Sony Confirms Emmy Win For SixAxis Pad >

	Apparently there has been some confusion over whether or not the SixAxis pad actually won an Emmy. Hydrapinion and other sites are claiming the win is actually for the Dual Shock pad. Well, not wanting to jump on the bash Sony bandwagon without cause, we decided to take the smart route and email our Sony PR representative. Here is what our contact had to say: It was the SIXAXIS. The press release was correct. Well, there you have it folks, the e-mail was short, sweet, and to the point. Congrats again Sony on the Emmy win. Of course, a Sony rep is not the end-all be-all of information, but if the response we got from Sony was incorrect, rest assured, we will be the first to let you know.

I'm the person who wrote the Hydrapinion piece (currently slashdotted) that broke the Emmy rep response stating it was not SIXAXIS that won.

I'd love to know who the Sony PR rep is who is standing by their claims, because she was very specific on the details of what the actual awards were for.

She also pointed out Nintendo won as well (for the 'Nintendo D-pad' was her comment), which I see has now been followed up here as well.

After I read your story I contacted sony myself, and the SCEA rep responded to my comments almost immediatly to confirm the SIXAXIS did win and that the press release was correct. Posting his name seems irrelavent at the moment (unless you happen to know SCEA reps yourself and want to talk to him). If you want feel free to PM me and we can discuss this further.

Why would the dual shock win guys, start thinking with your heads. A 6 year old pad won this year alongside the Nintendo Wii pad? Come on guys, lets think logically. The dual shock would have won years ago, as it was MAYBE considered innovative back then. Now, the dual shock pad offers absolutely NOTHING that other pads dont, therefore it is really not worthy of a technical award called "The Emmy Award for Peripheral Development and Technological Impact of Video Game Controllers|"

Because this is like a 'lifetime achievement' award, given for the influence on controllers that have come since. The Nintendo part of the award was for the Nintendo D-pad, not the Wiimote.

Here is the relevant section of my correspondence with Christine Chin from NATAS that points to the group's reason for giving the awards:

"Sony won for their dual shock analog controller. It was nominated by our internal group and considered along with the Nintendo D-Pad both of which were considered Emmy worthy for the development of the generation of controllers that followed the classic joysticks."

Look fact is there is no way sony can win for sixaxis since it was 'magiaclly announced' a whole 8 months after the unveiling of the Wiimote. Coupled with the fact that it doesnt have the features of the Wiimote, i dont see how on earth it can win anything.

Why do sony go on about their controller whilst at the the same time pretending the wiimote doesnt exist -- and hoping that they will fool the public unto the same conclusion?

they can definitely win for the SIXAXIS, you buy the award. obviously this didn't happen here as sony just did what they do best and spin a gracious award for one of their past accomplishments, to their disappointing new PS3. i think maybe if I was Sony I'd do the same thing.

there are plenty of places, gaming sties, entertainment site, awards, etc., which are in the take in a negative way, where corporations-- MS and Sony-- can "contribute" a nice purse of coin.
