Ninja Gaiden 2

Labeled With  ninja gaiden 2 xbox360 tecmo

Of course, as this is a Ninja Gaiden game, the story gets more and more convoluted as the game goes on until, in the end, there are only 4 people in the world who actually understand what the heck is going on. But we all know we do not play Ninja Gaiden for its mundane and easy-to-follow storyline. The addition of the CIA into the mix makes the story in NG2 especially hard to follow, as it seems it was just an arbitrary decision. Why am I telling you this? It is my way of saying not to give it a second thought if you have never played a Gaiden game before, it is not necessary. Even those of us who have are not in a much better position to understand the plot.

When the game begins, you will see Sonja, the big-breasted blonde from the Gaiden universe, come to the local ninja shop looking for Ryu. Of course, she is ambushed by the Spider Clan goons, as is the old man shopkeep. Ryu shows up, but it is too late for Sonja and she gets kidnapped by some of the Spider fiends. The first level is Ryu’s attempt to get her back from the clutches of the evil—doers, and in the process, find out just what the heck is going on this time around.

The game, this time around, does have two difficulty settings. The folks at Tecmo must have held Itagaki’s dog hostage and forced him to add an “acolyte” difficulty setting for those of us who were wary of dropping $70 dollars on a game when the first time around it was a waste of time and energy (and controllers). Either way, when you begin the game, you have the fabled dragon sword in your possession, and an unlimited supply of shurikens. By the end of the first level you will have obtained a new weapon and a “Ninpo” (ninja magic) power. You will also have added a significant number of combat moves to your repertoire by the first boss, which you will need to learn, as I said previously. Some of the moves are from the first Gaiden, some have been tossed, and some new ones have been added, although not many (except the ones linked to the new weapons).

One obvious addition to Ninja Gaiden 2 is the gore. The blood and guts level of the game has been cranked up to new heights. When you start wailing on the baddies, blood splatters literally everywhere – on the walls, on the floors, on the ceiling, and even in the water (if there is any around). Heads pop off, arms go flying, and legs, well, you’ll see. The game deserves the M rating it received, that is for sure. It does make killing all the more fun, though.
