Strong game sales rounded out a historic Black Friday for Xbox 360, with record-paced software sales continuing for key Microsoft titles, such as “Gears of War 2,” “Fable II,” and “Lips.” Xbox 360 continues to have the highest game attach rate of any console at 8.1 games per console. “We entered into the Black Friday sales period with cautious optimism, knowing that dollar for dollar, Xbox 360 offers more social entertainment value than any other console on the market,” said Don Mattrick, senior vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “Record Black Friday sales in the U.S., coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox LIVE members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009.” Xbox 360 sales have also surged worldwide since the September price drop, outselling the PlayStation 3 week over week across Europe. Console sales in Europe are up as much as 400 percent, with sales nearly double year over year and reaching 7 million consoles sold this generation. @ blacktiger, well we have the blind sony zombies like you and sky, then we have people who prefer the ps3 like Victus and madgunde, and honestly I'm not sure who prefers the 360 here other than nemesis and I. Maybe they haven't posted any ps3 selling news since it really hasn't been selling good? just a thought...

Seriously though, how convenient that the Wii has been totally ignored in this press release. I know that PRs are meant to make you look good and nothing else, but I still find it amusing.

Who was it here that said the latest 360 price cut will work against it? Honest question because I want to know who I need to laugh at since every sales report (worldwide, not just US) has proven how wrong he was. I could always just check that thread out....

Ummm, it was a 5 million or so gap and after all is said and done, the gap will probably be 6 or 7 million by the end of the year blacktiger.

Also, the ps3 isn't winning around the world. I'd say now WW the 360 is selling more, but again it's by such a small amount it's not worth mentioning.

Look at the what each company announces for install base if you don't believe me.

Sony claims 16.5 million and MS claims 25 million, right? That's a lot more than "only 3-4 million units away"

What I don't understand is why can't 2009 be "the year of gaming"?? It's great that the ps3 is getting into full swing in terms of software, but why does this have to mean that the Wii or 360 are lacking or hindered in this aspect?

What's sickening is that I'm reading the same "360 has no games in 09" BS. I recall reading the same crap last year when 08 came up and look at all the games we have now. There is PLENTY for MS to announce next year, you can bookmark, quote, or hold whatever you want over my head in that regard since I'm not guessing at all ;)

blacktiger: You have serious issues Fud Boy. The gap is already 6.5 million and climbing. The 360 outsells the PS3 consistently in USA and EU. Heck even in Canada where you live.

The reason there is no news on the PS3 outselling the 360 is because it was marginal at best during the first half of the year. Ever since Microsoft cut the price of the 360 arcade to $199.00 in the US it has been an absolute squash. Not to mention a while back Microsoft was able to show how they have outsold the PS3 in Europe through actual sales charts tracking.

Oh did I forget to mention how the 360 outsold the PS3 for 7 consecutive weeks in Japan? Bottom line is price matters, and although the 360 can't touch the Wii in sales numbers, it is effectively doubling the PS3 in sales on a worldwide basis.

Then you have the PS2 eating into PS3 sales, and sub $200.00 Blu-Ray players eliminating the need for videophiles to buy a PS3 anymore. Need I go on???

Xenos: Well I think it is. Just in the past month though. None of us will ever truly know the sales figures. But several sales tracking websites I visit all seem to track the 360 at a 2:1 ratio over the PS3 right now. It makes sense considering that the 360 and PS3 aren't new any more and now it comes down to price and content. In both those categories I think the 360 is superior to the PS3.

That being said, the fact that the PS3 even sells as many units as it does at price points of 400-500 is rather impressive. Brand name recognition has been Sony's main saving grace this generation. I just wonder how much of Sony's loyal fanbase has jumped shipped this generation...

However also allow me to point out that the Wii or DS alone manage to outsell all 3 of Sony's videogame hardware on a monthly basis.

We can all "wait for" Killzone 2, God of War 3, and whatever else but none of them have the system selling prowess as Halo, GT, Gears, or MGS.

Xenos: With the DS I absolutely agree. I can't agree with the Wii. But thats my opinion. By the end of this calendar year there will be 40 million Wii owners disagreeing with me.

It's just filthy how bad the Wii rapes the 360 and Ps3 combined in sales. I guess graphics, HD, surround sound, 10+ button controllers, online service, multimedia functions don't matter to most consumers.

That being said SuperSmashBrothers and MarioKart FTW!!!!! Seriously I will buy every single Nintendo console made in the future just to play those 2 games. I apologize to the videogame gods for not buying a N64.

Despite console sales, I say 360 is the true winner of this generation. This is microsoft's 2nd attempt at this market and look how much ass kicking they have done. All Microsoft has to do now is kick Sony while they're down, and aim there crosshairs at Nintendo, which is clearly what they're doing.

I Respect the PSP's Games

I like My Wii Game's

that is how i feel on the most breaked down level i could possible have posted. on the topic fair play to the 360, it was an obvious result really, the 360 has more exclusives and is getting all the repeated games like EA games. the 360 is this generstions ps2 in terms of open releases, the Wii of course will be the overall winner.

jb33 said that the 360 sells would be strong through xmas. He said numerous times he was talkin about 7-8 months from now, which obviously cant be determined yet if his prediction was right or not!

@ billmomgaye, yeah I looked over the thread again and realized that after I posted the link. So I do owe him the least bit of an apology.

However, care to elaberate why a selling price point now would all of a sudden look less attractive 6 months from now? There's also the strong possibility that there will be another price drop next year due to the valhalla boards hitting production. These boards will do A LOT to cut down on the production costs.

3/4 of those 360 's blew up the moment they were plugged in. The remaining few realised that only gears and fable are worth playing.

kungfurabbit: So sad that an american made console with a serious hardware design flaw can outsell a japanese made, industry leading the past 2 generations, brand name console that plays HD movies, has built in wifi, standard HDD, motion control, and a free online service.
