Looking at the awesome Xbox 360 games releasing during the same time period, it's hard for me to get excited for the PS3 launch. I'll probably hold out until MGS4 and FF13 both release

Hummmm Lets See How Many Of Those Games Will Come Out In November...
Written by t.m.b (47) on 2006/05/31

i dont know if you sony characters understand this or not but the ps3 launch titles wont be going up agianst the first released xbox360 line up titles it's going to be going up agianst the newly polished uptodate xbox360 titles wich just blows anything that the ps3 is even thinking of releasing during their launch. so your putting the ps3 games up agianst the wrong thing. it's like you think that the 360 just stoped to wait up for the ps3 so that the public could judge the launch titles from both systems :/ what a joke you you fools accually thought that, that was supposed to happen.

Still waiting for the way better 360 games. Besides Gears of War, there isn't a whole lot to write home about in the immediate future.

DID you see Lost Planet?
Written by phalanges (5) on 2006/06/02

I agree with what OptX said. The only thing in the near future for the 360 I see is GoW. All other games are either multisystem or wont be release until 2007. The PS3 lauch does look nice with Lair, Motorstorm, and Warhark. Hope they actually release them for launch.
Written by Blah (119) on 2006/06/03

Wow this launch lineup looks a lot better than 360's launch lineup. But this fall all the systems will have awesome games, im looking forward to Rainbow Six Vegas =P
Written by EDWIN SNAKE (1) on 2006/06/03

I agree with phalanges and Optx as well the PS3 launch games look way better than the current gen-360 games, com on guys you know what i mean,Gun,tony hawk, king kong burnout, far cry,Need for speed most wanted, tomb raider, godfather, and even FF XI give me break that game came out 3 years ago. Diffrence in PS3 games and 360 games are that the PS3's are NEXT-GEN GAMES. try explaning the current gen games on 360 before taking on the PS3 NEWB.
Written by ED 360 sucks PS3 rules Sanke (1) on 2006/06/03

PS3 will win this netx gen war hands down. they have the fans support than any other game system thats a fact, 101million PS2s sold and about 22million sold for the Xbox. Thats a huge diffrence. And games sony has the most frist party developers on there system then any one else.PlUS this is the frist time sony has online right the frist time and the frist time sony has media right as well and tech. It looks like sony will do it again. there is no way that the PS3 will sell under 22 mill in 5 years, you must remember that ist will evetally lower in price.
Written by Jagosix (75) on 2006/06/15

Hello. t.m.b. You hit the nail on the head with that 1. If the only games that you guys can come up with for the x360 is Gears of War, then i truly feel sorry for you. So. I'm going to educate you a little.

Brothers in Arms:Hells Highway, Enchanted Arms, F.E.A.R., Forza 2, StrangleHold, Lost Planet, Madden 07, Mass Effect, Ninety-Nine Nights, Prey, Saint's Row, ShadowRun, SONIC, TimeShift, RainBow6:Vegas, SplinterCell:Doulble Agent, Too Human, Viva Pinata, WWE:SmackDown vs. Raw, & HALO 3. This isn't all of them.

Sony will have their work cut out for them. Now if you compare the PS3 list against The list I Just posted, It seems to me that the X360 has a better selection this holiday season.

Written by Figboy (71) on 2006/06/15

Jagosix, most of the games you listed are multiplatform(including PC). So the proper list would be:

Enchanted Arms

Forza 2

Lost Planet

Mass Effect

99 Nights

Saints Row,

Timeshift

Too Human

Viva Pinata

Halo 3.

the rest are coming out for the PS3 or PC. Also, most of the 360 exclusives on that list aren't coming out until either late this year, or next year. the 360 has it's work cut out for it trying to convince the masses that they still want one after the PS3 launches.

i was at E3 this year, i got to play the PS3 (Untold Legends, Warhawk, Resistence, and my favorite, Heavenly Sword), and they all kicked ass. Lost Planet looked amazing for the 360, Crackdown was so much fun as to be criminal, and while Too Human looked great, it suffered from horrible, horrible framerate issues( but really, that sort of thing can be fixed up before the title ships). the competition is going to be fierce this time around, but i still think Sony is going to come out on top again, as it just has more. and the limitations of DVD9 will make themselves apparrent sooner rather than later, if you take the thoughts of various game developers as truth. they're embracing Blu Ray, and people from Marc Rein to Ubisoft claim that Blu Ray is a perfect standard for games

with a DVD9, you have two choices: Sacrifice content for graphics (which is why Project Gotham Racing 3 had less content, but looked great), or Sacrifice graphics for content. The FFXIII team are estatic that because of Blu Ray, the game is able to look the way it does in the real time segments of the trailer(everything but the exterior train sequences are real time on the PS3). so basically, not only will PS3 games be on par with 360 games (and in some instances surpass them), due to the larger capacity of Blu Ray, the games will have more content (and it won't have to be downloaded and stored later, as could be the case with a 360 game). would you much rather download 30 gigs of additional content (which, depending on the speed of your internet connection could take days), or have that 30 gigs of content on the disc already for your enjoyment? Microsoft has a great system *now*, sure, but they seriously handicapped themselves in the long run. at least that's how it looks to me.
Written by Jagosix (75) on 2006/06/16

