Over 12000 titles are available for Instant Viewing via Netflix's newest partner - Microsoft and it's Xbox360. But today, after the launch of the New Xbox Experience, Sony has removed some of its content from Netflix. In a statement released by Sony, they retorted with, "This issue is not specific to Xbox or any other individual platform. Sony Pictures is currently in discussions with the relevant parties to resolve certain licensing matters related to the distribution of its motion pictures..."

Sony am cry. Bu Bu Bu Bu Blu-Ray
Written by blacktiger on 2008/11/20

well Blu Ray is doing better than DVD in comparison timeline... so no need to cry PimpD

beside its not like you own PS3

Actually blacktiger, he does. I can vouch for that.

Also of note, Sony pictures is a seperate entity from Sony Computer Entertainment. Sony PC's run Windows OS. Their films have been featured on XBL before, and will likely be featured again soon.

Mountain out of a molehill.

While this is being blown out of praportion, there is till a nugget of truth in this. People in the closed preview for NXE, who were under NDA, were able to view these movies just fine prior to the 17th when Sony put the stop to this feature.

Time will tell if Sony just needs to correct their licensing or is they are just acting out of bitterness. No one can deny that it's odd to how every other studio had their licensing in order other than Sony though. =p

Victus is right that the game divisions of both companies usually do not effect the other divisions within said companies. He's also correct that Sony movies have been on XBLM, but none of the movies directly under the Sony pictures name, just MGM studios. Sony is obviously holding any movies away from XBLM that has a direct association with them.

Hardly a big deal and like I said earlier, time will tell what the true reason is.

On the subject, I didn't think I would consider this before, but with what I'm reading of this Netflix feature, I'm tempted to start my own account. Having the ability to stream HD movies and TV shows to my monitor without the need to get up off my lazy ass is a welcome feature.

@Xenos,

the ability to stream HD movies and TV shows has been a Netflix feature for sometime now. i believe its just been implemented within the XBOX OS.

Xenos: Just remember that the "Watch Instantly" library is much smaller than the movies they will mail to you directly. But it is still pretty cool and there is a decent selection. It's like having the "on demand" feature from Cable or Satellite, only better quality.

I have had NetFlix for 4 month's now. So worth it.

HD streaming debuted with NXE, IIRC you can only view HD streams through the 360, there were announcements about this a few weeks back.

@ Pimp, yeah I know the selection is smaller compared to the DVD selection, thanks for the heads up though. =) It's still a tempting feature so I could have less of a reason to go to Nutbuster

@Xenos,

your right about it debuting with the NXE, but its not limited to only the 360.

Roku box, TiVo HD boxes and some Samsung blu-ray players will have that ability as well.

i know i promised my mom a blu-ray player when she got a plasma, at least knowing that service is available on a blu-ray player makes it a bit easier to which one i'll get... now, if only they would be cheaper lol....

although the Samsung blu-ray player streams netflix, and the CNET news indicated that all netflix boxes will stream HD, i'm not 100% certain if the Samsung blu-ray player will do as well

ha ha fuck off Sony you petty bastards

I love this feature on my 360, the picture is great. Sony this is the future, you can choose to ignore it for the moment, but I'm not sure that fucking with Netflix customers is the best strategy for pushing them to own a Bluray player.
