Sega Saturn PS2 Pad

Back when Sega released the Sega Saturn, the control pads were bulky and unpleasant here in America. In Japan it was a different story. What a dream it was, 6 buttoned, perfectly weighted, and extremely well suited for the types of games Saturn excelled at, 2D parallax games, including fighting (original Saturn Pad from Japan pictured right). This led to importers selling out the Japanese Saturn pads almost daily. Sega finally wised up and brought the pads to America which led to a bunch of old Saturn pads heading to the bargain bin. Now Sega, in an attempt to capitalize on the resurgence in fighting games, is manufacturing pads for the PS2 based on the good old Sega Saturn design. I should not say based on, since they are nearly identical to the old Saturn pads. Sega had already brought USB versions of this pad to the MAC and PC world, and they worked out splendidly. On to the testing.




Now, here is a little ingenious modding I did to the pad, which just goes to show how close these pads are to the original Saturn pads. In Japan, Sega produced a multi-colored pad for the Saturn that looked like this:
