I would be infinitely stoked it I were a participant in this beta. 3 years in the waiting, I want to see what this game has in store...even if in beta form.

Written by Sky on 2008/09/26

sony on a roll this week. wipe out is a blast too.
Written by blacktiger on 2008/09/26

How da hell do you get the BETA for PS3 ???

Notice PS3 has tons of BETA comparing to 360 ??

I find it weird because I don't like Beta myself but just for Killzone 2 I dont mind getting it as soon as possible !
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/09/26

XBL has more demo's than the PSN blacktiger, what's your point? It's cool that Sony is doing all of these betas, but it is no selling point.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/26

VaeVictus: BlackTiger is still trying to justify purchasing his PS3 instead of a 360.

Sky: Sony is on a roll. It looks like they are really focusing on thier first party games for the PS3. In fact I may have to permanently retire my Wait B3yond, Play B3hind, WaitStation, DustStation, etc jokes

Now if they would just lower the price of the PS3.

I havent downloaded Wipeout yet. How is it everyone???
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/09/26

Wipeout is awesome if you like that kind of game. I played it late last night. I was tied for 1st place in a tournament (best of 12) and had won the last 3 races when the host (who I came from behind and tied) quite on me. Other than that, I greatly enjoy it, not bad at all for $20. It looks PHENOMENAL! Super smooth framerate and very good audio.

Oh, and rumor is that Sony will drop the price of the 40G sku to clear stock, and possibly this weekend.

Edit "quite should be quit." It was after race 11 of 12.
Written by arthur56k on 2008/09/26

hope it lives up to the hype created, i have heard only positive things for months now
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

The 40GB PS3 is now $360.

Also lol @ blacktiger, never change.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/26

I know the 40GB just got discounted to $360.00 But 40GB isn't enough. So I would rather buy the 80GB for $400.00 or get a PS3 without a HDD for $300.00 and be able to go out and buy my own super sized HDD.

Besides that price is only for the "limited" amount of 40GB skus that are still left over in the retail channel.

I swear as much as I can be an Xbot. If Sony did a real price drop, they might just close that gap with the 360 by the end of the year...

Ugh I cant believe Sony is winning me over again.

The PS1 was like the new girl at school or work or the gym or church. She was hot, and you just had to get with her. Besides you didnt want to wait around for any other girls (N64)

The PS2 was like the girl who you had dated for a long time only to find out that she was lying to you all along 9Dreamcast), cheating on you with your best friend, so you dumped her and found a new girl (Xbox/Gamecube).

The PS3 is like this incredibly hot girl who you dated and found out she was stuck up and too high maintenance. So you dumped her, or cheated on her (360). Then she changed her attitude, and you gave her a second chance.

Thats how I feel about Sony's consoles anyways.
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/09/26

HDD's are not that expensive p1mp.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/26

I understand that VaeVictus. But I dont want pay a single red cent for a HDD that I will need to replace anyways. Especially since I can go out and buy any capacity HDD I desire. Why not give me the option of buying a PS3 without a HDD so I can go out and invest my money "1" time for the HDD I intend to use in the console???

I mean thats what I like about the Arcade 360. You can buy the HDD whenever you want, and some people may not use it online, so they will never buy a HDD.

I just want to be able to choose how I spend my money.

Anyways. back to my point. I am actually really starting to like my PS3. Maybe not as much as my 360, but definetly more than my Wii.

Written by VaeVictus on 2008/09/26

The Arcade 360 would be a much better deal if the HDD weren't an overpriced piece of proprietary hardware. (though Target has been selling the 20G discontinued HDD's for the 360 for $30)
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

"Why not give me the option of buying a PS3 without a HDD so I can go out and invest my money "1" time for the HDD I intend to use in the console???"

The answer to this is easy. The ps3 will not function without a HDD and it would be risky for Sony to assume that every potential consumer knows how to find and install a HDD into the ps3.

Since it's a requirement for the system to even work right, it's a requirement to be included, regardless of it's effect on cost/price.

@ Victus,

Unfortunately, the HDD has to be overpriced given the economics of the SKU prices. The closer they are in price, the lower the HDDs can be priced, but then you risk lowering one of the SKUs percieved value.

So it's a hole that MS has dug themselves into with no easy way out.

Any person that would call themselves a gamer knows to get a 360 with a HDD anyways, and even if a Core was given to said gamer as a gift, he can just pick up any HDD for the equal price of one of the more expensive SKUs anyways.

So really, the constant talk of the overpriced HDDs is a bit overplayed and overdramatized.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/26

VaeVictus: I agree. My biggest beef with the 360 was not including wifi, and then charging out the buttocks for the wifi adapter and their proprietary HDD's.

But I'm thinking they want to make up the money they are losing on manufacuring the 360's with the HDD's, and I also heard that XBL is able to recognize the HDD's in yoru 360 based on the serial number. So I am sure thier proprietary design had something to do with that.

But yes the HDD price is what kills it for people who buy the Arcade and want a HDD later, or people like myself who have a 20GB HDD and refuse to upgrade because the price of the HDD's is outrageous.

Although I may get the messenger kit/60GB HDD/paid XBL combo if I get tired of deleting old demos to make room for new demos.

How the "f" is Microsoft goign to push Digital Distribution, and then make it harder to get into it with the outrageous prices and small capacity of thier HDDs???
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/09/26

It isn't when you want to upgrade from the 20G to the 120G. When I bought my 1st 360, it was all that was available. When I bought my elite, had little space on my 20G hard drive. Had I decided to upgrade to 120 (at that time) it would have cost me $180.

It all depends on your perspective.

"How the "f" is Microsoft goign to push Digital Distribution, and then make it harder to get into it with the outrageous prices and small capacity of thier HDDs???"

Good point
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

Pimp, you can get a 120GB for around $80-$90 now like I did.

