Microsoft's Halo man himself, Frank O'Connor, stated that the franchise was "big enough at this point that it can stand on its own". He then said "you could do a HaloCon." He then said it would not be as big as ComicCon, but they all start somewhere. He did make it clear no formal planning has been undertaken yet, it certainly does sound promising.
