox360. The survey also collected PS2, XBox, and Gamecube data, and the Wii and Gamecube usage patterns are very similar, it seems.

Sean Ratcliffe, the VP of Marketing for Sega in the US, revealed that there is a definite possibility that we will see more MadWorld titles in the future. The game stirred up much controversy because of its violent nature, and that only helped to propel sales of the Wii beat-em-up. Depending on how popular the game proves int he end, a sequel may be inevitable.

Apparently, manufacturing costs for the Nintendo Wii have dropped 45% since the console's release in 2006. This is according to an analyst at Credit Suisse named Koya Tabata. He added that Nintendo had room to cut the price of the Wii even more to stimulate sales, and might just do that before the Holiday Season this year. We told you yesterday that the PS3 outsold the Wii in Japan for the first time in 16 months, but the Wii still sold 100,000 units.

Apparently, there may be a Wii Fit Plus package on the way for the new Nintendo console. A GoNintendo reader grabbed a snapshot of a release date list from a local shop, and it shows a title called "Wii Fit Plus." It also shows a July release date for the Wii Motion Plus peripheral. Rumor mill for now, but what they could add to the Wii Fit Software, we are not sure.

We had to wait until it was past April Fool's Day to post this because it would have been taken as a joke, for sure. The Nintendo Wii is getting a Silent Hill game. Don't get your hopes up, though, it is a remake. Well, actually, they are calling it a "re-imagining" of the original Silent Hill. Konami says it is not a "remake" or a "port." Whether or not this means there will be new story elements, we are not sure. According to the Nintendo Power article, the characters will play different roles than in the original, and things won't necessarily happen in the same order. Apparently, the story is taken in "lots of new directions." More info when we get it.
