It seems the rumors are indeed true, according to Gamedaily. Kotaku has posted a scan from Gameinformer that claims the new Zephyr Xbox is indeed real, and it is no April fool's. Of course, this is a rumor tag for now, since it is April, but we reported this rumor from our own source over a month ago.

as a ps3 fan, no PS3 owner should be making any price comments.

that said, i really hope microsoft doesnt make this the new official standard color for the 360. im done with black consoles and i like the off-white color of the 360, it was kinda like a second DC to me.

i also hope microsoft explains what they plan to do with the 10+ million 360's out there when it comes to HDMI support.
Written by MAKAVELI on 2007/03/20

an HDMI adpator?
Written by Kenny K on 2007/03/20

exactly MAK, i know it's possible and i know i would use it if it were released, so im hoping that they follow through with it.

it's not really THAT big of a deal, but i will be mad if they dont support their current user base.
Written by Nemesis IX on 2007/03/20

maby thats why MS won't give me back my repaired 360.
Written by Sky on 2007/03/20

Kenny thats 479 with no hi def movie player ps3 is a value pack zephr aint its a desparate attempt to match sonys console

"I also hope microsoft explains what they plan to do with the 10+ million 360's out there when it comes to HDMI support."

Especially since MS said HDMI is not important and continued to sell a ton of 360's. Now they hit us w/ this? We'll see, but if another 360 sku is released w/ hdmi and a larger HD, I'll be a bit angry w/ MS.

Written by nock on 2007/03/20

they are dumb for not building an HD-DVD player in...as Sky said, at least the PS3 has that functionality as a scapegoat for its high price.

go ahead and prepare to be angry then...rumors that pop up as often as this one has tend to be true
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/03/20

Hey nock, below me, lol. MS is starting to catch the Sony disease. "Rumble is last gen," now they are going to incorporate it. MS says, "HDMI not necessary" now they are going to incorporate it. Thanks.

It will be interesting how they handle video scaling now that it has to be done completely digitally. The non-hdni 360s only had video out, so they used an analog scaler, which is only 100x easier to do than using a digital.

hey now, VaeVictus...thats not very nice. don't you know its mean to call people names!!!

Cept the big N thus far. The Halo 3 Helmet pack price jump has ruffled a few feathers.
Written by Deihmos on 2007/03/20

If a new console was coming next month don't you think they would have announced something? I doubt the public will ever see this.
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/03/20

MS has the financial capital to do whatever they please. I wouldn't put this past them.
Written by Kenny K on 2007/03/20

Vae, a larger HDD is coming out so that should be expected. as for the HDMI, just because they support it doesnt mean that have changed their stance to how important it is. the same can be seen with 1080p, they believed/still believe that 720p is the resolution of choice. even after offering 1080p support and options, they havent changed their stance on 720p being their preference.

Nock, i would HATE microsoft if they put a HD-DVD in the 360. it would hinder the console more then it would ever help.

i dont agree with all of the changes (welcoming the larger HDD) but that doesnt mean it has to be the end of the world for us existing owners.

it all depends on how microsoft handles it, they better do a good job.
Written by Itaintrite on 2007/03/20

"Nock, i would HATE microsoft if they put a HD-DVD in the 360. it would hinder the console more then it would ever help."

Even if it were for the same price as w/o a HD-DVD? You must be the only one with that opinion.
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/03/20

It's no different than Sony saying that Rumble wasn't important and that it was last gen. I'm just calling it as I see it. MS did the same thing with HDMI. As for the bigger hard drive, I guess I'll choose not to upgrade which means I won't be using their digital distribution service b/c I don't want to pay "around $200.00" for a 120g HDD that will come packaged for $80 more than what I paid for my entire unit.
Written by Kenny K on 2007/03/20

Itaintrite, yes even if it was the same price as w/o the HD-DVED drive. there is no need for it (gaming wise) and i dont want any of the loading/HDD loading issues that would follow.

you forget that i get my game consoles to game on and everything else a FAR distant second.

Vae, im confused. how is putting something down and making excuses for the lack of a feature (rumble) the same as saying that HDMI isnt needed? and what does the bigger HDD have anything to do with their digital distribution? i download things all of the time with my current HDD
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/03/20

HDMI not important

Rumble not important

Both companies have since changed their stance. That's pretty cut and dry.
Written by Kenny K on 2007/03/20

well actually their "official" response towards HDMI has been that they would address it 'when it was needed'.

i see where you find the relation and agree, but i guess to me sony is in the wrong here for putting down rumble and making excuses why it's not there. microsoft just stated that they didnt have any HDMI support planned, they didnt call it last gen, or make an excuse why it's not in it. to me they are entirely different.
Written by Unbiased Technology Professor on 2007/03/20

The HD-DVD is not built into it. In fact, the word on the street says that this will be called "The Elite" version, and it will only be sold in limited quantities.

