2008/03/20 13:55:21: Posted by DM
According to LootNinja, the Call Of Duty 4 map pack will be available to Xbox360 owners on April 3 for 800 MS points. The pack will contain 4 new maps that will add much needed diversity to the gameplay. On top of that, the GOTY edition, which will include these maps, will be released in a few more weeks. Now the bad news, PS3 owners will not be getting the map pack for 21 days after the XBox360 release. According to LootNinja, anyway. That part is rumor mill for now.

That's going to be a looong 3-week wait for the 5.9 Million consumers who "Own" the Playstation 3.

The 18 Million people who "Own" the Xbox 360 will be having a lot of fun during that time period.

5.9 and 18 million....LOL ? It's funny how you say VGhartz has incorrect sales numbers but does that only apply to Sony ? It's out of the question for M$ to ever lie isn't it Krogan **cough** Mr. Lithium ?...LOL.

It's also funny how you rounded Microsoft's numbers up a half a million and Sony's down numbers down almost 5 million....LOL. For anyone who cares the actual numbers are 360/17.59/ and PS3/10.87/....

Mr. Lithium your delusions are worse than i thought...Did you miss a dose again ? Sony sold 10 million units...Deal with it.... Now tell us that recycled garbage on how Madden runs at 60fps and has voice chat and how the PS3 has 4d graphics with dual HDMI ports with cancer curing abilities.

No need to respond Mr. Lithium....I did it for you...

Krogan that's 18 million sold to Retail. Unlike Sony that is actually sold to consumers...and it is over 10 million.
Written by arthur56k on 2008/03/21

and that 10 million is also a shipped figure, what are you suffering from? selective amnesia

FACTS

(1) There are FAR MORE Xbox 360 "Owners" than Playstation 3 "Owners" during the SAME time periods in their lives, and at this point in time.

(2) Sony's definition of the word "Sold," does NOT represent Sony's definition of "Owner."

(3) Sony recently released an official announcement that said there are 2.8 Million subscribers to the Playstation 3 network. Sony specifically said that those 2.8 Million subscribers represent "Over 50% of Playstation 3 owners."

(4) This means that 2.8 Million represents OVER 50% of the actual number of Consumers who OWN the Playstation 3 system. In other words, there are less than 6 Million "Consumers" who "OWN" the Playstation 3.

(5) This means that the Playstation 3 is FAR BEHIND the Xbox 360 in terms of how many consumers actually OWNED the system at equal points in their lives. There were over 10 Million Consumers who "OWNED" the Xbox 360 at this point in the life of the Xbox 360.

(5.1) VG Chartz specifically says that one of the key sources of information for detemining the number of systems "Sold," is from the manufacturer of the product (i.e. Sony). Sony says over 10 Million Playstation 3 systems have been "Sold." That is the number VG Chartz is using for their "Sales," figures. However, that does NOT change the FACT that there are LESS THAN 6 Million consumers who "Own" the Playstation 3.

(6) Sony's definition of the word "Sold," does not even mean that the system has been "Sold" to a retailer or wholesaler. The INSTANT a Playstation 3 has been produced and enters Sony's inventory, it is classified as "Sold," even though it hasn't been purchased by a Consumer, a Retailer, or even a Wholesaler.

(7) That's why there are MILLIONS of Playstation 3 systems collecting dust that have NO "OWNER," according to Sony, but have been "Sold," according to Sony.

(8) 100% Confirmed proof of this that everyone knows about is the fact that Sony said their goal was to "Sell" (e.g. Produce) 6 Million systems by the spring of 2007. Sony was actually only able to "Sell" (e.g. Produce) 5.5 Million systems by the spring of 2007. However, by the spring of 2007 the Playstation 3 was heavily criticized because there were FEWER than 3 Million "Owners" of the system.

(9) When Sony's Jack Tretton was in an interview, he was asked to explain why the Playstation 3 had "sold" less than half of what Sony's offically announced "Sales" goals were. He made the dumb statement of saying that the "Sales" (e.g. Produced) goals were only behind by 500,000 systems. The person interviewing him was rolling his eyes, because he knew that it was a FACT that there were FEWER than 3 Million Consumers who were Playstation 3 "Owners."

Bottom Line: The FACT is that Sony tries to use the word "Sold," as if it refers to the number of "Owners" there are. But that is NOT the case. Sony's definition of "Owner" represents what Microsoft and Nintendo refer to as "Sold." There are actually less than 6 Million Playstation 3 "Owners." There are over 18 Million Xbox 360 "Owners" and there are over 20 Million Wii "Owners."

Proof: Here is one of the online interviews where Sony's Jack Tretton clearly says that Sony has "Sold" 5.5 Million Playstation 3 systems, yet there is a chart provided making it clear that there are only 1.4 Million "Owners" that the system has been sold to worldwide. hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFIDsTsWJHw

You have been told countless times the numbers of PS3 accounts was for the United States, not worldwide, yet you still try to use this in your anti-sony banter. This is why you have 0 credibility, and this is why anyone who has any sense disregards everything you say.

