E308: More On 360 HDD Game Installs, 30% Decrease Load Time >
2008/07/18 9:04:20: Posted by DM
One of the more anticipated Xbox360 dash update features is the ability to install games to the HDD to decrease load times. Well, according to Gamespot, it will decrease the loading times by up to 30%, wow! This is from Microsoft internal testing, of course, but even a 20% increase is great. A game the size of Devil may Cry 4 took about 10 minutes to install, which is average we suppose.

Oh great. 360 owners get to preinstall b3yond too. Oh well at least it's optional for us :p

I'm mostly looking forward to the quieter Xbox now, as it sounds like a jumbo jet taking off when the disc spins up. I turned on my PS3 for the first time in like 2 months yesterday and had forgotten how friggin' quiet it is. The 360 gets downright obtrusive sometimes, it's so loud!

Pimp, you must be confused...

This isn't a preinstall. You're not forced to do this. Unlike the PS3, where the data HAS to be installed because Blu-Ray's read speed is atrocious, the 360 will still allow you to play the game straight off the disk without any installation.

This "install" is an option for those that choose to do so. It's a FULL install, too, so that you don't have to worry about the disk at all (except to verify the game).

This is a LOT better feature on the Xbox 360 than it is on the Playstation 3 for the following reasons:

(1) On Xbox 360, it is NOT mandatory; it is 100% Optional. You have a CHOICE!

(2) Most Xbox 360 games have ABSOLUTELY NO NEED for this feature, because Xbox 360 loads games so fast--unlike the Playstation 3, which loads games much slower. To be precise, the Xbox 360 transfers data at 16MB per second, compared to only 9MB per second on the Playstation 3.

(3) This is a 100% FULL INSTALL!!! The only reason you will need to keep the game in the tray is because doing so prevents piracy of the software.

(4) Metal Gear Solid 4 shows that Playstation 3 uses very annoying "Installs" throughout the entire game. 5 minutes here, 4 minutes there, 3 minutes here, 2 minutes there, 1 minute here, ect... On the Xbox 360 that won't happen at all!

(5) This means the Xbox 360 literally now has the ability to play a multi-disc Final Fantasy 13, with only ONE DISC that never needs to be swapped, just like the PS3...EXCEPT, the PS3 version would STILL have to deal with those annoying and very time-consuming "Installs," that are throughout out the game. The Xbox 360 wouldn't face that problem.

what's really funny is xbots think all ps3 games have a preinstall. I've only ever played 2 that required this.
Written by incoming00 on 2008/07/18

i would look like to add that the PS3 games in the first year had "optional" installs, and now some games have mandatory. only time will tell if that trend will fall over onto the 360...

and i agree with Urdnot on (4). on the 360 it wont happen at all because MGS4 is PS3 exclusive! lol.........

dudeman: Not all games. Just alot of the newer games released this year. It's not worth crying over...

OH BTW your comment "I've only ever played 2 that required this." shows whats wrong with PS3 owners. They don't buy games.

incoming00:

I can't believe that you would continue to doubt me!

Even after all of my victories, saying that "Reliable sources are saying that "Game-Name" is NOT exclusive to the PS3 and DEFINITELY will be released for Xbox 360."

Remember, I said that about:

* Virtua Fighter 5

* Unreal Tournament 3

* Fatal Inertia 3

* Devil May Cry 4

* Assassins Creed

* Fight Night Round 3

* ... and of course, Final Fantasy 13

Final Fantasy 13 is my "latest" and perhaps my "greatest" victory yet!

Sadly, I won't be saying in the future anymore, because the Playstation 3 has absolutely ZERO remaining high-profile third-party exclusives!

incoming00, you are the sort of guy who reminds me of people who always "say" that they have "faith" in God, but in reality they DO NOT!

Trust me on this one, buddy, Metal Gear Solid 4 will be released on the Xbox 360...it has been in development for over a year. It is in development as we speak (e.g., type).

There will be five differences between the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions:

(1) The Xbox 360 version will have a slightly different subtitle. It will be called: Metal Gear Solid 4: "With a different subtitle."

(2) The Xbox 360 version will NOT have to deal with all of the annoying "Installs" located throughout the PS3 version of the game. The reason for this is because the Xbox 360 loads so much faster.

(3) The Xbox 360 version will be on multiple discs. The discs obviously only take 30 seconds to change once in a great while.

(4) Now that a FULL INSTALL can be done on the Xbox 360 for a game like Metal Gear Solid 4, you won't even need to swap discs!

(5) The Xbox 360 version will have extra missions not found on the Playstation 3 version.

This isn't an install in any way, it's basically just a copy of the ISO footprint on the disk. Intalls are different.
