	There is an optional PS3 firmware update for those users outside of Japan who wish to grab it. It does not update anything if you are not a Japanese gamer, apparently, and it is not required for download. If you like though, Sony says you can go to System Update and update. Just FYI for those who were asking. >Link

It apparently optimizes the Japanese store's performance. No need to d/l it and take a chance at bricking your system.

I agree with VaeVictus. No sense in chancing the FFOD. F*cked Firmware Of Death. I already saw on a PS3 forum a few people complaining about bricked consoles after the update.

I did it before i knew it was for Japan only and it was yet another 20+ minute wait for nothing. I don't understand what takes so long for the PS3's firmware updates. I don't understand how the 360 takes 30 seconds at best most times and the PS3 takes 15 to 25 minutes every time i update.

The PSN Demo/Video downloads seem to be slightly faster than XBL, but firmware updates are a different story. I should be able to download around 250 mb in 20 minutes, so what the hell is in these updates...lol ?

Downloaded pretty quick for me, I think under 5 minutes (was a pretty small update) and installed without a hitch. I knew it did nothing, but for some reason, I just enjoy the feeling of installing an update. I'm weird that way...

You should contact your High SPeed Provider if not, then something is absolutley wrong with your PS3, which I'm sure you were waiting for some one to say that.
