2008 Game Sales Dominated By Family Friendly Titles > |
2009/01/28 17:57:13: Posted by DM | |
Asw we reported earlier, 2008 was a record year for the game industry, with $21 billion USD in sales. Well, it seems that over half of the game sales were "E" and "E10+" rated, while "M" rated games made up only 15% or so of total sales. Seeing how well the Wii sells, the fact that family oriented titles are on the rise is not surprising. How big the gap is between the family oriented sales and the mature game sales is a bit surprising, though.

Is that what we're calling crappy Wii games now, lol? "Family Friendly."ON a serious note, the M in gaming is the same as an R in the theatres, so it makes sense that E-T rated games do better, even if many of them suck. Aside from Guitar Hero and Rock Band, I only have two 'E -T' rated games, Burnout Paradise and Civilization Revolutions.

Edit: Three games with an E-T rating, I forgot about LBP...though some of the user levels walk the "M" line, lol.
