Sony Jumps On Report That 40% Of PS3 Units Fail >
2007/11/08 11:03:36: Posted by DM
Sony Europe has moved fast to dismiss a report that cropped up on Dutch gaming website Gamed.nl that stated the 40GB Playstation 3 suffers from a 40% hardware failure rate. How they came upon this information we have no idea, but it seems like fairly common sense that the report is bogus. The post has since been removed, of course.

"We are very proud of the quality and reliability of PlayStation 3 and are disappointed that such extremely sloppy journalism has resulted in this totally inaccurate story," Sony Europe boss David Reeves said in a statement.

wait till krogan sees this
Written by incoming00 on 2007/11/08

ya, too bad urdnot wont have an leverage in claiming this is one of Sonys LIES! seeing that the reports has been removed and even DM thinks this news was bogus to begin with. how did they come up with a 40% defect rate? at least the faulty rate of the 360 was reported by the repair factories and then later MS themselves!
Written by CianMCL on 2007/11/08

ive heard very few reports one sctually and tat was in a playstation mag where a lad didnt want dust gettin in2 his "precious" and put tape of the air vent on the back.

what a retard

This isn't a surprise.

The 40% Playstation 3 failure rate is similar to what the people of Taiwan and other countries saw. The difference is that in Taiwan, the government literally had to step in and FORCE Sony to replace the defective Playstation 3 systems, because Sony refused to honor the warranty systems.

This reminds me of when Microsoft initially denied the defects of some of the Xbox 360 systems...and look at what ended up happing. It's the SAME THING with the Playstation 3...now that time has passed, the information about the defects associated with the Playstation 3 hardware are revealing themselves more and more.

Urdnot, can you stop talking about Taiwan and how the government stepped in and junk. its all BS! i've searched countless times for that very report and nothing close comes up! and this story is bogus to begin with, yet you come in with your large bag of BS and claim it as being true. did you even ready anything that was posted? or only the "40% defect rate" out of the story of how that this story is false and even the source has been taken down?

Krogan: I took some time to research this Taiwan PS3 failure bit you spin, and I would love a link to something which sheds the same light you like to think you do on the matter. Could you please provide one (or direct me to some sort of valid source?)

Everything I have found has said the following: After the release of the PS3 SOME taiwanese consumers complained of overheating, drive malfunctions, and some power switch malfunctions. Sony was not "forced" by the government, as you like to spin it, but went through a consultation with a consumer based firm on how best to handle the situation. A policy was then set into place to replace any system with a major defect.

Furthermore, I could not find any numbers or percentages on the matter. The only thing I could find was two (2) instances of power switch failure.

ve had a PS3 since launch; it has been turned on since I first hooked it up (only turned off during power failures.) Not once has it overheated, skipped, frozen, or displayed any complications. Everyone I know who has a PS3 has never had any problems. My 360, on the other hand, has been once replaced and constantly skips, lags, and freezes. Most of my friends have gone through 2-3. Don't get me wrong; I love my 360, but these are cold hard facts (Something you severely lack in your biased and largely farcical writings.)

Krogan, your no better than those fools over at Sony Defense Force. Just replace "PS3" with "Xbox 360" and "Xbox360" with "PS3," and your writings are of the exact same nature.
Written by incoming00 on 2007/11/08

hand banana, you mean two whole PS3's have power failures? wow. thats a lot less then more then 33% of all RROD 360's ;)

oh, and one thing you'll notice about urdnot(krogan to many) is that no matter if you prove him wrong, he'll still state his BS as actual concrete fact.

If this were true sony would be scrambling to offer 3 year warranties for everyone like MS did.
Written by CianMCL on 2007/11/08

he says every non sony produced ps3 exclusive will go to 360. i know some have but he say this about ALL OF THEM

guys stop talking to krogans, he's like that, talk a lot crap !

i got tired of that looser !

Response to poprocker:

Sony would NOT be offering a 3-year warranty if this were true. The 100% PROVEN FACT that the PS2 had a very high Defect-Ratio early in its life, combined with the 100% PROVEN FACT that Sony did NOTHING about it, PROVES that Sony would NOT extend a Warranty in the revolutionary way that Microsoft did.

The reason why Sony would NOT do such a thing is because Sony does NOT have the financial resources that Microsoft does. Extending the Warranty to 3-years cost Microsoft $1 BILLION dollars! On the other hand, Sony has already lost close to $4 Billion dollars with the PS3, since its launch...and Sony has been forced to take out financial loans, sell factories, lay-off workers, and sell Stock to the public in order to try and raise capital to spend on their electronic (PS3) division.

And before the PS3 fanboys (who know NOTHING about Accounting) come and say "But Sony made BILLIONS of dollars in 'Revenue' this quarter," I think you need to be aware of the FACT that there is a HUGE difference between "Revenue" and "Net Income" or "Net Loss."

Example:

When you sell 100 items priced at $5 each, then that means you received $500 in Revenue.

However, if you lost $1 on each item due to production costs and operating expenses, then that means you Bottom Line is a $100 Net Loss!...so don't go bragging that you earned $500...you need to go to the poor house, because you LOST $100!

Response to Hand Banana:

My situation with the PS3 is apparently different than yours.

I have had TWO Playstation 3 systems be defective. I bought my first one new, and it stopped working. Then I got a Refurbished one from Sony, and that one stopped working too! Finally they sent me a new one that they said was 100% new and inspected, and that one is working okay--up to this point.

By the way, Hand Banana, thank you for confirming to my friend, incoming00, that I am not just telling lies about the situation with Defective Playstation 3 systems in Taiwan.

And by the way, do you really believe the Sony lie that only a few systems were replaced in Taiwan??? More people than than reported problems to the government, or else they would not have stepped in!

The bottom line is that now that time has passed, we are hearing more and more problems with the Playstation 3 having defects. Obviously Sony is doing their best to make it so the information doesn't spread, but the fact is, the defects are REAL with the PS3...I know from experience.
Written by incoming00 on 2007/11/09

Hand Banana, see what i mean? even with no proof of anything about the government stepping in to take action against Sony and even with your report on what exactly happened, he still claims it as actual fact. and still no links of prove anything you just said urdnot. your words dont mean anything until you start coughing up some proof, and re-wording them isnt proof :P
Written by Hand Banana on 2007/11/09

Incoming00- Yea, I see what you mean. I don't let that stop me from posting accurate information, though. I don't post here often, but after awhile of checking out posts and being amazed at some of the things Krogan says, I just have to take a few minutes away from work to put my two cents in. Don't worry, I'm not under the illusion that Krogan will one day reply, "You right, it is stupid to constantly bash one system and praise another when you [supposedly] do not have any affiliation with either company.

Krogan- You still haven't provided and credible source on this scourge of defective PS3's in Taiwan which are plaguing the area with an onslaught of disatisfied consumers, only able to be quelled by governmental intervention (Just in time to avoid civil war.) [Forgive the drama, but I figured if you can exaggerate at will, why can't I?] I'll happily concede and protest my ignorance if you can. I'm waiting.

And no, if Sony said only 2 PS3's were defective, I wouldn't blindly accept that as truth. The only thing is I never said Sony reported that. I simply stated that is all i could find. I know it is not limited to two instances, but any serious numbers would be easily accessable, as they would be deemed newsworthy. My point being- I could not find any "epidemic" of explosive PS3's lying in wait to torture the people of Taiwan. No more subtle word twists, please.
