Gamasutra has compiled a list of the top selling games of 2008 (some estimated till the end of the year), and it looks like the Wii is seriously pulling ahead. Besides Grand Theft Auto IV, at the number 3 slot, the rest of the chart is all Wii games. Super Smash Brothers takes the top honors, followed by Mario Kart, Wii Play, and Wii Fit. How anyone can say the Wii is not doing well, is beyond us.

The Times Online technology seciton got the chance to speak with the legend himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, about Wii Fit, and how it is bringing families together in Japan. Miyamoto said he believes this will happen in the UK as well. Once again, Nintendo's goal with the Wii, which is to bring gaming to people who would not normally game, has been achieved with Wii Fit."We want to broaden the definition of what a videogame is, to create games for people whether they are five or 95, whether they are men or women," added Miyamoto.Wii Fit is released in the US within the month, and only time will tell if it will catch on as it did in Japan. American families may prove a harder nut to crack.

Nintendo has confirmed that Wii Fit will launch in the US on May 19, 2008. The retail price will be $89.99, and will include more than 40 activities to perform with the Wii balance board. The title is a big hit in Japan, and home-exercise fans seem to enjoy it.Nintendo says the title is intended to keep "every member of the household can step up and stay active, setting individual fitness goals and tracking their progress over time."

According to the New York Post, the Wii Fit software and balance board accessory are set to storm US shores. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is predicting the game could be one of the industry's biggest blockbusters of 2008. The game should easily clear 3-4 million units in sales, but time will tell for sure. Get ready for May 19, 2008, because from then on, there will be no more excuses for those extra belly fat pounds!

Over at the official Wii website, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has a conversation with the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto about Wii Fit, the upcoming exercise game for the Wii that ships with a balance board accessory. It is full of info, and hey, two Nintendo legends are chatting it up. Check it out.

According to the Nikkei, the Wii Fit hardware from Nintendo has sold over 1 million units in Japan, and it is not even released here int he US yet! Since launching on December 1, 2007, the Wii Fit unit has turnedo ut to be a great success. The bundle comes with the Wii Fit balance board, and software with over 40 types of exercises that links to a new Wii channel which keeps track of the user's Body Mass Index and other stats. Come on Nintendo, we need the game here!

Yesterday, in case you missed it, the annual Nintendo Fall Press Briefing was held. The biggest news was that Wii Fit, the new Nintendo acessory, has been dated in Japan. On December 1, 2007, Wii Fit will be released for 8800yen. No word on a US date yet, but it should be soon after. Two other bits of news, Mario Kart will be coming with a new steering wheel accessory, and will ship sometime in Spring 2008. Also, Smash Brothers has been officially delayed until January 24, 2008. The big man himself, Shigeru Miyamoto, has come out at the Nintendo press conference to announce his new Wii masterpiece, the Wii Fit game. This physical fitness game comes with a new peripheral, the Wii Balance Board. It is like a very thin excercise step, as you can see by the images we were able to obtain. The device is wireless, and Miyamoto claims Nintendo has plans in the future to use this device for other title -- surfing maybe?
