Xbox360 Premiums To Come With 100GB HDD Now? >
2006/03/12 18:35:14: Posted by DM
According to this post on XBox.com, there is an internal Best Buy document that says that new Xbox360 Premium systems will include a 100GB HDD instead of the previous 20GB HDD. This is a huge step up if true, the only reason we can see MS doing this is if that Direct TV downloadable TV show rumor was also true. Rumor mill for now. (Thanks, KPunk)

Sounds good ;)

reduce 20gb hdd to 30 bucks and increase make 100 gig 100 bucks

Written by optaviusx on 2006/03/12

Yep thats what I expect to happen neo ;)
Written by Itaintrite on 2006/03/12

Not that I care, but I don't think this will happen, not for a while, at least, not until the PS3's out. Why? 360 has barely launched. If they're going to release a BETTER premium pack for the same price, the ones who bought the first version will be pissed. It's a diff matter if they increase the price, but that'd be an even worse idea.

The only way I see this happening is if they release a larger HDD as an addon. Or wait till PS3 is out and decrease the price of the core pack.

Why didnt they do that in the first place? god now i gotta get a memory card to transfer my saves from my old HDD to the new one. they better be sold separatly which i think is very likely.
Written by Omar (90) on 2006/03/12

When u get the system and check the memory status, it won't say 100GB I'll say...50GB,LOl!
Written by TaiZ on 2006/03/12

Itaintright, you took the words right outta my mouth.

That would be a VERY bad move, they would have to have some kind of deal to trade in the old HDD for the new 100GB one, or to get it for like half price. I know I would be pissed.
Written by DM on 2006/03/13

nah they wont have jack crap, sony upgraded hardware through 7 ps2 models or more and there were no deals hehe it sucks but ms wont care u watch
Written by Itaintrite on 2006/03/13

DM, get your facts right. There were 12 PS2 models (not counting the slim ones), but they don't differ much. All Sony did was fix bugs and switch to cheaper materials.

This is totally different. If the rumour were true, then Microsoft would be screwing hundreds of thousands of people who bought their premium packs just a few months ago. They will care, trust me, they will when millions of gamers ditch their console.

Itaintrie, he said 'or more' and Microsoft wouldn't be screwing anybody, anyone who bought a launch window 360 had to have been semi-serious gamers who know their facts because of their limited supply, and Microsoft made no secret of possible future upgrades and addons, anyone who feels screwed by Microsoft isn't seeing the point, you don't HAVE to buy the 100GB hard disk or the new package if they do it that way, it's all about choice.
Written by WORMGERM on 2006/03/13

The guy I know who like works for microsoft says like big things are coming. I mean a 10 terabyte HD. I am just gonna post a stupid wink face now so you will believe me ;)
Written by Fade To Black (1) on 2006/03/13

yo

Let me tell you the reason the one reason this will never happen. There would be alot of very pissed customers not to mention the most dedicated ones. Most of the people the have the premium package right now either waited on line for hours or they waited months to even get it. It would end up being a PR nightmare for them. You will only see larger HD's as a separate add on upgrade that is "OPTIONAL"
Written by nonamemofo (1) on 2006/03/13

I work at bestbuy and there has been information passed to us about a shortening of premium systems being sent to the stores, it is unclear if this is from microsoft or from our own corporate. Included in the memo is that a reason and more news will come soon to explain why this is happening... -Something- is going to happen but unless that guy has deeper inside knowledge, that just seems like speculation.

... i bought my original xbox on the release date and was offered 2 games and an extra controller when they lowered the price soon after release. If this 100gb hard disk does surface, expect microsoft to send out some upgrades to registered 360 owners.
Written by Mash (118) on 2006/03/13

I'm afraid they won't Sibernator.

It's funny how we complaint. I mean come on what did you think the removeable harddrive was for. You really thought that MS was going to leave it the way it is 20 gb. Lets say you get a 100gb hdd with a new system and MS will replace your old one for people who brought it early like me. Then they come out with a 200gb Should the 100GB be replaced also. Come on it needs to stop because not even Sony will do such a thing. If people was so worried about the system you should have gotten a year warranty if possible. I got a year with Gamestop and if the rumors of a new 100GB is true. OH look my system broke have to return it.
Written by optaviusx on 2006/03/13

This sorta thing is standard if they don't do the bigger hard drive thing now they will sooner or later if the bigger hdd doesn't get announced before E3 then the announcement will be during E3. Also its a given this will happen this ONE of few consequences for early adopters. People that get things later always get better deals (commen sense) A bigger hdd with the premium console only makes sense. Not sure when they'll do it, but they WILL be doing it at one point or another. It's practically a guarantee.
Written by 17th colossus (9) on 2006/03/13

i´d personally rape bills ass if he won´t trade in my 20 gig premium pack hdd.
Written by Ric hard (21) on 2006/03/13

The E3 sounds reasonable. It give them something to talk about. Also puts Sony in more deep water With the PS3
Written by hell yea (1) on 2006/03/13

hell yea i cant wait to spend 500$ on a 100GB harddrive. way to go MS. 20gbhd 100$ 5 times more memeory 500$:)
Written by grandmasterlee (1) on 2006/03/13

it will obviously cost more, and no one will complain.
Written by josh (4) on 2006/03/14

Read the respectable news sources this has been proven to be BUNK.. Microsoft has no intention of offering 100 gig HD anytime soon from there lips..

Written by Rommstein (1) on 2006/03/15

So what if they offer a bigger HD, u can never have too much of them things, we'll keep the other as backup and get swaping, it'll be easier than with a PC! (and I keep upgrading that too). Truth is you can buy today better computer kit (bigger HD, faster graphics chip) for the same money than you could a couple of months ago, still you don't ask dell/hp/gateway/whateveryourpcis to upgrade it for free...
Written by kidkit on 2006/03/17

If they did introduce a larger hard drive there is no good way yet to move content from one to another.... It's not in their best interests unless they plan to make the 360 a pvr which i don't see anytime soon. They'd rather have your 360 act as a HD-TV reciever that is networked to a WMC pc acting as the pvr....

This could open the door to 20 - 30 dollar games on the arcade though up to 1 gig in size, that would be pretty badass :)
