The Japanese Nintendo Wii Press conference will be taking place later tonight. We will cull all the news and breaking info for you, and put it all in this news item.Keep refreshing once the conference starts to get the news here first. So far all we have is the New York Times' Seth Schiesel saying the Wii will launch in North and South America for $250 on Nov. 19. The story also reports 25 - 30 Wii games will be available this year, that Wii Sports will be a pack-in title and that virtual console games will cost $5 - $10z. Not confirmed yet so stay tuned.
Iwata talking about the DS, nothing breaking still, the NYT article is being touted as fact, but remember folks, it is still UNCONFIRMED by Nintendo. UPDATE: The article on the $250 price has been PULLED on the NY Times website, most likely becuase an Nintendo embarge was broken. Stay tuned. The Virtual Console prices have been revealed, VC prices: Famicom 500 yen, Super Famicom 800 yen, Nintendo 64 1000 yen, this is about 4.25 6.80, 8.50, USD respectively. You can pay via credit card or a "Wii points card," similar to MS marketplace points. You can use either a credit card or a pre-paid card to use Wii points. Line-up by the end of the year will be up to 60 titles, including the software of Mega drive and the PC engine. After that, 10 titles are added per month. Here it is folks: Launch December 2nd, 2006 for 25,000 Yen. (price is including tax, 212.512751 U.S. dollars). This is pure speculation, but if the unit is 212USD in Japan with tax, we may indeed be looking at a $199 price tag for America.Nintendo will be posting a Japanese press release momentarily and will have full text of Iwata's speech in about an hour. Also, wii.com will go live in Japan in about an hour.In the box:1 piece of Wii1 Wiicon strap1 Nunchuck controller1 AC adaptor1 AV cable1 stand1 support plate (dunno what this is)1 sensor bar1 sensor bar stand2x battery (AA)There will be 16 launch titles with prices ranging from 4800 Yen to 6800 yen. Zelda and Wii Sports will both be present at launch. The Wii sports titles will be on the low end, around $40USD.The Wii sports titles are as follows:- Baseball- Tennis- Golf- Bowling-BoxingFYI: Wii Sports is not a pack-in and IT IS ONE DISC WITH ALL THE ABOVE GAMES ON IT. Hope that helps.Gemaga is reporting 3,800 yen cost for the remote, 1,800 yen for the classic controller, and 1800 yen for the nunchuck attachment. Not bad at all.According to Famitsu, Miyamato has just beaten Japanese tennis pro Sugiyama at Wii Sports Tennis. Considering that the core 360 is $300 and that the Wii uses old (and consequently cheaper) hardware $250 for the system is way too expensive. $150 or $175 sounds more resonable.

I also thought it was going to be released much earlier than the ps3. And it's actually coming out two days after the ps3 in the US. I think Nintendo should start to promote their system outside of the hardcore gaming crowd because as of know the mainstream gamer knows squat about the system (at least this is what I can attest from personal experience). If they don't do an agressive advertisng campaing the system may get lost in all the ps3 news around that date (be them good or bad...there will be lots of coverage for the system).

I wouldn't adivise doing those conversions...the same thing happened with the psp where it was released in Japan for around $200 and people thought it would be that price or even less in the US since prices are usually higher in Japan but in the end we got stuck with a $250 price. But if it turns out to be $200 then it's a more reasonable price.

2nd December is pretty disappointing. I was hoping for an October/November launch. Oh well.
