If you are truly desperate for Playstation 3 titles to play, you can always import some from Japan. Both MotorStorm and Armored Core 4 are available in the Land of the Rising Sun. Are they worth the hefty import price tag though? Well, MotorStorm really isn’t, unless you have money to burn.

You can download the demo of MotorStorm in the Playstation 3 US store right now. Keep in mind, the demo does have flaws that the full version does not. The frame rate and graphics in the demo have their issues, while the Japanese full version does not share these same issues.

The first thing that comes to mind if you play the Japanese retail version of MotorStorm is “is this it?” Basically the game comes with one mode. That’s right folks, a single player mode and that is it. There is not even a local multiplayer feature. This means that while you can race the tracks and progress through what is generously called the “Event” mode, that is just about all you can do in MotorStorm. There are two other options on the main menu, setup and movies. The movie choice basically allows playback of six high res movies that play in the background of the menu when you are selecting a track to race.

As I said, the graphics have been tweaked for the final version. There have been effects added, such as more splatter patterns and some great lighting effects, and the frame rate has been shored up so that it rarely drops below 30. On top of this, of course, you get to view the rest of the vehicles and tracks.

Now, the event mode is basically you standard play-through and unlock everything mode. You can select a fair amount of race events, over 25 by my count, and each event features at least three races (with a few notable exceptions that contain only one). When you select an event, you are then able to select which stage of the event you wish to play, and then which vehicle you would like to use.
