Halo Movie Loses It's Studios >
2006/10/20 7:19:44: Posted by vividbreeze
Universal and Fox agreed to co-finance the Halo movie a couple of months back, but now it seems like it's "curtains" for both of their support. Rumors say it was because the film has exceeded it's max budget of $200 million somehow. Who would actually want to back out of creating such an awesome and epic movie beats me, for now click read more for more info.

Thank god. One less shitty movie out there.

It's actually good that FOX backed out, I didn't want to see another "Alien vs Predator" POS... The Halo movie will still get made. The director they chose is very talented.

terrible news. maybe they should get Warner Bros. they shelled out 200+ million for Superman...

sharod; actually, the director they hired was one of the issues in cancelling the deal. His only experience was with animated short films; Halo was gonna be a $200+ million production; they would not take the chance with someone with no experience.

ouch! i was looking forward to seeing that. oh well, hopefully another studio picks it up. if all else fails they could make a cg style movie.
Written by LiK on 2006/10/20

steve, yea, juss get the same guys who made the halo wars trailer and make a movie out of that.

Happy Madison Productions!!

(sarcasm--for those of who don't recognize it)

well its speculation that the director was a factor.

the movie will still come out and i believe it will be great. bungie are being very protective of how this movie is made and i believe that the studios tried to change too much of the original vision. i dont care who pays for it, i just want to see it.

with the talent behind this movie, i cant wait to see how good it is. having a nobody director can be a benefit when you think about it. he knows he has something to prove and is not hung up on directing styles from past films, he knows this is how he will always be remembered so he will do his best. apposed to a director that has many good titles under their belt and doesnt feel that they have much to prove.

Fruity Loops ZX have you seen the director's work? That guys is very talented, even though most of his work is short CG films mixed with real time footage. The guy is a good story teller, just watch the short about the aliens in South Africa. The producers/bungie,etc... picked him because they liked his work and thought he would be the perfect choice. Doesn't matter if he's ever directed a 100+ million dollar film. Check out some of the articles and interviews about him.

sharod, it doesnt matter. because its a microsoft game movie fruity the loopy will of course slam it.

its in the nature of the sony zombie: to flock to sony like sheep and slam what they dont understand.

dont hate fruity the loopy because of this, pitty his poor soul
Written by Fruity Loops ZX (249) on 2006/10/20

No I havent seen his work.

And, i do think if you are going to give someone $200+ million (more than the GDP of some countries) to direct a movie; they should have at least some experience with that type of budget.

And, this is no movie to be taking artsy-fartsy risks; needs to return money given the huge budget and the lopsided contract that MS was going to force the studios to sign.
Written by sharod on 2006/10/20

Yeah ok... cause directors who have experience with big budgets ALWAYS make great films, especially videogame to film movies... Hahaha that was funny Fruity Loops ZX!
Written by Fruity Loops ZX (249) on 2006/10/20

shorad: i didnt say that, you did. Read my post again, if you still think i said that, then ...
Written by Kenny K on 2006/10/20

fruity the loopy, the thing you dont realize is that the studios already signed on to the movie knowing full well what to expect. however of course hollywood tries change things they know nothing of. i commend bungie and the movie producers for sticking to their guns, it will be a better movie because of this.

also the 200 million wasnt a fact it was speculation on the studios that pulled out.

none of this means anything in the end, the movie will be a success and that is it
Written by Fruity Loops ZX (249) on 2006/10/20

KK, the fact that Universal opted out says a lot; they are aligned with MS (via HD-DVD support).

Who's gonna pick it up now? Especially under the ludacris (lol) conditions that MS is forcing (5 million up front, 10% of profits, complete creative control, and NO financial support). Whats in it for the studio? Maybe, just for fun Sony Pictures or Columbia will make an offer.

The only way this will ever be made now is if MS does what Marvel is doing and opening their own studio. But, they are still bleeding money from xbox so that will never happen.

u guys are funny u think this movie will suck,

if they make it right, it could be beat spiderman and star wars together,,, thought i hate halo !
Written by otoole on 2006/10/20

it seems like bungie and microsoft are steadfast concerning the halo world and all of its rules. if the studios dont want to follow the guidlines, too bad. It is these rules that will make the movie a halo movie, not just a hollywood production.

I am also pleased with the director they selected. It cant be the same as movies like king kong, it needs its own style with its own spin, because its halo.
