inFamous PS3 Will Be About 'Quality' Not Length, Says Dev >
2008/11/12 16:54:15: Posted by DM
Sucker Punch/Insomniac Games Creative Director Nate Fox has said developers should focus on quality, not quantity. This is more or less code for shorter games, folks, unfortunately. This suggests that that the new PS3 title inFamous is being made short and great, as opposed to long and mediocre. Why it cannot be long and great both, we are not sure. We can also expect a lot more DLC add-ons for games, as it has now become the S.O.P. (standard operating procedure, for you acronyminally-challenged), and the excuse for releasing for games with short single-player campaigns.

"Look at God of War - it is an excellent game, an instant classic, and it's only like seven hours long," he said in our Live Text interview. "GTA IV is 30 hours long, and people wanted more? That just tells you how excellent that game is.

You know I still think this game doesn't impress me, I mean yea technology i wise is nice, but I dont see the big deal for this game...

Looks like a crackdown on steroids to me and that's awesome. Crackdown was around 8 hours long and that game still rocks IMO, mostly due to the freedom and co-op.

If inFamous can capture the same "fun" magic, then it shouldn't matter how long the game is.

On a side note, I do find it amusing to how so many sony fanboys thought that games would be longer on the ps3 due to it's blu-ray disc, but we see plenty of short games with hardly a complaint from them. How interesting......... >_>

what happened to blue ray is needed?

Edit:

if you weren't one of these fanboys, then there is no reason to be offended by my comment. I enjoy taking the cheap shots at the hypocritical fanboys.

You guys are true dumbass, if you talk about how short the game is, at least be honest about how great the graphic is...

Look at Resistance 2, okay graphic but look how long the game is,

Killzone might be short but you gota admit how good the graphic is,

Gameplay is a whole different story but if you gonna talk about negative at least about both side

Cons and Pros !!!

Stupid Fanboys !!!

Blacktiger: Please learn proper grammar if you're going to rip on someone. If not, I'm sure you'll get more hateful comments about how dumb you are.

On topic: Blu Ray will probably have it's first significant advantage in the console market when FF XIII gets released. FF games usually have tons of video and whatnot. If they put it in HD then it would use up the space on a DVD real quick. I'm guessing 360 will be multiple discs, where PS3 could use one but who knows?

blacktiger: I think you forgot to take your meds son. Calm down. Your spelling and grammar get even worse as your blood pressure rises.

Getting all defensive just because Blu-Ray has been exposed as nothing more than a media for HD movies. Sorry but DVD-9 is fine for this generation.

SDF am cry.

Wow at blacktiger, many thanks for the laughs. My point was that storage medium =/= game length.

Resistence 2 is actually a poor example since the game is actually shorter than R1 with minimal graphical upgrades. Killzone 2 is pointless since we don't know how long it is and storage doesn't always dictate graphical performace.

@ chuckl163, I fail to see how FF XIII would show the first advantage of blu-ray. Yes, FF games have tons of pre-rendered FMV, but that hasn't lowered the quality of past FF titles, at least to the sony fanboys.

So no, I really don't see how multiple discs can show any "significant" advantage to blu-ray, especially if the game runs into the same install issues as MGS4 did. Not saying it will, but it's a possibility.

I was just saying that if the movies were pre-rendered in HD, they will eat away at storage space pretty quick. I know FFX and XII had plenty of FMV's but they weren't HD. DVD-9 would be find if they are stored in standard def. Or better yet, make them in-game graphics. But we all know Square Enix doesn't like to do that.

I'm definitely down with this game. Sucker Punch is a proven developer and I have faith that this game will rock. I'm hoping it is as open as Crackdown was. I've been interested in this game since it's been announced.

I understand all of that, but what here's my question: What's the difference between past FF games being multi-disc and current FF games being multi-disc?

The use of DVD 9 won't stop square from using HD FMV, true that it will take up more space, thus requiring extra discs, but if the end game is the same besides the moment needed to swap discs then I don't see anything significant about that.

That's a good one !

BlackTiger: Here's some more fuel for your fire. NPD results for the US in October.

PlayStation 2 136K

PlayStation 3 190K

PSP 193K

Xbox 360 371K

Wii 803K

Nintendo DS 491K

The 360 almost doubled up the PS3 in sales. Heck the 360 outsold the PS3 and PS2 combined. Or the PSP and PS2 combined.

Weren't you saying that 2008 was the year of the PS3??? GTFO. Oh and Fallout3 outsold LBP and LBP was released earlier in the month. OWNED!!!!!

Everyone: Sorry I'm still bitter that my 360 got RROD. But shoving those numbers in SDF BlackTiger's face helps ease my pain :p

wait until Killzone 2 Pimp.

Then wait until GT5.

Followed by wait until _____

Happy to see LBP up on the top 10 though, some people didn't think it would sell that great, while others thought it would be a system seller. I'm happy that it just sold well, we need more original games. Now I hope the gaming community doesn't let me down by not picking up Mirror's Edge and Left 4 Dead.
