360 VF5 Online Play Confirmed, Game Is Latest Arcade Version >
2007/07/06 11:19:14: Posted by DM
Oh boy, this is going to cause one heck of a stir. According to this press release, Sega has announced that VF5 will feature online Xbox Live play. On top of that, the game is based on the latest arcade game update. We hesitate to say it, but these two points make the Xbox360 version the superior release. The game will also have force feedback and an expanded quest mode.

*Update: Added four screens from the online Xbox360 mode, click the link to view them or click read more to read the press release.

PRESS RELEASE

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (July 6, 2007) – SEGA® Europe, Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. announced today that the highly-anticipated arcade fighting game, Virtua Fighter™ 5 for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, will feature an online versus mode at launch in Autumn 2007. The Xbox 360™ version of Virtua Fighter™ 5 is based on the latest arcade version update and features both analogue-stick and D-pad control, as well as vibration support. The game also includes an improved Quest mode featuring more CPU rivals, items, and emblems for character customisation. The DOJO mode has added features including leaderboards, training move settings, improved throw and escape training, and the option to change your opponent’s position and recovery type. These all work to create a more refined DOJO mode where players can improve their fighting strategy.

Now featuring an online two-player versus mode via Xbox Live®, Virtua Fighter™ 5 will allow players to compete online. Players will also be able to select one of the 17 characters or customise them in Quest mode. Customisation features allow players to modify their characters by selecting from four base costumes and then attaching a wide range of unlockable and earnable items. Players will not only achieve victory by defeating highly-skilled opponents, but also by competing for prizes and earning in-game money which allows them to buy many items at an in-game shop.

“For a lot of very good reasons, Virtua Fighter™ 5 is regarded as the deepest and most revered fighting game available on next generation consoles”, said Gary Knight, European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe. “Bringing Virtua Fighter™ 5 to the Xbox 360™ will not only capture an entirely new audience, but will allow gamers to show their Virtua Fighter™ skills online against friends and foes”.

Created by the renowned development team AM R&D Department #2 out of Japan, Virtua Fighter™ 5 will be released in Autumn 2007. For more information, please visit www.sega-europe.com. For assets please visit www.sega-press.com.

UTP, Take it away... Celebrate that you were right about the online play of VF5.. put it in their(Sony Diehard Fanboys) face.
Written by steve_o_3000 on 2007/07/06

HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!

That is all.
Written by incoming00 on 2007/07/06

before i start eating my own words, i'd like to wait and here it from either MS or Sega. besides, with the recent update announced for Tekken 5 to enable online play and a download to allow MotorStorm in Japan to race online, VF5 for the PS3 could have an update for online play... that is if Sega wants to

UPDATE...

maybe i should read the press release prior to posting!

where's my fork and knife? =(

Why would they waste their time updating the game on PS3 when only 5 people bought it? Sega has moved onto bigger and better things.
Written by arthur56k on 2007/07/06

oh boy, oh boy, UTP told you so, he will say that he knew it was coming, i suspected that they would be foolish to live it out, but this is added incentive to get the 360 version.

this is a great day for UTP, he finally shines on all those whop doubted him, and yes, im trolling
Written by vividbreeze on 2007/07/06

FREAKIN AWESOME! Although I bought the VF5 game for ps3 looks like i will be returning it for the Xboxlive version lol :)
Written by arthur56k on 2007/07/06

so will a lot of individuals who are fans of the series, who own both consoles and are on live
Written by PimpDaddy on 2007/07/06

Wow if Vividbreeze returns his copy only 4 people will own the PS3 version. Seriously though I went to VGChartz and the PS3 version barely sold 200,000. Sega knows it needs to make the 360 version shine so that make that money. 360 owners buy games, so good luck Sega!!!!! For the rest of U I'm gonna be whoopin that A$$ when the game gets released :p

I knew this would happen. Know why the PS3 version doesn't have online? Because of its shitty online service and dev tools. It never had anything to do with lag. I still don't plan on buying this game (DOA pwns it), but it's nice to hear that developers are aware of what gamers want. (cough*MGS4on360*cough)
Written by B1ueBurneR on 2007/07/06

@pimpdaddy do know any other websites that shows how much a game sold?

