At the end of the recent Shadowrun trailer, 1UP found something very interesting. It seems that MS is planning to launch an Xbox Live Gold type service for PC users, similar to the Gold service us Xbox users have. Of course, the Gold account, which is the one required for Xbox/PC cross platform play, will be pay. How MS is going to get PC users to pay to play games online is truly a mystery to us. Especially since they will be paying to play against Xbox360 pad users, which on the whole, will not be much of a challenge for a good mouse/KB user. Very clever (and greedy) of you MS! The statement at the end of the trailer says:Cross platform play requires Xbox LIVE Gold account and hard drive [on xbox 360], or Games For Windows - LIVE Gold account (on Windows).Definitely keep an eye on this story, folks.

"Very clever (and greedy) of you MS!"Smart on MS, dumb on people who actually pay for that.

Well, intelligent people would already be subscribers of the Xbox Live Gold account for their Xbox 360, which costs only about $4 a month and works for ALL games!

@ UTPwhy would a PC gamer want XBL and pay a fee? please explain
Written by Itaintrite on 2007/03/05
BECAUSE EVERYBODY'S SUPPOSED TO LOVE TEH XBOX360!!!Intelligent people would think twice about spending $50/year for something they might not use everyday. If you do, good for you, I think.
For me, it's not justifiable enough. And it's also rather annoying that some of the big games will be online-only, eliminating the possiblity of playing against and chat with my friends without having to look like an idiot.

Hello Fellow Gamers. So ..$4 a month is sooooo...much money.. never mind the $13+ dollars used to play Wow or FFXI or any other charged games which is more than 3x times what M$ charges to play all of their games on XBL. I know most of you drink (sodas, beer, whine etc.) & some of you smoke (cigarettes, Weed, crack, etc). Also some of you buy books (mags, comics, etc.). Those things add up to way more than $4 a month. Now some PC online games are free. Some are not. SO if you want to play you will pay.

Doesn't Bill have enough money already??

Interesting. This idea has been thrown about before, personally I don't see why PC users would pay to play 360 owners, when they can just play each other for free, I know I wouldn't. However if the 360 gold account works on pc games as well they may have an idea. If not then this idea will probably fail, unless the 360 user base becomes so big, that it allows for you to play a lot of opponents that it’s not worth ignoring, then it may be worth paying. I don’t know however if 360 owners would be happy playing people with a handicapped advantage, unless they are limited in some way. Either way I’m not interested in this title.

go figure idiot fanboys like Itaintrite make this seem so horrible. i agree that most PC gamers wont pay for Windows LIVE and will just stick with the free online to play with other PC users. i dont see how giving the option is a bad thing though, if you dont want to pay it, no one is forcing you to. if you already have a Gold account on the 360 then your all set with the PC as well. If your going to bitch about $4 month then your in the wrong hobby. i swear some people shouldnt be allowed to voice their opinion based on stupidity.

"Intelligent people would think twice about spending $50/year for something they might not use everyday. If you do, good for you, I think."that is with out a douth the most stupid thing ever said on GR, paying is no welcome but come on its nothing its just more than 1 dollar weekly most people throw that away in change every week. on the topic i don't think this is not clever at all by Ms, why would people on pc want to play a game where they could slaughter anyone online, whats the point, mouse will always win.
Written by Kenny K on 2007/03/06
actually it has been proven more then once that a mouse doesnt always win over the controller. ign did a test playing halo:CE on the PC. one player had a (360) controller while the other used a mouse. the player with the controller had a higher killrate and won more games.similar results happened with play tests on shadowrun. both set-ups were pretty even with controller having the slight advantage in closer quarters while players using the mouse had a slight advantage with ranged/sniper shots.
Written by Nemesis IX on 2007/03/06
yeah but that halo people play that like it was the only game ever made, plus i bet you they where using the best controller controller available but against a standard mouse, the Razer would wip anyone in the right hand, i'll standing by the mouse i've yet to be beaten by anyone playing unreal 2004 with a controller.
forget the halo part i typed it before i finished reading your comment.
