Now on to the games -- the Wii has some great first party titles for the system which will certainly help to make the console a success. First and foremost, Mario Galaxy is a fantastic looking adventure that is more reminiscent of Mario 64 than Mario Sunshine. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption looks more or less the same graphically as Metroid Prime 2. As for the Wiimote functionality, Metroid is probably the game that has the most problems. This does not mean that the Wiimote functionality is useless, it just means that it may take some getting used to for most gamers, and some gamers may just opt to use the pad. The new WarioWare game was pretty much tailor-made for the Wiimote. What can we say besides that? This is basically a fully functional console version of the DS WarioWare, complete with motion sensing control. WiiSports Baseball used the Wiimote as a bat, and the harder you swing the wand the harder the ball is hit. You can even tap the home plate using an up and down motion while you are waiting for the pitch. Truly inventive. Red Steel was the only third party game that we checked out that uses the Wiimote fairly well, it may need some tweaking before release. Overall, the Wii seems like it has tremendous potential. The motion sensing technology really does work as well as Nintendo claims, it is not just a gimmick. This system really has a great capacity to make interactive games that actually respond to player movement. |
