Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Square Enix senior VP Michihiro Sasaki, while discussing his company's plans to support Sony's new console, said this:"We don't want the PlayStation 3 to be the overwhelming loser, so we want to support them," he said. "But we don't want them to be the overwhelming winner either, so we can't support them too much."Now, although this makes some sense, we do think it was indeed taken out of context. Then again, Sony is cetainly not winning over many hearts and minds just yet.

The 360 is suppose to get an ff13 title no questions about it, but it'd be nice if they finally got around to announcing the damn thing because its getting really annoying wondering if Square ended up changing their mind or if talks soured.. etc etc etc.
I'm guessing talks didn't sour with this guy saying what he said.
By saying they don't want them to be overwhelming winner or loser they are CLEARLY talking about their big titles. Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest you name it.I heard something very suspicious regarding Dragon Quest awhile back and I never mentioned it because it sounded too far fetched, but maybe we'll find out eventually.

I would expect to hear that announcement this week at X06. MS said they had 5 major titles to announce this week at X06. I fully expect to hear about the new Ninja Gaiden 2 as well as something from Square above and beyond what they already have done.

optaviusx: Obviously you are talking with your heart :D, unless you have some "inside" info.Well, many people cried out when SONY showed selfconfidence, but all this Square Enix Supra-Master attitude is pure crap. SONY is building a pretty solid lineup of AAA titles. FF13 and Dragon Quest will need to perform against White Knight Stories and perhaps others RPGs SONY hasnt uncovered yet. None is overlooking Square Enix influence but even losing FF13 and Dragon quest exclusivity (as GTA4), making that titles neutral in the console war, SONY will have an extensive library to give a good fight.

square is supporting all companys well even with quality titles.. project sylf will prolly be a killer app too...................

Yeah I want Project Sylpheed!!!!!!!

i just hope FFXIII comes to the xbox 360, eh...doesn't matter to think about it, I'm getting the PS3 too. White Knight looks really cool, the battle system looks different and Project Sylpheed looks promising.

i kinda think the same way. i dont want sony to completely lose because that would mean the end of sony. i do want them to get their ass handed to them by nintendo or MS so they will think a little differently before relying solely on graphic power.
Written by Sky (360) on 2006/09/26
i think sony will keep FF numbered series and Kingdom hearts... wii will get quality spin offs and new IPs will be tested on the 360...... LIKE PROJECT SYLPHEED!!!!!!!!sylpheed>> gears of war...............(im kidding)
Written by optaviusx on 2006/09/26
Oh rasta I definitely have inside info :)The 360 last I heard from a source that has never been wrong is GUARANTEED to get a spin off from the fabula nova crystallis thing square is doing. The whole "new tale of the crystal" or whatever its called in proper english is a multi-platform rpg plan square has come up with to give top quality rpgs to multiple consoles while not being obligated to do ports or develop the same game on multiple platforms. Each can get their own game. Project Slypheed is rubbish and square knows it. Even if square were to not support the 360 I'd be more than satisfied with Mistwalker's rpgs which look incredible, but it never hurts to want more goodness and square enix support (serious support) is more goodness :)
Its so nobody feels cheated. They create a sort of mythology or religion so to speak that has to be consistent with any game in the fubula nova crystallis universe and from there craft TOTALLY new characters, plots, the planet doesn't even need to be the same.

RE: Optaviusx,I have heard similar things for a very long time saying that the Xbox 360 would eventually receive "at least one Final Fantasy game," and a Dragon Quest game. The problem with those games is that Square Enix has a terrible reputation for taking a very long time to develop those games. I have never seen a game like that avoid a major delay. The fact that Square Enix currently says that Final Fantasy XIII is scheduled for a Japanese release date of "sometime in 2008" makes me think we won't see it in North American until sometime in 2009! Regardless of whether or not those games see a release on the Xbox 360 or not, that is a long time to wait.
Hopefully, a new version of a Final Fantasy game is being made that has not been shown yet. A new game like that may see an earlier release date. I guess we will learn more over the next couple of days at the X06 show. I think that is why so many people are now starting to look at the games like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. Next-Generation rated the Top 20 games of the Tokyo Game Show, but there was no #2 game...instead, Next-Generation said that there were "Co-#1 Games"...and the games they listed as #1 were Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.
I am very excited that Blue Dragon will see a release this year. I truly do hope that those two awesome RPG's along with the RPG games from Namco that appeared in Next-Generations Top 20 will cause the Xbox 360 to become really popular in Japan; that way, Square Enix will be motivated to put more of their big-name games on the Xbox 360 in Japan. Microsoft always stresses that they want third-party game companies to develop new games rather than sequels; but, from a business point of view, it really does seem like it is a great idea to make absolutely certain that you will have a Dragon Quest game! Final Fantasy doesn't hurt either! Thankfully, it looks like we will be saying the same thing about Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey at some point in the future!

