360 Price Cuts Coming In September It Seems >
2008/08/02 19:43:05: Posted by DM
Apparently the famous ArsTechnica Microsoft mole is at it again. this time they are predicting price cuts for all Xbox360 hardware, come September. The arcade unit will run $199, the Pro (60gb) will run $299, and the Elite will be $399. Good news, if true, but the AT mole is usually dead on. Still, rumor mill for now.

Well this would put serious pressure on Sony. Expecially since the $399.00 80GB PS3 is scheduled to launch at the same time.

Theres already wide spread news of 40GB PS3 shortages as Sony phases it out in the US.

Looks like all the ground Sony was stating to make up on the 360 in the US just get wasted in a matter of weeks...

To all Ps3 owners: I have full time access to another PS3. My PSN Id is:

P1MPDADDYTONYG

thats p1mpdaddytonyg

I guess Pimp or p!mp is a bad word on PSn so I used P1mp

incoming00: I sent you a friend request since you deleted my old tonygregory007 from your friends list.

Also just so everyone knows one of my younger brothers got a PS3 last year and my sister just bought hers a few weeks ago.

My brother got his for games and is still using standard cables instead of HD cables.

My sister got hers for Blu-Ray and I had to show her how to hook it up to her new 42" LG 1080P HDTV.

My sisters internet connection isn't the greatest but DAMN PSN is lsower than when I was using it last year. And why does it take so damn long to install demos and updates??? I downloaded 4 demos and a trailr and the sh!t was so slow I went to bed. Thank goodness it was doen this morning but then I spent another 15 minutes installing demos. Rathcet and Clank looked good but not CGI good like some people were stating. Uncharted ooked good but not Gears of War good. Some of you need to get you fanboy shades cleaned I swear.

You know what did kick a$$ though was Super Stardust. Damn that sh!t is like super crystal clear Asteriods on Steroids and Crack at the same time.

I can't wait till next generation when all games are at 1080P resolution...

BTW I have called a few people out in the past about not owning the PS3 they work so hard to defend. So send me a friend request to: p1mpdaddytonyg

PimpDaddy,

I was at Wal-mart the other day, and I saw that Playstation 3 is no longer the least expensive Blu-ray player on the market.

In fact, Sony even makes a 100% dedicated Blu-ray player that sells for $388, which is 2.5% less expensive than the Playstation 3.

But the BIG difference is the "quality" between the dedicated Blu-ray player and the Playstation 3.

The dedicated Blu-ray player outputs video at 24hz, which is the ideal rate to watch movies at.

The Playstation 3 outputs Blu-ray movie signals at 60hz, which is NOT the ideal rate to watch movies at.

Blu-ray movies look smoother and less choppy when you watch them on the dedicated movie player. So, if your sister wanted a Blu-ray player strictly for movies, she might want to save herself some money and buy the dedicated player, which outputs video in a superior way.
Written by Game_Demon on 2008/08/02

PS3 has 24hz blu-ray playback since patch 1.something (chances are though that your TV hasn't). It still provides the best movie experience for both BR or DVD (it upscales them too).

You want choopy? Try watching a dvd on your 360, it looks like shit.

But I guess at least you can play games on it. /sarcasm
Written by incoming00 on 2008/08/02

Game_Demon is right, the 24hz option has been added to the PS3 firmware. and i'm glad it did and isnt mandatory, because my TV doesnt support 24hz for some reason. it plays movies just fine, but i tried that option and it skipped and lagged. if i had a better tv then at least i can now enjoy my awesome bluray movies at 24hz

this price cut could back fire
Written by blacktiger on 2008/08/03

not really...

no games, no point !

Don't belive PIMP, he has no PSN ID

I added him and he's never online...

So now he has second one ?

what is it millions of PS3 he has >>>?
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/08/03

Like I said before to all the PS3 owners who can actually READ. My new PSN ID is: p1mpdaddytonyg

Thats: P1MPDADDYTONYG

Substitute the "I" in pimp for a "1"

I'm pretty sure the illiterate prick above me will somehow butcher it.