Sky, I don't think the HDMI thing has anything to do with it at all. Game Informer did comparisons of NBA Street: Homecourt, where both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 versions were running at 1080p resolution, and the Xbox 360 version looked better using Component cables, while the PS3 version used both HDMI and Component cables. Either way, the Xbox 360 version looked better. So, cables are definitely not a major factor--at best, they are a very minor factor.
Written by Sky on 2007/03/20

@ UTP

NBA court is not very impressive looking game and a poor example to make your claim to base your opinion on.... and if HDMI wasent so important MS wouldent have added to to there new SKU...

with that being said theres is a noticable different between a digital signal and an analog.. theres no debate.. theres more bandwidth for deeper colors

the differeces between NBA street on 360 and ps3 isent the fault of the console.. its the game developer.. EA.. i think there the last company u wanna bring up in GFX comparisons
Written by steve_o_3000 on 2007/03/20

This is a cool option for people that won't to take advantage of that stuff. I could use the HDMI output, but I really don't think it's worth buying a whole new 360 for.
Written by NUTTSACK on 2007/03/21

Sky: U always have a negative way to spin anything and everything about the 360. If they come out with HDMi on a new model, so what. The GBA improved into the GBA SP, the DS improved into the DS Lite. Sony redesigned the PS1 and PS2. Apple has done the same thing with the IPOD. Heaven forbid if Microsoft improved on the already great 360. Roh no... Most games will run in 720P so HDMI is not even required unless U want 1080P movie or game playback on an HDTV that doesnt support 1080P through VGA or Component. I'm not mad at Microsoft for improving thier product. I just hope that price point isn't accurate.

Also I hate to say this but I think Blue-Ray will win the high definition DVD format war. The PS3 has boosted Blue-Ray movie sales. From what I have read 80% of all the movie studio's will support Blue-Ray. HD-DVD may be cheaper, but without a way to get the HD-DVD players into more homes, and without more movie studio support, it's going to be the next betamax. Thats why Microsoft did not include HD-DVD into it's new SKU. They arent trying to fight that battle with Sony. Thats Toshiba's war...
Written by arthur56k on 2007/03/21

when sony comes out with a bigger HDD, how many sony fans will be complaining, beleive me, sky vaevictus, and all the others will say its a great addition, hypocrites
Written by VaeVictus on 2007/03/21

Watch who you are calling out arthur. I made my point clearly. If Sony were to come out w/ another sku with BETTER features for just a little bit more money I'd be equally upset. Lay off of the name calling son.
Written by - The G- on 2007/03/21

When Sony redesigned the PS1 and PS2 they did so very late into the console lifespan. PS1 redesign did not come out until 6 YEARS after the launch in Japan, and the ps2 slim case design did not come out unto 4 YEARS after the original. This is nowhere near the same as what Ms is doing right now. Also the PS1 redesign did not add any new features to the products, except for making it more appealing aesthetically (eg making it smaller) , and the slimline ps2 only added the network adapter, something which can be found in stores and on ebay for incredibly cheap

Furthermore, Even though Nintendo made the Ds lite redesign, Sony did not go and follow them and redesign the psp immediately, there is still no psp redesign in the market. Therofr eif Sony fans make a deal out of this they are not being hypocrites, because this is not the same as what Sony has done.

Also, comparisons of a portable music player and a games console is not valid. The market of both products is different and therefore the disposable income that people are willing to spend on such products and the levels/reason they upgrade are different.

Because Apple does it does not mean everyone in every other market should.

The real problem with this upgrade is the fact that

1. There is still no wifi included. The wifi is charged at $99 a ridiculous price

2. The Hard drive will cost just under 200 dollars again, a ridiculous price. But Ms will not allow users to use a non proprietary one.

3. For only 20 dollars more you can get a PS3 which has a blu ray player. If you don’t think the player is needed fine, but the value of it is clearly reflected on the price, which is sold at a significant loss.

