PS3 Firmware 1.54 Available Now >
2007/02/28 2:33:58: Posted by DM
The 1.54 firmware for the PS3 is available now. When you boot up, there will actually be a mandatory update message at the top right of the PS3 screen. The system update option in the system menu will get the update started. Remember, you need your USB controller cable to run all PS3 firmware updates. No word yet on what exactly the update does.

*Update: The Japanese PS3 firmware update page has the details on the upgrade, but without a good translation all we can discern is that the AV-Chat now has a zoom feature. If you can decipher more please comment and we will add it to this post!

*Note: For those of you who need it, this link provides instructions on how to update your PS3 firmware if the console is not connected to the net. Useful to some of you for sure.

Probably security update.

PARADOX has found some exploits thats allows pirated/homebrew software and they are waiting till 23 march to relase it.

It's the same as last "it doesn't do nearly nothing" update from MS in January.

For the time they spend on the ps3 development , i wonder why the console didnt came with the 3.5 v updated.

Hackers are good in the sense that they let the Vendors know what security measures work and what don't work. at firt I didn't but now I hate Homebrews since they fucked up my Halo2 experience. Want to do HomebRew buy XNA application be creative the right way. you have a better chance of make alot more money that way if its good.

Maki- you got a point there,.. for the time they spent on it still ship with lost of issues.. but I guess somethings you can't catch untill you give it to the public to f*ck with.

expect to see more hack-updates, aside from the normal large updates. the ps3 is a very open platform that makes it rather easy to hack.

i think some people are being too negative about this update. the 360 got an update a month ago to optimize the dashboard, the ps3 got one now for updated security, things like this happen. no biggy