You cannot just choose to ignore facts which inconvenience your extremist message.

you establish yourself as a tool more and more every post.

On topic: People seem to overlook te part where this is a rumor. I would wait until there is an official word before jumping in.

It does seem like an odd move, but i wouldn't be completely suprised if it is true.

Krogan misinformed? wha???? Here is a fact. Just saying the word Fact, does not make it so. Krogan you are wrong on the definition of Sales for MS and Sony, but you already know that.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/03/21

Hand Banana: Good point. This is just a rumor for now. If I were to speculate though. It could be something to do with Live vs PSN. How to implement DLC in each consoles services. Doesn't make sense any other way. 3 week exclusitivity is just garbage to pay for. Plus COD4 is selling very well on the PS3, expecially for a multiplatform game.

Hand Banana,

Actually that number given in the one article was for ALL of North America, not just the United States.

And the PS3 has sold very poorly in Japan. Remember, there were time periods when it was outsold by the Xbox 360 in Japan. Playstation 3 has NOT even come close to selling 2 million systems in Japan, like the unreliable VG Chartz says.

And if you want more proof that VG Chartz is messed up, I will tell you something that actually makes the PS3 seem stronger in North America than what VG Chartz has listed.

Remember the 2.8 Million subscribers being over 50% of PS3 "Owners." That implies there are slightly less than 6 Million Playstaiton 3 owners.

But VG Chartz says that the PS3 is currently at only 4.3 Million systems "sold" in North America...

So, something is obviously messed up BIGTIME if you look at things separately.

Look at them together, and you see that the 2.8 Million number (which is actually 2.9 Million now) was in reference to "Worldwide," not just North America...that is the ONLY way everything makes sense and perfectly falls into place.

Bottom Line: There are only 6 Million Playstation 3 "Owners" worldwide. Just watch that Jack Tretton video to see how messed up Sony is with the difference between an "owner" and a system that has been "Sold," but has not even been purchased by a retailer or a wholesaler.
Written by Cryos on 2008/03/22

not really krogan, because vg chartz overcalculates 360 numbers and undervalues PS3s.
Written by Krogan Battle Master Urdnot Wrex on 2008/03/22

Cryos,

Today must be opposite day. Microsoft has made it clear that there are over 18 Million Xbox 360 "Owners," and over 20 Million Xbox 360 systems that have been "Sold" to Retailers/Wholesalers.

With the Playstation 3, there are 6 Million "Owners" of the system, and 10 Million systems that have been produced. Of the 10 Million systems, far less than 10 Million have been "sold" to Retailers/Wholesalers.

"Sold" is a word that Microsoft and Nintedo define in the same way, but Sony defines very differently.

When a unit is manufactured, and comes off the assembly line, Microsoft and Nintendo do not consider the item "Sold," until it has been purchased by a Retailer or Wholesaler.

However, Sony considers the PS3 "Sold," the instant it is manufactured, even though it has NOT been purchased by a Retailer or Wholesaler. The instant Sony moves the PS3 from Production to Inventory, it is classified as "Sold," even though it will spend a loooong time collecting dust.

There are MILLIONS of PS3 systems that Sony classifies as "Sold," (which means that VG Chartz also classifies them as "Sold," because VG Chartz gets data from the manufacturer) but those units have still not yet been purchased by Retailers or Wholesalers; they are collecting dust in Sony's Inventory.

Cryos, why do you attempt to defend Sony and the inferior Playstation 3? PimpDaddy is right; Sony does NOT care about you in ANY way. Sony ONLY cares about your money. And Sony does NOT give billions of dollars to charity like Microsoft does. Bill Gates started the world's largest charity organization that is worth over $60 Billon dollars, and Microsoft gives more money to charity than any other business in the world--and that is when you do NOT count what the billionaires at Microsoft have donated.

Sony did a GREAT job with the original Playstation; it was easy to develop games for and inexpensive to develop games for. That's the way the Xbox and Xbox 360 are designed, too. Xbox 360 is called the greatest programming environment for videogames ever created.

But Sony has created hardware that is very unfriendly for developers TWO GENERATIONS IN A ROW now!...and this time it is VERY BAD with the Playstation 3.

Sony was able to get away with their mistake with the PS2, because they launched a year before the Gamecube and Xbox. But this time the role is reversed, and the PS3 is suffering the consequences.

But what's worse is that the owners of the PS3 have inferior games that launch later, aren't as good, are priced higher, don't rumble, don't have custom soundtracks, don't let you talk while playing online, ect...

Why stick up for that? Don't you have a desire to scream "YEAAAHHHHH!!!" into the ear of your opponent when you score against him in an EA Sports game? Xbox 360 lets you do that, but not PS3.

All I can say is that PimpDaddy is 100% correct. He explains things differently than I do, but we both think alike. I'm just amazed that you still attempt to defend the PS3 like a fanboy, even with all the fact-based information being discussed.
