In an Interview with the developers of Resistance: FOM, the editors of the Independent Playstation Magazine found out that the original goal of the developers was to have Resistance: FOM running at a frame-rate of 60 frames-per-second, due to its high-paced action. However, the developers made it clear that the final version of Resistance: FOM will only be able to run at a frame-rate of 30 frames-per-second at a resolution of 720p. It is always a very disappointing thing when developers are unable to achieve their original goal for a games frame-rate, because it will almost always have very negative gameplay effects at certain points in the game.
Slower-paced games may not need to run at 60 frames-per-second, as long as they properly use anti-aliasing and v-sync to provide graphic smoothness, but fast-paced games like Resistance: FOM absolutely NEED a high frame-rate, just for gameplay. After reading the interview with the developers of Resistance: FOM and other sources of information, I am no longer looking forward to it, and neither are my friends.
Bottom Line: Resistance: FOM is a copy off of Call of Duty 2, but when you consider that a first-generation Xbox 360 game is able to achieve its target frame-rate, but first-generation PS3 games can't, it is yet another disappointment for the PS3.
Plus, the Independent Playstation Magazine showed Resistance: FOM in a side-by-side comparison with Gears of War on the Xbox 360, and they specificially said, "Thanks to second-generation Xbox 360 games like Gears of War, the Playstation 3 will NOT have the best graphics when it launches."
I'm going to spend my money on Gears of War, because it is a slower paced game that uses strategy in combination with stealth and action. Gears of War achieved the frame-rate that developers originally targeted when the game was announced, and the level of detail displayed is absolutely amazing, due to the fact that the Xbox 360 can display 500,000,000 polygons per second, while the Playstation 3 can only display 275,000,000. When I want a fast paced game, I will stick with Call of Duty 2, because it achieved its target of 60 frames-per-second. Resistance: FOM just plain fell short, just like so many other Playstation 3 games.

as if i wasn't pumped enough for this game. it's definitely going to be one of the first titles i pick up next to Warhawk, Untold Legends, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and Rainbow Six: Vegas.
dude, mike, let it go. you've been trolling 1up.com also. it's not working.

How embarrassing for the PS3, that CELL Processor sure is making a difference. Never mind, I'm sure it'll at least have 'Reaalll Time weapon Changing'!!!

Well its clearly going to take time to get a handle on the ps3 hardware given how challenging it is to program for, but its obvious that resistance will not be some genre defining title. It'll likely be the ps3's cod 2 at launch no more no less. Heavenly Sword is going to be the first big ps3 game. They are surely capable of far superior graphics than what is on display in resistance at a much higher framerate if they wanted. It'll just take time before we hit that point.

"It'll likely be the ps3's cod 2 at launch no more no less. "That's what 360 fanboys would like to think. Resistance will no doubt be a true next-gen shooter. I may have doubts about the actual gameplay, but as far as visuals and physics go, it's already there.
Super Duper Moron, what a fitting name.

uhh people..since when did call of duty 2 have aliens? "OMGZ TEH 30 FPSZ, PS3 CANT HANDLE IT CUZ 1 GAME CANT" Full Auto 2 is hitting 60 FPS at launch so there your 60 FPS gane on the PS3. Insomniac lowered it to 30 before they even got final hardware so they can add more graphical effect to the game and thats a good thing. Its kinda stupid how people are saying that they dont want this game just because of its frames numbers. Sounds kinda fanboyish to me. I think this game is going to be great, and its made by developers that are very creative and love to vary things. This game won't dissapoint anyone that plays it.

Im not an FPS fan, but, if they manage to get 1080p running that would be impressive, esp. for a first gen game. Im stll not sure about the premise of fighting aliens in post-ww2 era, but, hey, Crysis starts out as a conventional 'war' type game with humans then you end up fighting huge spiderbots! SO, it could work.As for the framerate, yea, 1080p 60 would have been great, but, 1080p 30 should be just fine. When you have crasy detailed environments its nice to see all the detail (provided you have a 1080 set). Who knows, maybe they'll give you a choice of 720p 60 or 1080p 30.

Im smelling fear in this forums...could it be that PS3 launch is near?? -Sounds: "imperial march theme"

I really like the fact that the game is using dolby digital 7.1 in-game audio...that's a first in gaming and I'm eager to hear it. That's an advantage thanks to the cell chip since the audio in the ps3 is cell-based it can actually go up to 12.1 or whatever crazy thing they want (obviously it'll take more resources but you get the idea).

@Smarty PantsThey are TARGETING 720p 30fps.NOT 1080i and CERTAINLY NOT 1080p.EXACLY like Heavenly Sword.1080p60 will be in GT HD - ps2 port of GT4 - a game that can run 1080i on ps2.....
Written by Fruity Loops ZX (249) on 2006/08/29
From the article: Though we saw the game running at 720p, the team is aiming for the title to support 1080p. It sounds like they're shooting for 1080p.
Written by LoL on 2006/08/29
EDITI read GS article - and they said that now its runs 720p and they targeting 1080p.I dont think that they will be capable to optimize engine and finish game in 2 months.1080p is 2 times MORE pixel than 720p.*Maybe* it will be in 1080i 30.
EDITI was 10sec too late :)
I think they will be saing:"Unfortunetly we didn't have enoug time to make it 1080p. It's not a problem with PS3 - it was a lack of time. etc, more of the bullshit...."
Written by Super Duper Moron (4) on 2006/08/29
Careful LOL, you are in dangerous waters here, if you don't have something nice to say you are going to enrage the PS3 Fanboys
Written by hoe (175) on 2006/08/29
PLease, could you post any facts?? NO! because PS3 is capable of 1080p in games. You are the one thats sayin bullshit. I dont freaking care if launch titles dont have 1080p but you will se that in 4 years from now, maybe all titles will come 1080p standard.
Written by LoL on 2006/08/29
@of course 1080p will be standard,of course.Now les all watch together that nice Killzone2 and Motostorm E3 trailer on 2 HDMI 2 1080p TV's in 120 FPS on 1SKU 2TFLOP console...

hmmmm. prehaps this game will be a rental. heavenly sword is looking like the top PS3 launch game to me. I just hope it doesn't get delayed.
Written by Figboy (71) on 2006/08/29
Heavenly Sword has already been delayed to February 2007, so it's not gonna be a launch title (unless at TGS Ninja Theory announces that the game was finished early. highly, highly doubtful).Heavenly Sword is a lot of fun though, and it feels very similar to God of War. the visuals are absolutely stunning also. it'll definitely be one of those must have early titles. from what i've been seeing, the PS3 is shaping up to have more must haves, or pure fun games at launch than practically any console before it.
