	The Xbox360 price cut is official come Sunday (according to Gamestop internal documents, that is), but will the PS3 follow suit? According to the Sony CFO, that's a negative. Nobuyuki Oneda, Sony’s chief financial officer, spoke to investors early this morning at the Nomura Asia Equity forum in Singapore. He reiterated that profitability on the console takes precedence over quantity, meaning they want to make money at this point instead of getting a larger installed user base. Sounds wrong to us, but who knows. "Our strategy is not to sell more quantity for PS3 but to concentrate on profitability," stated Oneda. "Our plan is not to reduce the price." >Link

well there isn't enough demand to have their stragety aimed at console sales, so they have to keep the price at the same to have any sort of profit, thats what they really mean.

ps3 has outsold 360 3 out of the first 5 months this year. With ps3s flying off the shelves a price cut is not needed at this point. The 360 is hurting right now...hence price cut.

umm... does no one remember that just about every time one console drops price, the other follows shortly after. This is of course a few days after that latter company denies any rumor about dropping price that is.

Sony can't afford to drop the price of the PS3. They have already lost 3.3 billion dollars on the PS3. They will be over 4 billion lost by the end of this year. They cant possible match the 360 or Wii in a price battle. Thats the truth. Facts not opinion.

MS just recently started turning a profit on the 360 which was cut down down to nothing after the RROD warranties which cost them billions. Whats funny is that y9ou try ti spin this into another attack on the 360 and it's RROD. Thats the only defense you have which is to try to shit focus on Sonys problems to Microsofts problems. But what you fail to realize is that Microsoft was profitable for the past fiscal year in it's Games division which also includes other computer related hardware and the Zune. So yes they did right off a Billion dollars for the RROD. It was done at the end of Fiscal Year 2007 so that Fiscal Year 2008 would be profitable. How has Sony done the past 2 fiscal years. Go read the article again. Microsoft is generating profits with just the 360 even with the Zune flopping big time. Sony is losing money even though the PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP are all included in it's numbers.

But it's enough to cancel out any profit the PS2 hardware and software make them. Anything the PSP hardware and software make them. Anything PS3 games make them. It's enough to push them 3.3 billion in the hole for fiscal years 2007 and 2008. Try to spin that.

Oh and while were at it. Microsoft is spanking Sony's a$$ with less console sales. With just 1 console vs 3 that are still on the market 360 vs PS2/PS3/PSP. Why you ask? Becuase they have turned the 360 into a sucessful business model. LIVE/games/hardware = profit for Microsoft. Even with the RROD. Even though the PS3 is outselling it worldwide every month. You can't call Microsoft desperate when they have dropped the price of the 360 Pro a total of 2 times for a total of $100.00 in the time span of 2 1/2 years. In fact it took them 1 1/2 years just to drop the price $50.00 the first time. Sony did it twice and introduced a cheaper/gimped sku 6-9 months after they launched the PS3. Thats DESPERATION.

So you know Microsoft turned a profit during the 3rd quarter of 2007. Which was reported in October 2007. It happens to be the first quarter of thier fiscal year.

My point is Microsoft has turned a profit in it's Entertainment and Devices Division every quarter this past fiscal year for a total of 4 quarters in a row.

I think Sony made a profit after the holiday season but it was because of the PS2 and PSP. The PS3 acutally ate into any potential profits. So how again is the PS3 going to turn things around??? MGS4 struggled to reach 3 million in sales in it's first month. In fact now that the initial hype has worn off and the few hundred thousand MGS4 bundles sold out sales have dropped back down to normal levels again. LBP and RFOM2 arent going to sell systems any more than Gears of War 2 or Fable 2 will. So again how are they goign to turn things around???

The 360 owns the PS3 on so many levels it's not even funny. Sony is playing the never ending catch up game. Sony, 2 years later is just now starting to add features the 360 came with at launch. Sony is just now starting to match games that the 360 had out over a year ago. Theres no doubt Resistance 2/Killzone 2/LBP will probably be great games, but then what ? It's over....LOL.

By mid 2010 the new Xbox will be about to launch. Which means by mid 2009 we will see 360's as low as 150$... Possibly lower. I know thats years away, but it takes a solid year to make a great game on any platform. Microsoft simply has more games under development than Sony does for the remainder of their life. I'm looking forward to a few PS3 games, but the bottom line is that Sony got owned this generation. ACCEPT IT

(OFF TOPIC) I was looking at VGchartz for the hell of it and noticed Wii Sports sold 25.23m, but the Wii's overall sales was 28.46m. How is that possible since all Wii's come with Wii Sports bundled ? Is it possible to buy a Wii without the game in another country or something ?

They then have to ship it to a retailer which costs money. The retailer pays a sum of money below the $399.00 price tag so they can "resell" it for a profit which costs Sony money. Sony has to advertise for the PS3 which costs money. So you have all those factors that are eating into Sony's bottom line. The PS3 is costing them money right now. DO YOU UNDERSTAND??? How can you lower the price when your already bleeding money. It's fiscally irresponsible. Thats why Sony's PR says they aren't worried about selling more units. They are worried about making profit. Which means no price cut and trying to maximize profits in other areas besides the hardware.
