Project Gotham Racing 3 is one of the Xbox360’s most touted launch titles. Is the game worth purchasing? Yes, but only if you plan on using it in an online capacity, and let’s face it, if you are an Xbox360 early adopter, you likely are. Project Gotham Racing 2 was one of the most popular Xbox games released, with an online component that made other Xbox live enabled games look like single player solo games. It also looked great, a step up from the original Project Gotham racing, and a long way from Metropolis Street Racer. Almost all the owners of Xbox owned or played PGR2. This is a hard legacy for Project Gotham 3 to live up to. First of all I think we need to set something straight right off the bat. The Project Gotham Racing series is not a sim-style racing game. The game has sim elements for sure, but the racing itself is still widely considered to be arcade style. You know all this if you are a PGR fan though, I am not telling you anything new. With 80 cars and 52 track selections (from 5 locations) you certainly will not get bored racing. On the off chance you do, there is even a custom course creation system where you can create your own track using the different parts of a location. Bizarre claims you can make over 200,000 different track combinations, and they might indeed be correct. If anyone wants to count feel free to email me with the result. The tracks themselves are very reminiscent of the PGR2 tracks, anyone who is used to PGR racing will feel right at home. The tracks are superbly done, being from New York myself I recognized almost everything in the New York City streets. I can only assume they used the same amount of detail in the other locations since I do not live there (not because I did not play on them). |