4. HDMI can not be obtained by current owners. This effectively means that if you want hdmi you can not get it as an accessory. There was a time Sony was planning to do this with their 2 different skus and everyone made a big deal, but now no complaints?

All I want to say is that the more customers allow such ‘upgrades’ to occur the more they allow companies to go further and further. If you think that’s okay no problems with me, you have free will and free choice use it. But later on when a company pushes the “bar” a bit too much, don’t start complaining as if it came out of nowhere.

(what Sony has done) Should read (what Ms has done)

Arthur dont Say such silly things u can go to the store and buy any 2.5 sata hard drive and put it in ur ps3. do ur research before u try do call people out
Written by Tecno_Geek on 2007/03/21

Listen everybody:

Im realy angry at Ms , THEY have a terrible customer service and suport for their consoles.

In 2006 , the original xbox was like death , i wanted to buy a controler or a new one , there was nothing at the shops.

Sony is a great exemple of consoling suport , even after the lauch of the ps2 , the psx was still well suported (games , equipement etc...) , only on 2003 it start to go down , giving more than time to people swicth to the ps2 at a low price.

It will be the same witht he pS3 ...unfortunetely im afraid to say that ms will do the same with the xbox1 with the xbox360 , simply letting their owners down , like this.

The lauch of the black version is one more example how microsoft is shiting of their customers ,either on the software area(windows) and hardware area.

Now , please mr unbisead say what you have to say.

Tecno_Geek: U havn;t gotten your PHIL (Harrision) of Sony's manchowder yet??? Wake up dude. U are seriously stuck on Sonys NUTTS. There has been no price announcement. No release date. These are rumours until an official announcement comes out. Attention Sony fanboys: Stop getting your panties all in a bunch. Everyone acts like once a newly redesigned or more "feature" laden 360 comes out that the other 360 models will be obsolete. R U F*CKING retarded??? Any and all 360 models will still play games. Fly away Sony Sausage Smugglers...

The G: i hear what your saying. However like I said if a new version of the 360 comes out, the old ones will still play games. It's not going to make the old 360's obsolete. My son still plays his GBA if the batteries in his GBA SP need recharging. I know how Sony redesigned both the PS1 and PS2, and how late into the consoles life they did it. If they didnt add new features, their bad... Maybe there was nothing they could add that made sense? Obviously 360 owners want a larger HDD, the new IPTV is coming, more demos, movies on demand, etc... HDMI is mostly relevant to the 1080P resolution since those TV sets that support it have only been out for a year. If MS wants to add it to the 360 what is the problem???

After the hanking scandal of the XBOX LIVE , THE SERVICE IS DEAD IN THE WATER! AHAHAHHAHAH YOU HAVE TO LEARN how to live with it NUTTSucker!!!

Tecno_Geek: Just like the 360's that malfunctioned, the price of XBOX Live, the new SKU, the launch of the PS3, etc... Ya all those things killed the 360 right??? U are the biggest idiot on GR. U have no logic in the way U defend Sony and bash MS. At least people like Vaevictus and Sky make some valid points. I think U took one too many thumps to the skull courtesy of Ken Kuturagi's POLE. Go home Sony Sausage Smuggler.

NUTTSACK, fair enough, its a choice. Just saying I do not think that the upgrade really solves more important issues, and I thought SOny ways of upgrades was fair enough, not so sure about this one.

I hate upgrades to products I already own in general so don't really mind me. :)
Written by NUTTSACK on 2007/03/21

Tecno_Geek: They are called Catch Phrases. I patented them therefore I reserve the right to use them any time I wish. Just like U have the right to smoke Ken Kuturagi's Pole any time U wish.
Written by NUTTSACK on 2007/03/21

The G: I hear ya. I just like choice thats all. I dont have to choose to buy a new 360 if I dont want to. My current 360 without HDMI or 120GB HDD works fine. Maybe thats why I havent bought a PS3 yet. They didnt give me a choice on the PS3. They said here is Blue-Ray. Oh BTW if U want Wifi and media ports U need to buy the Premium for 600 dollars. If U want the scaled down version without the option of upgrading to WIFi or media reading ports and a smaller HDD pay 500 dollars. Might as well just have sold the 600 dollar version if U were going to remove "features" that U cant add on later right??? At least the 360 gives U choices. U can start witht he core for $299.00. If U dont want to play online or care about wireless controllers or backwards compatability U just buy a memory card and your good to go. Everything else including XBOX Live is optional. The pricing sucks A$$ but at least U can choose what U want or dont want...