*@bobby, MGS4 is made by another company (*cough*STFU*cough*) nothing personal I just wanted to say that.

xbots are going to have one of hell of a day with this one.
Written by Rubix42 on 2007/07/06

Sorry bob, but VF5 is a technically superior tournament fighter.

Although DoA is a lot more fun, easier to learn and much more jiggly, so I really don't blame you :)

Pimpdaddy, bob and steve o, registration forms for the WGC are on their way to your email addresses soon. Good job guys. Keep promoting MS world dominance.

Before I comment on anything, I would like everyone to know that while I am speaking, the Top Gun theme song is playing in the background!

I just releived myself of stress and threw the Tags into the water for every bad memory I had where people doubted that the Xbox 360 version of VF5 would include Online Play!

Now that we have received 100% confirmation that the Xbox 360 version of Virtua Fighter 5 will include Online Play, this will be a day long remembered!!!

Response to all those who mentioned my name in such an encouraging way that showed support and friendship: (I will try to write as if I was a politician):

Thank you (applause), Thank you! (Applause)…really, I thank you for your support!

Please be seated so you can listen comfortably in my moment of triumph over the PS3 fanboys (both of them) who previously ran their mouths about this Online feature not being in the Xbox 360 version of the game, even though I had said reliable sources told me it would be.

This truly is the equivalent of a new type of weapon being unleashed on the competition. It is almost a type of Intelligent Anti-Matter weapon, which doesn’t harm true fans of Virtua Fighter who want to play the best version of the game—the Xbox 360 version…but hardheaded PS3 fanboys have been completely destroyed. Sadly, those PS3 fans will still insist on playing a version without all of the cool features included in the Xbox 360 version. Let us put our heads down in a moment of silence to grieve for them. (Megatron style arrogant smile on my face.)

The one remaining form of PS3 fanboy that someone called a roach has even acknowledged world dominance for the Xbox 360 in the area of the Virtua Fighter game series. That makes sense to me. I saw on the news yesterday that Crickets are attempting to communicate with humans when they make noises! So, it is logical to conclude that the final generation of PS3 fanboys—PS3 roaches—make similar noises, albeit with their finger tips on a keyboard. I would like to thank the PS3 roach for acknowledging this absolutely victory for the Xbox 360.

Pay no attention for offers to join a WGC from that idiot whom I will not mention any more by name. That person obviously doesn’t like it that the Xbox 360 version of Virtua Fighter 5 has better graphics, better Artificial Intelligence, and more features—such as controller vibration, expanded quest mode, and Online Play!

With all of those extra features, it seems to me that the Xbox 360 version of the game is TWICE as good as the PS3 version! There are two “V’s” in a "W"…I have an idea!

In an effort to exterminate the PS3 bugboy, and in honor of Virtua Fighter 5 Online Play on the Xbox 360, I think it might be a good idea to separate the men from the boys so that we can play with each other online. I think we should give each other online names. I have already added many of you to my list of Friends on Xbox Live.

I recently asked several people from this website to play cards online. But I would like to take that a step further. I would like to separate the V’s in the W, and I would like to start a group called the VFGC, which stands for Virtua Fighter Game Club. Would you guys be interested in participating in something like that when VF5 is released for the Xbox 360? If so, would you like to trade names now so we can play cards now?

Normally I would keep things professional…but since the few remaining PS3 fanboys were particularly rude to me a couple months ago when they thought VF5 wouldn’t have online play, I will return the favor…with a new type of enthusiasm, particularly because I am being encouraged to do so by my fellow gamers!

Actually I was quite surprised that so many people positively mentioned my name before I even posted anything! It must have made an impact on those people when the rude comments were directed at me. In the past I have thanked all of those online friends of mine, and I would like to do so again. Your support is very much appreciated, and I thank you very much for taking the time to mention my name and offer your moral support.

UTP, i have been reading your posts for a while. They have been very informative. I registered this account specially to show some appreciation. I realy think you're an Unbiased Professor who speaks the truth. And the ps fanboys just hate to face it. I have owned the ps1, ps2 and the slim ps2 and I am not going to by a ps3 until the price drops since i'm a collector. The 360 is a better product with more features and goodies. If the PS fan knew how addictive live is they'd all trade in their crappy systems for a 360. Keep doing what you do professor. I and others appreciate what you do.
