PRESS RELEASEAs a result of recent decisions made by Toshiba, Hollywood studios, and retailers, Microsoft plans to withdraw from HD DVD. Xbox will no longer manufacture new HD DVD players for the Xbox 360, but we will continue to provide standard product and warranty support for all Xbox 360 HD DVD Players in the market. As we stated earlier, we do not believe this decision will have any material impact on the Xbox 360 platform or our position in the marketplace. HD DVD is one of the several ways we offer a high definition experience to consumers and we will continue to give consumers the choice to enjoy digital distribution of high definition movies and TV shows directly to their living room, along with playback of the DVD movies they already own.

I feel bad for people that bought this addon. I think we ALL knew that hd-dvd would fail once the ps3 came with a built-in bluray player. ps3 sales alone put over 10 million bluray players out to consumers, not to mention the standalones that have been sold. ....Hd-dvd = Epic Fail!

Making the HD-DVD as an addon for the 360 was absolutly brilliant by Microsoft, you can't blame them for not supporting blu-ray. (Don't get pissed off if you bought one, you knew the risks) I think if Microsoft wanted HD-DVD to win, they would have pumped in millions of dollars and put it in the 360, but they don't care. I also can't see Microsoft making a blu-ray add-on or putting one in the 360, why support Sony against there own Digital Distribution? Lets not forget the 360 is a game console, which has Sony and Nintendo completely owned when it comes to games. It was a huge gamble for Sony to put the blu-ray in the PS3, but it paid off, congratulations Sony, now get some fucking games!

It's not likely that MS will support Blu-Ray anytime soon. One of the main reasons MS backed HD-DVD was because they would collect royalties from the HDi technology used on each disc. Blu-Ray utilizes Java.
