IGN Confirms Halo DS Is A Real Game >
2007/06/17 1:47:13: Posted by DM
Matt from IGN posted a while back that he played a game called Halo on the Nintendo DS. Mostly everyone brushed it off as a rumor/silly comment. It was all but forgotten until today. During the IGN Wii-k in review podcast, Matt had this to say about Halo DS:

“It’s a real game… we’re going to lay down some ownage next week or soon afterward by showing you guys that it is a real game.“

I guess that means next week we will get the scoop on how an MS game ended up on a Nintendo system. Could this be the beginning of a beautiful friendship? Wii60 anyone?

I read abou this in an English mag about a year ago and also they then stated the project was cancelled about about 60% into it and then they said it wasn't cancelled but it was posponed. maby this is legit, thats another 10 million DS's sold right there.

MS must think sony are thre biggest rivals otherewise this would of come out on the psp. Masterchief controlled with a stylus like metriod prime: Hunters i hope. Mario Kart might just come out of my top played DS game.

lol halo on the ds? I'll pass

couple of things...

1 - Halo on the DS will be completely different than what people are expecting

2 - How would this complete the wii60? You have to have DS to play this game not the wii..i understand its a nintendo product but just because people may buy a DS to play this doesn't mean they are going to buy a Wii.

3 - This site seems very slanted towards 360..

Microsoft could make a hell of a lot more money if they stuck to software and let others do the hardware the way they made their fortune on the PC. Releasing a MS IP game on the DS is kind of like they are admitting they'll never own the console market, so might as well start thinking about how they can make money from it. A 45 million strong and growing user base is hard to ignore after all.

Another possible point to add to jockss2's, Microsoft may be looking at Halo as a trojan horse that will entice DS owners to buy a 360 as their console, kind of like Apple did with iTunes and hopes to do with Safari. Not a bad idea. There are 8 times as many DS's as their are Wii consoles, so if Halo sells very well for the DS, that's a lot of people who might fall in love with the Halo franchise and want to be able to play the Halo console games, which of course means buying a 360. Not much risk in trying, except it makes Nintendo more money, which makes them a stronger competitor, but they're making lots of money anyway.

Are you kidding mad? The biggest ip MS has is Halo.. thats it. Everything else they have has bombed: viva, kameo, pdz, etc. Out of the console makers, they have the weakest first party IP by a far margin.

they do have the weakest first party but its stronger than PS3 thats a definite...

and second of all i bet Halo fo DS is not made by Bungie, trust me on this, it will not made by bungie but it will be published by Microsoft !

This would really shake things up if it indeed turns out to be true.

This is a very intelligent move for Microsoft, because it will help them make money from the Halo name.

Microsoft said in the past that if they were to release their own handheld system, it would divide their resources in a way that would actually hurt the Xbox 360 in the same way that the PSP actually hurts the PS3, since programmers who could be working on PS3 games are working on PSP games.

The rumor I had heard in the past went something like this:

Rare and Microsoft felt confident they could win the rights to include a Donkey Kong Country game for the Xbox. But Nintendo said they would fight it out in court so long that neither side would be a winner and both sides would lose a lot of money.

So, an unexepected agreement was made where Halo and some of the other Xbox franchises would be released for Nintendo DS, while some of the Nintendo franchises like Donkey Kong Country could be released for the Xbox 360.

This was agreed upon because Microsoft believe the Xbox 360 does not directly compete with the Nintendo DS or the Wii. Nintendo feels that the Wii represents a different style of gameplay, so they would allow Microsoft and Rare to develop a game like Donkey Kong Country for the Xbox 360 with traditional gameplay, while Nintendo would develop a Wii version with a brand-new style of gameplay that only the Wii could provide.

The bottom line is that this would make a lot of money for everyone involved. Halo would obviously be a best-seller on the DS, and Donkey Kong Country would obviously be a best-seller on the Xbox 360.

All of this was a rumor back then, but one of the parts is now confirmed as being correct. I will gladly buy Halo for the Nintendo DS.

I would also be happy to buy some of the Nintendo games on Xbox 360.

UTP Donkey Kong country wouldn't happen on the 360, besides the DS is a handheld. Microsoft don't have a handheld. Maybe thats why they'd propose a release on the DS eh?