Of course Square isnt going to support the PS as much as it used to. They'd be idiots if they dont. They see that now each console next-gen is going to have its own fanbase and whats good about that is that the fanbases arent going to be small. Which means they can rake in a lot of money without having to choose sides, like with the PS2 they made a lot of money due to my guess of probably 75% of the Ps2 fanbase are RPG fans. Next-gen is a whole different story. Hopefully they'll announce KH3 soon, and maybe that will be multiplatform ;) But to tell you the truth, i think KH3 doesnt look like a game that would go with a PS3 or 360...its too Disney for those consoles. I could see it going on wii.

lol to blah: and yet the Kingdom Hearts series originated on the Playstation 2. but a KH3 wouldn't "go with a PS3?" lol.the people buying Kingdom Hearts weren't all 8 years old. a surprising number of the 3 million units sold just in North America were in the 18 and over range. the sequel has sold 1 million so far in North America. it's a premier franchise for Playstation, and believe me, it will sell on the PS3. the 360? not so sure, but i imagine there would be an audience for it there.fans of the series would probably kill to see a Kingdom Hearts with visuals on par with it's CG cutscenes. that's something the Wii wouldn't be able to do, but i'm pretty positive that the Wii will get a Kingdom Hearts game (either a port of 1 and 2, or a side story like the GBA Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories).

Well the PS3 is a 600 dollar system. Its now a console aimed at hardcore entertainment hub people that want the latest technology, and games like KH3 aren't exactly for the hardcore gamer. Trust me, KH is one of my favorite games of all time and id love to see it be on a PS3 with graphics and gameplay that are 5x better than the PS2 games. But seeing as how Square is looking more like a multi-platform developer and that the Wii might get a decent install base next-gen that is definately full of children that would love games like this. So from a business point of view, id say KH3 would rake in more money for Square if they put it on the Wii. But if Square cares about the fans and wants the best results gamewise out of their game, they should release it on the PS3, 360, or even both.
Written by blah on 2006/09/26
Yeah there were a lot of older people that bought this game and played it, but since now those older people would most likely have a PS3/360 and not a Wii. Younger people would definately have a Wii, and a majority of KH fans are kids in middle school and high school. So I now think Square as an option of putting the game on either the PS3 or the Wii. They could suprise us and bring it on the 360 so it can gain popularity in Japan.

Blah,I agree with you: If a company like Square Enix would simply release games like Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest for the Xbox 360 in Japan, then regardless of what the Xbox 360 has done so far in terms of sales, the sales would dramatically increase when those games were announced and released.Thankfully, Microsoft has Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. Those games will generate a LOT of sales in Japan. Some people have said that each of those games will generate over one-million Xbox 360 systems sold in Japan. The way Microsoft is aggressively pricing the Xbox 360 Core system, now that it will finally be launched in Japan as part of the "relaunch," the Xbox 360 package deals are amazing, and the system will almost certainly sell well once Blue Dragon is released.

I'd buy a Nintendo Wii over a PS3 any day of the week. The PS3 $600 price tag is a real shocker. If the rumours are indeed true (which I say to the affirmative) about a FFVII remake for the PS3, then I'm saving pocket change NOW for the PS3. The FFVII fan monkees will come out in droves to buy a PS3. ;)A Castlevania Symphony of the Night remake for the PS3 would rank sweeter than sweet.A Final Fantasy VII remake for the PS3 could possibly be the best videogame of all time.As a gamer who has always hated the cartoony 3D graphics of the Gamecube, can you imagine a Square-Enix remake of The Legend of Zelda or Zelda A Link to the Past for the PS3? One can only dream!
