Well, this is rather disturbing. Despite the information that has been available up to this point, now it seems that Square is not going to release any Final Fantasy titles at all on the Xbox360. A Square executive revealed this to Nikkei BP. When the website asked Square Enix's Shinji Hashimoto if the Wii or Xbox 360 will also be getting games in the [Final Fantasy] series, he replied: "For the Wii, we have FF Crystal Chronicles in production," replied Hashimoto. "As for FF on the Xbox 360, it's currently a completely blank page." Wow.

The first trailer for the upcoming Wii Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles title has been posted. As you can see, the game looks fantastic. although how the game will work with the Wiimote is unclear.

In case you missed this from teh Square Enix party recently, the Sony handheld will be getting a game called Dissidia from Square. The game is, in essence, a Final Fantasy All-Stars game, if you will, which pits players against each other in arena fighting style. The players can use their favorite characters from all of the FF games, no complete character list is available just yet. Think Super Smash Brothers but filled with Square characters. Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the Final Fantasy series, has again criticized the PS3 for being very difficult to program for. He also went on to chide Microsoft for making the Xbox30 unappealing in Japan and failing to promote the consoe thorougly on the island-country. To top it all off, when asked why he is not developing anything for the PS3 currently, he replied: The machine's architecture is tricky, and I don't like Ken Kutaragi." Hmm, them's is fightin' words.

It seems Square is going to have a special announcement for the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy. The anniversary is on December 18, 2007, so it is almost a year away, so don't expect more info any time soon.

Final Fantasy III on the Nintendo DS, one of the most anticipated FF releases in recent memory, has been pushed back two weeks. The release date is now November 14, 2006. For those of you who have been waiting patiently, it is only a bit longer. For those of you who have already beaten the game on emulators and such, go about your business.

Square has responded to the recent news item that stated they are working on a successor to FFXI for both the XBox360 and PS3. To noone's surprise, they have denied the rumor. They go even further and claim that they are developing an MMORPG for the next-gen consoles, but it is a brand new IP, not FF related.

According to Gamefront, Square Enix is working on a successor to their on-line RPG FFXI for PS3 and Xbox 360. This is according to the Japanese trade journal Nihon Keizai Shimbun, says Gamefront. No more info at this time, but it sounds very possible.

More Final Fantasy news today, this time of a more substantial nature. Famitsu has posted a slew of new Final Fantasy XIII screens on their website.
