Peter Moore Interview, 'Wii Is Number 2 Box' >
2006/09/21 9:38:09: Posted by DM
Peter Moore is at it again. Speaking to cNet he calls the Wii a 'number 2 box.' Of course he goes on after that as well.

In a lot of instances, it will be a No. 2 box because it's priced accordingly. The fear I would have is that people will buy the box and only play a few games. I think you'll pull it out at parties. It's fun for a few minutes, but I'm not sure (how long that will last).

No doubt his enthusiasm for the Wii60 combo was significantly dampened after the Wii pricing was annouced. Its not the 'impulse buy' that he was expecting (esp. with add wiimotes) and its almost inline with the Core system pricing.

I think he's right. The Wii's selling point is the controller(which is a gimmick for the most part). After the "newness" and "uniqueness" of the controller wears off it won't be that cool. I can't imagine seriously playing a FPS,fighting game, or racing game even with the Wii-mote. I more want to get a Wii just to play it with friends and to try the controller out with friends. Which is exactly what Nintendo's plan is to sell the system. For "serious gaming" I'll stick with my X360, or maybe get a PS3 down the road...

I totally agree with Peter on this one. Wii wouldn't be fun for long. The only thing about it is the controller and it's not impressive to me. Reminds me of a fisher price toy.

Wait 'till you play guys before passing jugement calls.

FPS "should" rock on the Wii.

Babble;

I have to disagree. I watched some gameplay footage of Metroid Prime on the Wii and was underwhelmed (footage was linked from news4gamers.com). The controls were not tight at all. The demonstrator's crosshair was all over the place and he got "lost" a few times when he got turned around and couldn't see the door he was trying to enter. I would chalk all of that up to inexperience, except that he was obviously very familiar with the game. There were a few points where you could see that they had implemented a feature solely to use the Wii controller. An example is the use of the grappling hook, performed by thrusting the nunchuk attachment forward. The system did not consistently detect the user's motion. On the whole, FPS with the Wii-mote will be a novelty, but, at least based on the gameplay footage, I expect frustration will set in long before the end of the single player game. In multiplayer, it would be a disaster.

Oncnawan....I agree with you 100%. Pee-Wii is a POS gimmick toy. I refuse to allow my son buy that crap. Nintendo crappy products are not allowed in my house.