And incoming00 can confirm that I have/had another PSN ID called tonygregory007

Because he used to be on my friends list.

The reason I decided to make a second PSN ID list is for 2 things.

1. My new PSN ID now closely resembers my Xbox Live Gamertag. Which is: PimpDaddyTonyG

2. I wanted to show how easy it is to make multiple PSN ID's because I think both the Xbox Live and PSN numbers arent accurate. As in they don't accurately show how many different PS3 consoles or 360 consoles go online vs consoles that stay offline.

The person who shouldn't be believed is you BlackTiger. Because I have logged in multiple times with my old tonygregory007 account and never had any new friend requests from anyone.

You FAIL.

Which again brings up the point whether you own a PS3. If you did then you would send me a friend request to P1mpDaddyTonyG and we could actually play a game together.

I'm still waiting for Dudeman's friend request too.
Written by blacktiger on 2008/08/03

Oh and don't belive PIMP PSN ID

he said with the other PSN ID, and no he didn't prove by comming online, this guys is trying so hard to show he has PS3... lol

Game_Demon (and incoming00) are correct when they say that one of the PS3 firmware updates (1.8) added a form of output to 24hz, but only with newer HDTV sets that are fully compatible with the technology. The PS3 also doesn't work well with variatons of the 3:2 Reverse Pulldown technology that is included in most HDTV sets...these are major problems that many people have complained about and gotten no answers.

My PS3 has a setting for "automatic" so that it will pick either 24hz or 60hz, but the problem is that it often messes up and gets confused, which causes the screen to stutter. This is probably a variation of the problem that incoming00 had.

Even on my HDTV set that does have compatibility with 24hz, the screen will STILL stutter and have "motion-jutter" durinv fast scenese, even if you manually set it to 24hz. This is a complaint that many people have with the PS3.

Game_Demon:

Xbox 360 upconverts standard DVD movies to 1080p quality, and automatically detects the optimal frequency range to output video at, including 24hz.

When you buy an Xbox 360, you are a LOT better off than buying a Playstation 3!...The PS3 does NOT come with ANY form of High-Defintion cable!

Xbox 360 comes with High-Definition Component cables in the Pro set, and High-Definition HDMI cables in the Elite set.

Playstation 3 ONLY comes with Low-Resolution composite cables...that SUCKS, because it adds money you will need to pay to your bill.

DM: BlackTiger has spammed 3 different articles now witht he same crap about Mirrors Edge. He is degrading your site once again...
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2008/08/03

Watching a standard DVD movie on the Xbox 360 looks BETTER than a Blu-ray on many occasions.

For example, try watching the Digitally Remastered Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Alien movies, Terminators, Jurassic Parks, or other movies on standard DVD on the Xbox 360 so that they are upconverted to 1080p...Then, watch Blu-ray movies, and you will QUICKLY NOTICE that the Blu-ray movies do NOT look as good as the upconverted DVD movies!

The reason the Blu-ray's don't look as good is because they are NOT digitally remastered, and in many cases the 1080p resolution does NOTHING except ADD "Digital Noise" to the movie. In other words, rather than seeing a better looking movie on Blu-ray, you just see a background with more "static fuzz" and you gain the ability to see that it is NOT Arnold Swarzenegger doing the stunts!

That's why the upconverted DVDs look BETTER in SO MANY situations!

PERFECT PROOF: Watch the Tom Cruise move called The Last Samurai on DVD and Blu-ray...then come back and tell me which one looks FAR better...That honor goes to DVD.

That's the sort of disappointing thing that happens when Sony continues to use the same old outdated MPEG-2 technology that standard DVDs use. That's why upconverted DVDs look so similar to Blu-rays...it's just a matter of 1080p vs upcoverted 1080p. Both use MPEG-2. HD-DVD was GREAT because it used the new VC-1 video compression that looked SO MUCH BETTER than MPEG-2.

hey pimpdaddy how do you make a new psn ID. i just bought a ps3 last week and now hooked my playation to online.

so can you please help???
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/08/03

Just click on the sign into PSN Section. I actually had to make a new user profile on the PS3 first because I had logged in with my old PSN account and I couldt see an option to start a sign up for PSN process. Once I deleted my user and recreated it then it gave me the option to sign up.