Hello. I also know that some of those games are coming out for the PS3 & PC. But do you realise when Mom & Pops (also Men & Women)are in the store shopping for their kid(s) or themselves & they see the exact same game on display on both systems & can't really tell the difference between them, from that point What do you think will be the deciding factor in purchasing the system? The price & availability of the console. M$ will have more than enough in stock to handle this holiday season. Sony on the other hand will have shortages this year, just as M$ did last year. So people will go for what they can obtain @ that moment. Also don't think that there won't be any defective units (you might even get 1). That too is also a factor.

Now please don't get me started with the DVD9/BluRay issue. Again.. Nintendo (& other companies)have proven a lot of space doesn't make the BEST games.
Written by Figboy (71) on 2006/06/16

i definitely agree that price is ultimately the deciding factor for mom and pop gamer, but, really, console launches for these Next Gen systems aren't aimed at that market. us gamers are the first to know about a new console, we're generally the first to purchase a system come launch. the PS2 sold about 2, 3 million units in it's first year. the additional 90 million units it sold was *after* that time period. after price drops, and more software were available. also, Sony hasn't even *begun* it's marketing push yet. so far, no one but us gamers know what a PS3 and Blu Ray really is. once you start seeing TV Spots on the WB or before the nightly news, mom and pop will know about the system. and if i can judge by what Sony has done in the past, those TV spots will look very, very appetizing, especially if they tout it's Blu Ray movie player capabilities.

as for the shortages, those are expected. each shipment of the PS3 this year will sell out. guaranteed. once those news reports hit, joe average consumer will be like: why is everyone clamoring over themselves to get this item? what it is it? what does it do? and if Tickle Me Elmo has taught us anything, mom and dad consumers are sheep. they will purchase what everyone wants. if there's a huge demand for PS3s, and plenty of 360s on the shelf, they'll probably be thinking: why is this item on the shelf still? does no one want it? it's stupid thinking, but customers really think of things that way. the 360 had that when it launched, but Microsoft failed to capitalize on that heavy demand, short supply angle.

since it's release, the last real high profile title they released was Oblivion. by comparison, the PS2 had Onimusha, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Devil May Cry, Zone of the Enders (with the MGS2 Demo), and a few other must have type titles, *and*, they had shipped a bunch more PS2s to stores. so far, the 360 has only sold a little over 3 million units. if Sony manages to release its targeted 4 million PS3's by years end, Sony would have already caught up with Microsoft. and the Playstation is a stronger brand in the eyes of the mainstream consumer (90 million PS2s sold versus 25 million X Boxs sold), that brand recognition, coupled with the -supply/+demand angle, will drive demand even hire, so when Sony releases their next batch of PS3s (another 2 million by March 2007), those babies will sell out like crazy too, for the people that couldn't get one in 06.
Written by Jagosix (75) on 2006/06/19

Hello. Fig.. Why are you even going back to the PS2? The reason the ps2 is still selling is that most of the old systems (& some new) are; either no longer working, the price is cheap, $150 new(pawnshops sell them for $60 or lower), the price of games are lower & the library of titles are huge.

The sales figures for the x360 is closer to 5mil not 3mil. Now when the PS3 is released, there won't be many titles to choose from. I mean it's good to have a target point to reach.

Ticke me elmo didn't cost me $600 dollars. Once you bought a TME, you didn't have to worry about controllers ($50USD ea), Games ($60-$80USD ea), a HDTV ($600USD - whatever your pocket could afford). Why did you even mentioned a TME? oh yeah the example. Mom & pops might be like sheep to an an extent, but they're not stupid. That's why we have parents, Kids can say what they want, but the final judgement are left to the parents.

Continuing from last post ....

I highly doubt that SOny would reach 4mil units this years end. The reason is simple. Production, Shipping, Defective units on arrival, Damaged units in shipments, Missing units on arrival (people will steal these systems), & the High Price Tag $600USD. M$ has already been through the hardest part of that already. Btw Nintendo will also have to deal with those same issues.

