That sucks, hopefully it gets patched in later.
Written by blacktiger on 2008/09/05

Actually It won't get patched!

Because its sucking MS money... at the moment...

Jesus Christ, you f^ckin sony fanboys need to GTFO
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/05

blacktiger: It won't get patched becuase Sony screwed up and didn't have trophies at the beginning. They just now implemented them a few months sgo and they are not "mandatory" for developers as of yet. It's why other mulitplatform games such as SC4 don't have trophy support either.

You can't just tack on features such as trophy's, in game custom music, force feedback, etc... and expect developers to either go back and patch thier games or include them in games going forward. Not after developers weren't required to support those features for the 1st year and a half of the consoles life and whatever time before hand was spent developing games such as Killzone 2, GT5, MGS4, etc...

So yes I will represent the XDF BlackTiger and tell you that your way off base blaming Microsoft for this. Blame Sony first. Bethesda second. Yourself third for buying a PS3 instead of a 360 :p

LMAO at blaming Microsoft for Sony's shortcomings...

I bet they patch it. Shouldn't be TOO hard to go in there and just mimic the 360 achievments. I could care less really since i'm buying the 360 version.

Did anyone else hear trophies were going to be mandatory starting in 2009 or did i dream that up?
Written by madgunde on 2008/09/05

@poprocker

I haven't heard, but it's kinda sad that a console company has to make something like that mandatory. It should be one of those things where it's a no-brainer for a developer to code that into future games since it's only going to help sell your game and shouldn't add much developer time.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/05

madgunde: I'm not a game developer so I don't know how hard or how long it takes to implement such features. I do know Microsoft made it mandatory. But they had thier acheivements system in place from the beginning...

I'm not mad at the developers. I'm sorry but the bottom line is this is Sony's fault.

Poprocker: Sounds easy enough. But then again I don't know how hard it is to program trophy's in comparison to achievements. We all know Sony is notorious for poor development tools for 3rd partys. I did hear that trophies were going to be mandatory in 2009 too. So time will tell...

Edit: I didn't mean to start a flame war if I did with the 3rd party support statement. But just look at the quality of first party games and how developers such as Insomniac, Guerrilla Games, Naughty Dog, etc.. are talking about sharing knowledge with each other.

One of the big differences between the two is that like the friends list, messaging, voice chat, etc. achievements are implemented directly in the 360's OS. The same can not be said for Sony's trophies.

That does create extra work in not only adding the trophies but how they work within the system. I have no doubt that sony has mandatory rules covering how they want these trophies handled so that there is a consistency between them across games.

Edit:

In no way was what I said a bash against sony, it's just the way both system's OS is implemented.

Eh i guess i'm a little upset... At least i get to play around in home this holiday
Written by madgunde on 2008/09/05

I agree it's Sony's fault and that they should have had trophies from the beginning, well, assuming it worked properly and didn't delay the release of the PS3. I just think that any new developer starting a new project now, with access to the trophies API shouldn't need to be told they HAVE to implement them to see the benefit of putting it on their to do list for their game. Competing games are going to have it, and it could make the difference between the customer buying their game or yours. Now granted, I'm not a developer either, but I just can't see it being hard to implement if it was planned from the beginning. If other developers can add it late in their developer cycle (for example, Bioshock), then what excuse does a developer who has full knowledge and access to the APIs from day one have?

Unfortunately the reality is that there are some crummy developers out there, and some might just not like the idea of trophies, so if given the choice they might choose to spend the dev cycles on something else, or simply not spend them at all to keep the budget down.

What does HOME have anything to do with Fallout 3 not having trophies?

Do you want a cookie or something?
Written by Sky on 2008/09/05

you can look at the trophies in 3D in home

I wont be able to see my fallout 3 trophies

now go play somewhere.
Written by B1ueBurneR on 2008/09/05

One thing that good about achievements is that if I'm playing fall out 3, and or see someone on my friendlist that has the same game, I go into their profile and see how far they have gotten in the game & whats unlocked, that way if I need help I just message them or if they are online.

I direct chat so to have a talking game walkthrough. I hope trophies offers the same thing to other gamers, Its really a next step in gaming that I glad this generation has.

@Xenos, Lol, if you do not know by now, SKY is a Sony slave (slaves work for free), if there is negative news about his Beloved PS3, he'll find something positive to say about it, doesn't matter if its on or off topics.
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/05

I understand that you can see the trophies in home sky, but Fallout 3 doesn't have trophies so you're not getting what you want.

eh nevermind, I don't even care to make sense of your psycho-babble.
Written by poprocker on 2008/09/05

You can compare trophies with others on the ps3.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/05

poprocker: yes you can but it's slooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!!!!!

It's slow. They need to fix in-game xmb and viewing each others profiles...
Written by poprocker on 2008/09/05

It's slow but it's not 'D*mn, I guess I'll go make a sandwich" slow.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/05

No. But it's damn wtf slow... Reminds me of a computer running Vista with less than 2 gig of RAM :p
Written by arthur56k on 2008/09/06

damn, cant really keep up with all these name changes.

on topic, Sony has to take responsibility, and start getting the trophies to be a mandatory task taken by all developers, set the framework and make sure it gets implemented right, has to happen sooner rather than later