BTW judging by the fact that your using a new member name and yous spelling and gramar suck. This must be another one of Blacktigers multiple accounts.

Fail.

Even with these price drops you are still getting a horrible deal. Last Gen DVD technology, No Motion controls, No built in wireless. No Thanks
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2008/08/04

dudeman,

The way most people see it is:

* Current Gen DVD upconverted perfectly to 1080p.

* Optional Wireless

* Rumble Controller included with the Xbox 360.

* High-Definition cables included with the Xbox 360.

______________________

Playstation 3 is seen like this:

* No Rumble Controller included with the Playstation 3

* Watered-down, virtually USELESS Motion controls. The sixaxis is pathetic compared to the motion controls of the Wii.

NOTE: I could say "PS3's sixaxis controller is pathetic compared to the upcoming Xbox 360 motion controller, but owners of the Xbox 360 do NOT need to waste energy talking about "potential" or "future possibilities.'" Xbox 360 owners have the BIGGEST and BEST library of Games and Accessories NOW!

* You pay for what you get. The fact that the PS3 has Blu-ray and wireless inside it proves something: If the PS3 had DVD and did not include Wireless, it would cost about $200. In other words, the Graphic Hardware of the Xbox 360 is more valuable than the Playstation 3, which is why you always end up with better graphics on the Xbox 360...but hey, I'm a fair guy...at least the Playstation 3 has a "space advantage" in less than 1% of games that require more than one DVD.
Written by dudeman on 2008/08/04

You definitely get what you pay for and if you want LAST GEN Technology with no builtin wireless OR the ability to play true high definition movies the you should get an xbox 360.

The ps3 has it all!!!!!!

and it is FLYING off of the shelves.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/08/04

Crawling is more like it Dudeman. Neither 360's or PS3's are flying anywhere. Wii's are the only consoles flying off shelves. Since when was wifi and Blu-Ray movie playback required for videogames? Your still trying to sell the PS3 as hard as Urdnot is trying to sell the 360.
Written by dudeman on 2008/08/04

ps3's sell themselves just look at June NPD numbers. I'm just countering the idiotic rantings of krogan with idiotic rantings of my own. LOL

Blu ray is going to become essential for games and we are beginning to see this take place. Also wifi is definitely a must these days for most homes. I know it is in my home.
Written by blacktiger on 2008/08/04

what ?

Xbox 360 doesn't have wifi ?
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/08/04

Somebody put BlackTigers ignorant a$$ out of his misery already. I understand the whole wifi thing. I understand Blu-Ray's space advantage. But they are stil not necessary Dudeman. it's nice. don't get me wrong. Not having to run a cable or swap a disc is nice. But once again you can work around those 2 features.

I do agree though that next generation all 3 consoles better have Blu-Ray or equivalent/higher storage mediums for games, standard HDD's, wifi, and HDMI/1080P/60fps capable hardware or I will be pissed. I want games that use my 1080P HDTV...

This generation is a disappointment.
Written by evilblackranger on 2008/08/04

add me on psn.

Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2008/08/05

Blu-ray probably doesn't offer enough space for the next-generation of gaming.

Kojima-san of Konami already said that the dual-layer Blu-ray used for the PS3 still did NOT have enough space to include everything he wanted.

And with textures offering over 12,000 x 12,000, it will take something MUCH BIGGER than Blu-ray!

It may be necessary to create a custom type of disc, similar to what Sega did with the GD-ROM of the Dreamcast.

But, I think the future seems to be pointing towards flash-style memory devices that hold HUGE amounts of data and cost very little. This would virtually eliminate load times, and allow far more space than a Blu-ray disc.

*

$299 and $199 each represent magic price points. Xbox 360 Arcade sales will SHOOT THROUGH THE ROOF!
