Rare Says SD Blurry Text Issue Here To Stay > |
2008/11/05 10:12:05: Posted by DM | |
The release of the Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts Demo brought to light the same issue that Capcom experienced with Lost Planet -- the on-screen text was very hard to read for non-HD TV users. Unfortunately, Rare says it is not likely to be fixed before launch. Over on NeoGAF, Rare's Community Manager George Kelion said not only woudl it cost too much, but there just is no time."Unfortunately, this is an issue that doesn't look like it will get changed. I don't want to bore you with the technical side of things (I really don't understand it all myself), but the long and the short of it is that the text you see in the demo will be the same as that which you find in the retail version of the game," said Kelion.

Another Capcom game, Dead Rising, had the same issue on 360. Text was incredibly hard to read on my old SDTV. So I just bought a 46" LCD :)

@xCHRISxI was surprised how many people still play HD games on SD TVs. Two Christmas's ago, my family rented a cottage for the holiday and I brought my PS3 up to help kill the time. I hardly touched it because I couldn't stand how crappy the games I normally enjoyed on my 50" HDTV looked. Mind you, the TVs at the cottage were pretty old and not very big (probably 19"-21"). Still, broke my heart.

madgunde: My brother has a 1080i 42" Plasma HDTV. He ran his PS3 on the SD cables till about a month ago when he finally got an HDMI cable. There are alot of people who are uneducated about the HD consoles capabilities and requirements.

@PimpDaddyYeah, I hear ya. It pays to read the manual, but very few people do. Sony could make it easier by having a little tutorial when you first boot your PS3 up explaining that "to enjoy the best possible graphics, if you have a high definition television an HDMI or component cable (sold seperately) are highly recommended. If you'd like to learn more about these cable options, press square." Mind you, if you own an HDTV, you really should take the time to read it's manual or ask someone who knows about them when making major purchases. I mean Sony shouldn't have to tell you how to use your TV (unless it's a Sony TV). Likewise, if you own a Dolby Digital or DTS receiver, Sony shouldn't have to tell you that you need to use an optical or HDMI cable to get 5.1/7.1 surround sound.
But it is in their best interests to help customers make the best choices for connecting/configuring their PS3 so they can ensure their customers get the best experience which ultimately is going to mean better satisfaction and increased sales.
