MadWorld Wii Sells Modestly >
2009/04/17 12:36:04: Posted by DM
Sega's violent, controversy-laden, bloody, beat-em-up for the Wii, MadWorld, has sold only modestly, according to the most recent sales numbers. The game sold 66,000 units in the US since March 10th, according to NPD. The game's violence is purposefully done over the top, and Sega hoped it would help sell the game. Unfortunately, the game gets fairly repetitive after two or three levels have been completed. The "omg did you see that" factor wears off quickly.

More Epic fail for "this gen's" console sales leader.

How is moderate sales "epic fail"?

Wii consoles on market + decent, actual game (that Wii owners have apparently been craving) = 66K sales?

That's not good.

Install base argument isn't the strongest of arguments to use.

Hype, budget, sales projections, etc are more important than marketshare sales ratios.

I'm not saying it's good or great, but I wouldn't call it an epic fail. That's just being dramatic.

Also:

"We've kind of assumed that Sega's double shot of M-rated offerings on the Wii underperformed, because ... well, because it's the Wii. But if Sega of America VP Sean Ratcliffe is to be believed, we might just have sneered at MadWorld and House of the Dead: Overkill's numbers too soon.

Ratcliffe told VentureBeat, "House of the Dead has done very well and has absolutely met our expectations. The first set of data for MadWorld is very encouraging, as well." We know that Overkill only sold 45,000 units in February, but if that's good enough for Sega, it's just enough to allow us to keep the hope of an Overkill sequel alive in our hearts without feeling like cockeyed optimists."

All Wii games get repetitive, didn't expect this 1 to be any different!!!!

Man, some of you guys act like Nintendo kicked your dog or something with how quick you are to bash.

Constant wand waiving is no different as constant button pressing, it works the other way as well. Wii games are no more repetitive than any 360 or PS3 title of the same type.

He is saying epic fail because he has obviously been waiting for some negative Wii related news to jump on.

Wii sales hurt his ego.
