3 Million HDTV Owners Screwed With Next Gen DVD Format >
2006/02/27 13:41:15: Posted by DM
In what people are calling the worst mass screwing of electronics consumers in history, it has been revealed that the new next gen DVD formats will only work with HDMI/DVI connections. Not only that but they will need to have HDCP to work, which is not even equiped on most HDMI/DVI switchers. What a nightmare. Does this mean that Playstation 3 will only work with HDMI/DVI inputs since the data comes from a Blu-Ray disc? Hopefully not. (Thanks, HardWood)

No, PS3 won't be HD-only. You'll still be able to use the regular non-HD output for older/CRT tvs.

Where do you get that? Do you mean a non-HD signal from the Blueray drive? According to the article on IGN, a Blueray "signal" will only pass through an HDMI port. The article indicates that anything coming off of the Blueray must use HDMI. The only way around this that I can see, given what the article said, is to release games on DVD (the drive will play both formats) so that the $3 million non-HDMI HDTV owners and all of the millions of SDTV owners can play the games. This will limit the Blueray drive to movie playback only, unless Sony wants to have its games released on two different disk formats.

"3 million non-HDMI"... not "$3 million"

hmm whose stupid enough to buy an hdtv without an hdmi input? hdmi offers the best image quality, if you were interested in HD in the first place, this input should've been a requirement when looking for an hdtv unit
