Sony CEO Says Games Should Now Be Top Priority >
2008/06/20 9:12:48: Posted by DM
Sir Howard Stringer, Sony CEO, told shareholders that he believes that the top priority of the company should be restoring the video games and TV divisions to top spots int he market. While he did not specify the way Sony is going to accomplish this, he did say Sony would not buy back shares, despite a strong cash position for Sony right now. Let's hope Stringer is able to convince the PS division to get their butts in gear!

Dudeman: What's fixed???

Sony's priorities. This year's lineup alone proves that....only gonna get better in 2009.

Why 2009 I thought 2008 was the year of the DelayStation

dudeman: Explain what exactly is coming out for the PS3 this year that is fixing Sony's priorities.

By the time the PS3 gets rollin, there will be a new Xbox and Nintendo console. Sony got caught sleeping this generation and they know it. (Killzone 2 and Gran Turismo are perfect examples)

this year may be the year of the playstation, but that doesnt mean that the Wii and 360 can't have better years as well...
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/06/20

incoming00: I think all 3 consoles will have good years. But I am still skeptical about this being a PS3 year... I mean Metal Ger solid sold 1.4 million copies in 4 days. Moved a few hundred thousand bundles. But now what??? I know your not a SDF member, but that's all I have been hearing is that once this game or that game comes out the PS3 will take off. Yet it hasn't taken off. Even with multiple price cuts, free online, Blu-Ray, games, etc...

It's the same thing as the 360. It hasn't taken off despit a price cut, despite a larger library of games, despite a great online service.

The only thing that is selling well are handhelds and the Wii. I think the taste's of casual gamers has either changed or not evolved. Either way the adoption rate of these HD videogames consoles has been real slow. Is it the economy, the slow adoption of HDTV'S and Broadband internet, lack of interest???

well, if thats what their lineup looks like then its currebtly not their priority, they need to better their tools and halp devs get great games fast enough

Keep in mind that Sony is a corporation involved in many fields, not just games. The CEO was simply stating that they would like to pay more attention to the games division. This is not the games division saying they are just now concentrating on games...

Hand Banana: I agree. But Sony's PR has said many confusing/stupid things about the PS3 and what it is. Whether it's a supercomputer, a multimedia device, lately they have been saying it's a videogame console. I think all of us in here are smart enough to know it's always been a videogame console. But I'm not going to lie to you guys and say that Sony's primary focus with the PS3 at the beginning was to get as many HD games into the homes of it's consumers. No it's focus from the time they started designing the thing was to get as many Blu-Ray players in peoples homes. That's the biggest reason I turned sour on the PS3.

If they had really wanted the PS3 to be a videogame console first, they would have excluded Blu-Ray, put in a CPU that was easier to program for, made better SDK's, and launched it on time with a competitive price.

Not saying the 360 is squeaky clean either with it's RROD, supposed disc scratching, no standard HDD, no wifi, no included plau and charge kit, and no HDMI. But at least they have focused on games and thier online service from the start. Look at how many 3rd party developers have brought thier IP's over to the 360 this generation. They know whats up. Look at Xbox Live it's fully integrated into the 360 in every possible way. PSN is still playing catchup. I know it's free but damn, could they have planned thier online gaming service any worse???

I really think Sony lost the focus that they had the past 2 generations that made me a proud PS1 and PS2 owner. So you guys will have to excuse me if I continue to dog the PS3. IMHO they need some more games in different categories, stop trying to out hardcore the 360 with fps, tps, and get the rpg's, racing, fighting, sports, platform, etc games out. Get that damn firmware 2.40 out already. Make sure all consoles have the DS3 controller instead of the gimped 6-axis. Put some damn HD cables and a longer charging cable in the new consoles, and drop the damn price to $299.00 already!!!!!

Oh and I got sh!t to say to you bastards at Microsoft too. Stop raping people on the HDD prices a$$holes. Stop raping people on the wifi adapters. Fix your damn DRM. I'm afraid to pay for anything in case my HDD takes a sh!t. Then I have to repay for everything. F*ck that. Get some more inhouse development studio's. and drop the f*cking price already in the US. You have been on the market for 2.5 years and we have had 1 price drop. Drop the Arcade to $199.00 or just stop selling it. Drop the Pro to $249.00. Drop the Elite to $299.00. Time to cement your lead on the PS3 before they do catch up. Get a bigger install base in Europe, get some more Japanese type games, before Japan wakes up and realizes that they want PS3's.