I hope the PS3 & Wii do well. Competition will make us consumers better games. But make no mistake, M$ is no pushover by a large margin. If you look @ their past track record, M$ has dominated every market they've entered. Not one failure. They have the money & resources to last them for many years in the console business.

There is absolutely no question that the Xbox 360 is the system to beat this year, and for several years to come. The Xbox 360 has the largest number of exclusive games this year, and not only that, but the third-party games appearing on both systems are superior on the Xbox 360. For example, Fight Night Round 3 and Sonic the Hedgehog are noticeably better on the Xbox 360, and John Madden Football 2007 and The Darkness are significantly better on the Xbox 360. At the E3 show, Madden 2007 completely destroyed the PS3 version!

One other thing: All of the games that are appearing exclusively on the Xbox 360 such as Gears of War, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Fable 2, Forza 2, Killer Instinct 360, and many others are being published by Microsoft Game Studios as first party games. There are also a lot more third-party games appearing exclusively on the Xbox 360 than the Playstation 3 because Microsoft doesn't charge a licensing fee when a third-party does that--unlike Sony. Capcom's Dead Rising and Lost Planet are examples of this.

Xbox 360 has the largest installed base of systems, and it always will because Playstation and Playstation 2 sold the overwhelming majority of their systems once the price was below $199. The Playstation 3 will NEVER be lower than $199, but the Xbox 360 will. This is the reason why third-party games that are supposedly "exclusive" to the Playstation 3 or "only announced for Playstation 3 at this point in time" will end up on the Xbox 360.

Assassins Creed, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Final Fantasy are all examples of games that will be on the Xbox 360. Heck, Assassins Creed was shown at the Microsoft X05 trade show under the name Project Assassin! The perfect example is Fight Night Round 3...it was originally announced only for the Playstation 3...but it is out NOW for the Xbox 360. The same thing happened with The Darkness that can now be seen on Xbox Live, and Unreal Tournament 2007, which was confirmed as an Xbox 360 game by Midway CEO, David Zucker, at the 2006 E3.

Playstation 3 is only launching with six games, and even the Independent Playstation Magazine compared the PS3 game Resistance FOM to the Xbox 360 game Gears of War in the August issue, and they said, “The Playstation 3 will NOT have the best graphics when it launches, because of second-generation Xbox 360 games like Gears of War.” Xbox 360 will ALWAYS be one generation ahead of PS3, so this will always put PS3 at a disadvantage.

Sony was too greed; they should not have put a low-end Blu-ray drive in the PS3, because it raised the cost of the machine too much. Microsoft designed the Xbox 360 so well that Sony was the one who was trying to play catch-up all along. The original PS3 was not supposed to have a GPU, but Sony was forced to put one in after they saw Microsoft’s revolutionary ATI GPU that took advantage of Unified RAM and Unified Shader technology. As a result, Sony was forced to use low-cost RAM that is not unified and lost cost nVidia Shader technology that is not based on the new Unified shader technology that Windows Vista is; that will be the new PC standard once Windows Vista has been released. Playstation 3 uses all of the RAM and Shader technology that is based on GPU technology that has been released for four years already; it is the same sort of RAM technology that has been used for decades by the Playstation 2, Playstation, Saturn, 3DO, Sega 32X, and other systems even older!

Xbox 360 uses all of the new Unified technology that ATI will release in the form of a graphics card in either the fall of 2006 or early 2007 when Windows Vista is released. If the Blu-ray was taken out of the PS3, the price would drop by $300, which means the Xbox 360 would cost more--because it uses superior technology in regards to hardware.

And one thing I recently learned about Blu-ray is that it doesn’t have any sort of storage advantage over HD-DVD at all! The 15GB vs 25GB stuff that Sony tries to market is nonsense! The reason for this is because Sony doesn’t want to pay licenscing or royalty fees to Microsoft, which is what they would need to do in order to use the new VC-1 compression technology that is currently used by ALL HD-DVD’s. With Blu-ray, EVERY SINGLE blu-ray released so far uses the 10-year old outdated inefficient compression technology called MPEG-2!!! This is the reason why HD-DVD looks noticeably better than Blu-ray!

Here are two other factors about HD-DVD about Blu-ray that I found out about. First, it is absolutely mandatory for all HD-DVD movies to have at least 5.1 high definition sound. Blu-ray discs have no mandatory rules like that; they are like standard DVD’s. In other words, you know how Superman 1 is in 5.1, but Superman 2, 3, and 4 are only in 4.0 Pro Logic. Well, that is how a lot of Blu-ray movies will end up because they only use the same sort of MPEG 2 compression that has been around for ten years!!!

