2007/01/25 16:13:32: Posted by DM
It seems that Sony has made a minor price correction for the PS3 in Canada. Now the unit costs $50 dollars more, for a total of $699.99. Both Best Buy and Futureshop have the console listed at the new price, the old list used to be $659.99. What is Sony doing?

I'm no math genius, but that's a $40 difference.

man, sony isn't holding back are they? $700 freakn dollars?!?! Sony is definitely in damage control. Losing money for each unit made...units/software sitting on shelves...their PR is a mess...can't even get the right picture on their PSP site...all I can say is WOW!! Watch out Europe! they might pull a fast one on them too!!

"what is sony doing?"

sony is trying to do not loose even more money that they are lossing per unit.

unfurtunely for sony , not all gamers feel pity for this (sony) problem.

Sony need to start thinking in futher hardware manucfacturing savings and...for gods sake , giving consistent reasons to people spend $659 in a console , when they got the competion selling it for $200. big difference.

This obviously is speaking in a games console perpective , but since sony call a super computer entretainment...things call also be perceived different.

the final decision is yours.

You guys do realise that $700 CDN for the 60 gig model is still less than people in the us are paying?

the 360 has always been more here in a canada than it should have been based on the exchange rate. they always rounded up a little too much for that 'round' number. Bastards :(

I think it is amazing the way that websites jump the gun when one manufacturer raises the price on a website. If I lived in Canada and I wanted one of those systems, here is what I would do if the price was raised at one store: I WOULD GO TO EVERY OTHER STORE that still sells it at the traditional price. Websites are going to often make mistakes in pricing, and that is what Best Buy may have done...we need to avoid paying attention to that kind of thing so publicity isn't wasted on nonsense.

theres not that much of a break from usa prices

$700 can dollars is around 591.500 us dollars

Written by Crazyray87 on 2007/01/25

pfff.. nothing special.. 591 dollars is exactly 456.963 EUR (450 euro) while we have to spend 600 euro's (if not more) for this machine... still 150 euro ($194) more

like... oh make the price 600 dollar.. and in europe 600 euro :S .. You americans are lucky, though i don't know if the salary is higher is the US compared to europe.

Greetings.. some dutch gamer

It's a lot of cash, but if that's where the games you want are, it's worth it. In the states the PS3 has had a pretty slow start, but I'm sure once MGS4, God of War 3, FFXIII, GT5, and all the other PS exclusive games start coming out, things will pick up.

that's weird that they raised the price at all. at least they didn't get shafted like the europeans with the price hike.
