Sega has just announced Phantasy Star Universe for the PSP. Now, before you get excited, we are sorry to report that as of now the only "online" play the game supports is a 4-player co-op mode via ad-hoc networking. Sega has no plans to put the game online proper. This means it is basically an offline multiplayer dungeon crawler. If you can find others with a PSP and the game, that is. Sega, put this game online and sell a bunch otherwise it will rot in obscurity here in the US.

Sega has extended the Xbox360 Phantasy Star beta test. Now, players can experience the PSU online world until October 21. Grab it on the marketplace if you have not already.

Yesterday we told you that the Phantasy Start Universe Xbox360 open beta would be starting on October 11. Well, now Sega has postponed the open beta indefinitely. Maybe they underestimated the demand. (Thanks, Kl0wn)

Starting on October 11th, Xbox360 can check out Phantasy Star Universe online free in an open beta test held by Sega. This limited time event will end soon, so if you have Xbox Live Gold, check the link for info.

COntrary to previous reports, Sega's upcoming MMO sequel will cost gamers ten dollars a month to play on the XBox360. According to PlanetXBox360, Orange Lounge Radio, who originally reported the game would be free to play, corrected themselves when they received an email from Sega. Oh well, it was too good to be true, and you know what they say about that.

It seems that the sequel to the tremendously poplar MMO game Phantasy Star Online is having its share of serious technical difficulties. Phantasy Star Universe (PS2 and PC), which has not been released stateside yet, had its server shut down on the night of September 3. This was due to massive technical issues which made things like player character deletion a daily event. The grand re-launching of the game will take place in October, and the free 30-day trial included with the game will be calculated from that time. The bad news (as if there was any good news) "…it is possible that during the testing period, player data will be rolled back or deleted…" Time to try again, Sega.

Phantasy Star Universe which was recently pushed back to Fall 2006, has now been changed back to "sometime in 2006." According to Sega this was for the usual reasons, improve the game quality, online issues, etc. Now we would not be surprised if this game sees release in 2007, and for a Playstation 2 online game, that pretty much means it will get lost in the shuffle.
