Analysts Say 49 Million US Gamers Buy Used Games > |
2008/04/09 11:31:44: Posted by DM | |
At the game marketing conference this year in San Francisco, OTX, a research firm, was contracted to study the video game resale market. They concluded that over 60% of gamers purchase used and news games, which equates to about 49 million US gamers. Even here at GR, if we need to check out something in an older game that can be purchased used, why would we not save money? It's just common sense.

Throw me in there. I have 6 used 360 games all for under $100.00 for my kids. Plus all the used PS2 games I bought last generation. Some games just arent worth the full price. Better to just wait.

@ PimpdaddyI agree 100%. Some games are not worth the $60 price tag they are asking these days. Sometimes its better to just wait. If you can't wait, sometimes renting helps tide you over till there is a price drop. My only fear is that we don't see some of these console comapnies making it where your game is only registered to the console that its originally played on 1st. Something that was rumoured to be in R&D at Sony.

i hardly buy used games unless its a last resort. if i'm waiting for a price drop, its for a price drop in a new game. but thats just me.

I for one think that most second hand games are over priced, with only $5-$10 off the original price of a half decent title, there are many times that I have walked into EB Games and Game Spot and found that thay have already marked the new copy lower than the used. I agree that there are a lot of games out there that don't warrant the $60 price tag and when my kid is old enough to play I will be searching the used racks.

I buy 95% of my games used. $60 per game gets expensive. When GameStop has a Buy 2, Get 1 Free deal, I take advantage of it. (during Thanksgiving, I picked up three $59.99 games, $54.99 used, additional 10% off with Edge card... I saved roughly $80) I also eBay a good bit.

rent games for me keep it for a week cheap as well. only buy multiplayer games which i'll play a lot. i'm still a student so discount, yeah. In europe anyway most used games are almost the same price as a new game, in gamestop and GAME a new game would be €60 and a used game would be €54.99, i'd prefare to just pay the extra €5 for the new game.
oh yeah i'd buy used ps2 or gamecube games cos it would be very hard to find them new.
