In addition, Infrogrames revealed that they offered to acquire SCi, and were rejected, and that they are now going to lend Atari (now an Infogrames subsidiary) 20 million to fund the company from now until the merger closes."Bringing Atari US and Infogrames businesses together will enable us to create a simplified global structure for our business as we seek to re-build a well-managed, cohesive and financially disciplined company," said Infogrames CEO David Gardner in a statement.

David Gardner, the new Atari head, is considering dropping the Infogrames name in favor of the more-recognizable Atari name. Sounds like a reasonable move, as many non-gamers do not know of Infogrames, yet Atari is known the world around."We like to think of Infogrames, instead of being the tired, old company, we like to think of it as the best-funded, best-branded, most energetic start-up in the history of computer gaming."

In light of Atari's troubled financial situation which was announced last week, the company is looking to sell some of its development studios. Atari is more or less the label French company Infogrames uses here in the US. The layoffs they are planning will apply to the North American operation only, and CNN/Money's Chris Morris reports on what Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is saying about the decision. Apparently, according to him, Atari should be cutting overseas jobs, not North American jobs. Then again no one has ever accused Atari of making sound business decisions.
