After making Tony Hawk’s games for years, Neversoft has decided to try their hand at a non-skateboarding video game. Of course, as is the natural progression from skateboarding, Neversoft decided to make it a western-themed shoot-em-up adventure called Gun.

Working with movie writer Randal Johnson who has penned such movies as Sunset Strip, The Doors, and Mask Of Zorro, Neversoft weaves a tale of deceit and violence, with just a bit of sex – but mainly violence. You play main character Colton White (voiced by Thomas Jane), and after a short introduction where your father (Kris Kristofferson) dies, you must quest to find out exactly why the steamboat raiders killed your father.

As far as video games go, the story in this one is one of the better ones you will encounter. While it is not as epic as a Final Fantasy or a Metal Gear tale, it is enough to keep you interested until you finish. As the game progresses you will meet many interesting and colorful characters voiced by the likes of Ron Perlman, Lance Henriksen, and Tom Skerritt. Oh and did I mention the violence?

Adding to the overall feel of the game is the soundtrack, which is great but unfortunately does not play near enough. You are faced with long stretches of silence as you ride the plains looking for your next quest objective. The environment and other sound effects are adequate, enough so that they do not take away from the feel of the game.
