PS3 Firmware 2.4 Out Now, Games Need Patches To Support > |
2008/07/02 8:28:47: Posted by DM | |
The 2.4 Playstation 3 update is out, just like Sony promised, but there are a few stipulations.First of all, you cannot access the in-game XMB while watching a movie or while playing a PS1/PS2 game, not even downloaded PS1 games from the store. Sony is apparently looking into getting the XMB working with movies.Second, games need to be patched to support trophies and in-game custom soundtracks. Almost all games will not have retroactive trophies, otherwise the trophy whoring would run rampant, apparently. Super Stardust HD has its 4.00 patch out, which supports trophies, supposedly. That's it for now. Stay tuned.

Just installed the new update on my PS3. The in-game XMB works nicely and so far, no problems with the update. Kind of disappointed that the Trophy system doesn't list games that have 0 trophies. Would like to see what games my friends have recently played.

I wonder how often you xbox fanboys actually use the features you complain the PSN doesn't have. "Oh noes, I can't message my buddy while I'm watching a movie, whatever will I do?"BTW, SSHD does support trophies, and it works quite well. It's much better IMO than the simple point system xbl uses as it's broken down further by awarding color coded trophies based on the importance of the accomplishment. Oh, and it tells you the exact time you and your buddies have unlocked the trophies as well, so for those who care about bragging rights they can take it further. Time to start the "oh noes, xbl doesnt' tell me what time I got my achievements" complaints I suppose. Please, take the panties off and get a life.

So your 1 game with trophies is supposed to make me wish I hadn't traded in my PS3. Come on VaeVictus. Last year you tried to message me so we could play a game of Warhawk together. Unfortunately I couldn't see that message until I quit out of my game. By the time all that happened you had logged out. That was the last straw for me. I thought PSN was nice with it's dedicated servers, but the lack of integration features is what made me pull the plug on the PS3.
On Live if that same scenario happens I get the message in game, I can talk to my friend in game, and I can join thier game. Yes I have used those features. Live is about the network, the integration, ease of use. PSN is just a cheap knockoff that deserves to be free and is still playing catchup. Now Sony wants developers to back and repatch thier games to include in game custiom music and trophy support. Thats BS. Maybe by the time PS4 launches Sony will have made an online service that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Live.
