	Japanese papers, including NikkeiNet, reported over the weekend that Nintendo is planning to release a new, upgraded, version of their popular Nintendo DS handheld. The new model will feature a built-in camera, MP3 and music playback functionality, and an improved Wi-Fi antenna. The new DS price is being reported at under 20,000 Yen, which is around $189USD, and for now, it is only planned for release in Japan. How is it that Sony can have 3 revisions of their handheld, but when Ninty does it, it's "lame"?

The double standards of this site never ceases to disgust me.

i think its pretty neat. i don't think it would compel me to buy a DS again. One thing i've learned about myself is that I just can't keep up with handhelds

If true, I'm sure it'll be a welcome addition and will help keep sales fresh. Sucks for those who just bought one and for those who are planning on buying one soon, because until this rumor is confirmed, the question will be to buy or not to buy yet.

madgunde: Maybe, maybe not. One of the things thats attractive about the DS is the price. I have to truly question how good the camera will be or how effective the MP3 player will be. Will memory cards have enough space and be cost effective??? Will that $189.00 in US be the price here if it ever made it overseas?

But I have seen that DS sales have started to slow down in Japan this year. So maybe your right, maybe it will spur sales.

Interesting, usually Nintendo make use of their hardware features with new software. Will the new DS have some kind of video-chat or something?
