Square-Enix is building a brand new development studio in Los Angeles, it seems. According to the "career" section on the Square website, the company is advertising sever positions for the new studio, including 360 software engineer, project manager, 3D artist, and more. We suppose this means a new console game is in the works. Square likely already has the know-how for programming on the PS3.

Rumor mill for now, but the Japanese Square-Enix website has a new Bahamut URL that has a countdown on it. In just over 5 days, it seems a new game will be revealed that apparently centers around the God. As you can see from the image, it may have something to do with his origins, but that is just our speculation. Stay tuned.

Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has stated that Japanese developers and publishers need to band together and start acting as one if they do not want to fall further behind Western game companies. The industry has shifted to the West, as even prominent Japanese game figures like Hideo Kojima have said. Sounds like a good idea to us, but then again, it is nice to see the West shining through finally.

Apparently, hardware developer NeuroSky has developed a Brainwave Controller headset called MindSet, and together with Square, has developed game software for the unit which will debut at this year's TGS. The unit interfaces through a PC, and resembles a pair of headphones, with a boom-mic-like device that sits on the user's forehead. Sounds interesting, to say the least, if it works, that is.

According to Enterbrain, with the benefit of the price cut and the new bundle, as well as a major RPG release (Infinite Undiscovery), it seems the 360 has temporarily outsold the Wii. A pretty impressive achievement for the MS console, especially in Japan. We will see if it lasts.

The troubled Tecmo, or what is left of it right now, has rejected the overtures being made by Square, and decided to open takeover talks with Koei instead. Square maintains that the bid was a friendly offer, and that they will not attempt a hostile takeover. This means that a Koei buyout is likely. We think Koei is a much better fit for Tecmo anyway.

"Through a merger, we expect we can grow further by respecting both companies' identities and having an environment in which employees can fully exhibit their skills," said Tecmo and Koei in a statement, pointing to a choice for Tecmo which "has a higher possibility of improving corporate value."

According to an image of an ad for Star Ocean: The Last Hope that DT grabbed, the game looks like it is going to be an Xbox360 exclusive. Doubtful it is a printer error, like they say it might be.
