	MS has reported that over 11.6 million units of their Xbox360 console have sold to date. In June, MS said that same number, 11.6 million, had been shipped, not sold, and now apparently, that batch has been used up. This report may be part of Microsoft's contention that a Financial Times report stating that the Wii had overtaken the Xbox360 in total sales is inaccurate. The report stated that through the end of July (or the end of August in Japan), 9 million consumers had purchased Wiis, 8.9 million had bought Xbox 360s and 3.7 million had bought PS3s, putting Nintendo's Wii ahead of the competition. I already knew that the earlier reports of the Wii overtaking the 360 were inaccurate, but it's just a matter of time. who cares though. the wii, even though it's selling like hotcakes to the young and old casual gamers, is still not a nextgen console.

So basically, on average, it takes 3 months for retailers to turn over XBox 360 units they order from Microsoft? That doesn't sound too good.

Oh and Sony counting 5-6 million units shipped to retailers as sold is any better??? LAst time I checked Vgchartz PS3 was at 4.63 million and 360 was at 10.99 million. Keep it real guys. Both Microsoft and Sony have not been selling anywhere near what they thought they would have sold by now. Both consoles are too expensive for the average consumer.

Also Does anyone actually think that 120 million+ different people bought a PS2??? I wonder how many unique owners of PS2 consoles are really out there. Especially considering people are still buying it. I know I owned 2 PS2's and 2 PS1's due to faulty hardware. Not to mention how many people repurchased a PS2 to get the slimline design...

All i know is the Wii is definitely the console champion in terms of sales worldwide. It and the DS have so two-fold over all competition in almost every country around the world since launch. Next year around this time, if the Wii keeps this momentum up or even go bigger, it should be at around 19.5 million consoles sold world wide.

poprocker, nextgen console means a new console replaced to their previous console, another word if wii didnt exist than u can still consider gamecube next generation console, so sush and yes wii surpassed xbox360 and top of that they made profits !! 8.9 in one year vs 2 year 9 million.

i remember i bought 4 ps1 cause i was being stupid about modding and faulty issure before modding, so yea your right !

so another word its probably 60-70 million ps2 !

Yeah the Wii is "next gen" to GameCube, but it doesn't do anything facinating that PS3 and 360 do. I personally think the Wii is an awful console. It's $280 here in Canada, i'd rather get a 360 Pro for another $120. (Or even a core for another 20 bucks)

HFG. M$, keep up the good work. The X360 is doing great. It currently has the Biggest & BEST library of games. It still has the largest number of online users (Bigger than Nintendo & Sony combined). It currently has the highest attach rate per console 6+. When HALO3 comes out it'll probably jump to 8+.

No game this year will outsell HALO3. That's a done deal, so get over it already. We all know HALO3 with sell even more x360. People will buy the system jsut to play the game.

NPD and enterbain give estimates, they dont take all the retailers into consideration, hence missed sales, to each his own, but the bottom line is that both MS and Sony are close to their sales estimates, 5 and 11.6 mil aint that far off in my opinion

I wounder hopw many of those 11.6 million got the 3 lights of death ... STupid M$