Here is another factor: One 15GB layer of HD-DVD data allows 2 hours of high-quality VC-1 video/audio to be placed on the disc. The current standard for HD-DVD is dual-layer 30GB discs that allow up to 4 hours of video with high definition sound. But with Blu-ray, every single disc released so far, and ever disc scheduled to be released within the next year, uses a single layer 25GB disc that is only capable of storing 2 hours of video/audio technology as a result of the inefficient MPEG-2 technology! This is the reason why EVERY Blu-ray disc released has FEWER BONUS features than standard DVD’s do! The reason for this is because two-hours of space is NOT ENOUGH to place bonus features on the blu-ray disc!

Here is one other advantage for HD-DVD: Hybrid discs with the HD-DVD on one side and the standard DVD on the other. There are already hybrid HD-DVD’s available, and eventually all of them will be hybrid. Sony claims that theoretically this could be done with Blu-ray, but this is simply not true, and if it is, it is a very LONG ways away! The reason for this is because Blu-ray technology is so much more difficult to manufacture! Sony can’t even mass produce dual-layer 50GB Blu-ray discs, which is what they originally wanted the Blu-ray standard to be. But this could not be done because of the large quantity of discs with glitches and defects!

Sony is an arrogant company who deserves to be outsold BIGTIME this generation. The Xbox 360 is the fastest selling system ever if 40 of 41 countries; only Japan has not bought the Xbox 360 like that. The reason for this is because of the Japanese attitude that they shouldn’t buy foreign products. This is the reason why the Japanese are currently suffering through a recession; it prevents their economy from growing and improving. The Playstation 3 will NOT sell well in Japan.

In the recent Famitsu magazine, only 15% of people in Japan said that they were going to buy a Playstation 3, and only 45% said they were even interested in it now that they know how expensive it is. 45% interest is the same level of interest that the Xbox 360 has in Famitsu, ever since the RPG Blue Dragon game—from the creator of Final Fantasy—appeared in the Top 10 Most Wanted Games list in Famitsu. Microsoft did the right thing when they hired that guy and gave him his own studio to publish games exclusively for the Xbox 360!

The only thing that matters, what I want to play. The same goes for everyone else.
Written by Vimto (1) on 2006/07/25

This is the same argument that happend when The XBOX and PS2 first appeared. Look what happend. PS2 sold more and wether you M$ lovers like it or not the PS2 sold more and is a more popular console than the XBOX.

Some of you say the current games on the 360 are better than what the PS3 has to offer at launch. Well I would like to know where and when you played the PS3 games.

I personaly think the PS3 will be better. It may or may not be. I'm not going to get a hard-on over a computer.
Written by The Ram Guy (2) on 2006/07/26

I have noticed that the PS3's Memory was mentioned. 360 peeps please understand the basics of a PS3 before you start talking about how crap it is using your little tech talk. The ps3 uses 2 sets of 256mb ram. One of them runs at 3.2ghz (Much faster that 360's RAM. The other at 700Mhz. The 360 has 512mb of ram, but that is only limited to 700mhz.

As for the Blue-Ray argument. Blue-Ray still needs getting used too. M$ Didn't include the Blue-Ray because they didn't have access to it.

Sony are using new technology. Atleast they are trying to advance consoles.None of us know what a Cell CPU can do nor do we know what the RSX chip can do. All I know is the 360 is trying more to compete with PC's and is not going to win that battle. It runs Call of Duty 2 very poorly.
Written by mike_mgoblue on 2006/07/26

Call of Duty 2 is the best selling Xbox 360 game for a great reason: It is much better than the PC version or any of the other home consoles! The Xbox 360 version of Call of Duty 3 also outperforms the Playstation 3 version!!! The same can be said for other third party games appearing on both systems. For example, Fight Night Round 3 (originally announced as a PS3 exclusive, but NOW available on the Xbox 360) looks noticeable better on the Xbox 360. John Madden Football 2007 and The Darkness look significantly better on the Xbox 360.

Oh, by the way; it was at E3 that I compared those games side-by-side on both systems.

And just so you know, the Xbox 360 uses superior RAM that is unified, unlike the outdated PS3 RAM that is not unified. PS3 uses outdated RAM, just like the Playstation 2, PS1, Sega Saturn, 3DO and many others. Xbox 360 uses future-based RAM that is what the standard for Windows Vista based games will be in two or three years!

Here is a website that does an excellent comparison to prove tha the Xbox 360 outperforms the Playstation 3 as a videogame system: [link removed]

Xbox 360 prove superior here: www.xbox360.ign.com/articles/617/617951p1.html And that is that!
Written by The Ram Guy (2) on 2006/08/10

Mike you must be thick. The PS3 uses XDR Memory. Its not outdated at all you fool. In fact its new technology. It's obviouse you have no idea what your talking about. Go and do some research into what unified actually means.
