SCEA stated this morning that there are 14 million active PSN accounts, globally. The 14 million users have downloaded over 273 million different bits of content, as well. In July, Sony said that there were 9.8 million registered users, this is a big jump for less than a year.

"With 14 million active accounts and 273 million pieces of content downloaded, we know that you're thirsting for this digital entertainment," said John Koller, director of hardware marketing for SCEA, on the company blog.

According to the Playstation Blog, the Capcom section of the PSN Store that we told you about a while back is finally in place. On Thursday, after the update, you will find all the Capcom titles available for purchase online in one section, such as Bionic Commando and Street Fighter Alpha. Check it out.

The Playstation PSN Store has been updated with new stuff, folks. First, the new issue of the Qore digital magazine is out, and this one has the PSN HOME Beta for annual subscribers. There are also MGS4 and NCAA Basketball 09 demos to be had, as well as two free Little Big Planet costumes, and a whole slew of videos and trailers.

Sony HOME PSN Community Manager, forum name TedTheDog on the official forums, responded to users who asked how applicants would be selected for the HOME PSN Open Beta, which is slated to start later this year. He related that Sony had considered a few plans, but decided that the chosen would be picked "broadly based on the concept of loyalty." We really have no idea what that means, and the users on the forums are having a field day with it, of course. As for when the Open Beta stage is going to start, he said that it will begin "within weeks" of the US-only Qore subscriber's beta access giveaway. The new Qore comes out today, by the way.

"We've picked the names already and no, I'm not going to reveal the list."

Capcom has apparently stated that Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be available this month. Of course, we do not expect the game until later in the month, and Capcom, of course, did not give a specific date. What exactly is taking this game so incredibly long is anyone's guess. Psssst, netcode?

"You can start your salivating because HD Remix is coming to your console this November," a spokesperson for the publisher told us. "Exact date TBD. Don't hate me! Trust us, it's coming."

In case you missed it, it seems Sony is very busy trying to make sure that the PSN HOME will hit the open beta stage by the end of the year. According to Sony Worldwide Studios Vice President Jamie MacDonald, at the Tokyo Game Show this year it was announced that it would be ready for the open testing by year's end. We know, though, how many times Sony has delayed HOME. It was supposed to be out already. Let's hope this date holds.

Sony has posted a new PSN HOME advertisement on the network sign-up screen on the PS3 PSN, it seems. This is fueling new speculation that the almost-year-overdue service may be launching soon, or at least the promised open beta will. Sony has denied to comment on this speculation, of course, and says "Autumn" is still the best date they can give.

Sony is sending out email indicating they have updated their PSN and PS3 use Terms of Service. Most of the changes likely have to do with all the online-enabled games being released soon, but some of the changes may affect game sharing, it seems. Read the updated changes in red, and see what's new.

The PSN HOME beta users now have a very interesting area to explore. The environments from Far Cry 2 are now explorable inside the HOME beta. You can head inside the space and dig deeper into the upcoming Far Cry 2 game and its African landscapes. You can visit a bombed-out train station that has been turned into a makeshift office for Reuben Oluwagembi, a journalist caught in the middle of the warring UFFL and APR factions. HOME beta users like us can check it out now, it is a pretty interesting idea.