As for the Wifi complaints, I'm happy it's not standard. I know I may be the minority, but it's bad enough we have these no-nothing people on Live hosting games on their crap connections, I don't want a bunch of crap connections further degraded over wifi.

Besides, you can just pick up a wireless bridge or xbox1 wifi adapter for around $15-$30.

Honestly, these complaints are blown up bigger than they need to be.

Edit:

How is it a good point when the smallest capacity is really 60GB? That's more than enough for what the 360 offers.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/26

Xenos: Why not allow those of us who are tech savvy to contact Sony directly and order a PS3 sans the HDD for a cheaper price? We can sign a waiver/disclaimer that states that we have to buy and install our own HDD.

I know it wont happen. But these damn consoles are becoming more and more like PC's. Why not allow us to build our own console to spec???

Xenos: 60GB is enough "NOW" for people buying new a new 360. But what about the 20GB 360 owners? And what about forward thinking. If HD movies, videogames, and other content are going to be our future through digital distribution, then why not enable console owners "NOW"???

I'm sorry but look at how much space an HD movie takes to download on the 360. What if I wanted to own that HD movie? How is 20/60/120 big enough?

I have to give it up to Sony in the HDD option. They made it easy for us to upgrade as more content becomes available. I think in that aspect Sony was more forward thinking.

Also the nice thing about wifi being built in is that I dont have to run wires all over my house or reposition my HDTV, console, Cable modem, and router to all be in close proximity to each other. Not to mention I game on PSN just fine with wifi. No lag. In fact it's as stable as XBL is for my 360 wired.
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

You and I both know the answer to that.

Really guys, come on, don't let your personal opinions get in the way of logic. I don't agree with every choice made this hardware generation, but I at least understand why things are the way they are and have learned to accept it by now.

"then why not enable console owners "NOW"???"

Ummm aren't they enabling console owners "NOW" by offering the 60GB SKU?

Maybe I'm not understanding your questions right, regardless, I agree, Sony's open approach is more consumer friendly.

As for your wifi experience, you can not compare you to the millions of no-nothing people out there.

You guys really need to step out of your shoes and start seeing things by the bigger picture though

These consoles and the industry are not shaped around our own individual wants.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/26

Xenos: The logic for a $100.00 wifi adapter and $100.00 20GB HDD escape me.

Look I am fine with paying $50.00 foor XBL every year, or $50.00 for a controller. Even $20.00 for a plug and charge kit.

But for them to not include wifi, and to charge out the gluteous maximus for HDD's is not defensible. And I am a big 360 NuttHugger.

Just like I think including (forcefeeding/trojan horsing) Blu-Ray, but not forcefeedback, or HD cables, removing BC, etc.. was crappy on the PS3's part.

Though I like that Microsoft made the cheaper to purchase Arcade/Core sku and then gives you options to buy these accessories. At least make it affordable or attractive to buy these accessories.
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

I would love to buy a ps3 without wifi, blu-ray, or the crap controller, but you don't see me b!tching to this day about it.

I'm not defending anything and you mixing up my words regarding the logic.

I'm just saying that these prices are not forced on you. If it really bothers you (or anyone else), they could find cheaper solutions out there.

Logic is logic, no matter which way it's viewed.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/26

Xenos: I'm just sharing my opinions. Not trying to pass them off as fact. You right. Right now the 60GB HDD is enough for what the 360 offers "TODAY". But what about "TOMORROW"???

I know when I upgrade my 40GB HDD in my PS3, I'm goign to get a very large capacity HDD. I only want to replace my HDD once...
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

Edit:

Hope what I typed earlier makes sense, you kinda cut in between my posts Pimp.

I'm not trying to be difficult and honestly I would love to have this conversation with all you guys over an open channel (Live for example) so I can explain it better.

All I'm trying to say is that these complaints are way overplayed, especially 3 years into this generation.

What's going to change between today and tomorrow regarding the 360?

I'm lost to where this concern about tomorrow comes from, nothing is required to be downloaded or installed on your HDD so the "need" for a larger HDD is less than with the ps3.

And no, that's not a bash on either platform.
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/09/26

PS3's should come with the rumble controller now Xenos.

Logic is logic, and $180 was too much for a 120G hard drive.
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

Hell I'm a pack rat when it comes to DLC, I usually have demos and vids DLed just to have it and the 20GB served me fine.

The only reason I got the 120GB is because I started buying too much anime off of the marketplace =p
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/09/26

As far as the larger disc drive for the 360 is concerned, my 20G was filled with map packs and xbl arcade games. I had roughly 2G's left. It was eventually going to be a necessity. Thankfully (sarcasm) my 4th and last 20G sku died on me and I just bought a 120G elite.

Xenos, I know when you say anime you actually mean hentai, lol.
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

You're not understanding me at all victus.

My issue isn't with rumble but instead the design of the controller itself. It's been an issue since the ps1 days and I've never denied it, but I also won't b!tch about it to this day.

And what does logic have anything to do with a price being a rip off? When have I ever said that $180 "ISN'T" too much for a 120GB HDD?

You guys really lost me. =/
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/09/26

I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was only making my point about the cost. Logic is logic, just as $180 was too much. I see it from your p.o.v., just see it from mine.
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

No, I've always seen it from yours, but again I refuse to b!tch about it because I UNDERSTAND to why they are priced the way they are.

It's no different than anything else that's overpriced in the world. I don't agree with it, but I won't b!tch about it since I understand why it's at that price.

Besides all this talk is pointless since like I said you can get a 120GB for around $80. Yeah, still a rip off but compared to a $30 8MB memory card, $50 512MB memory card, and $100 60GB HDD; it's not THAT bad.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/26

Xenos: These consoles continue to add features and services. Hence the reason teh 60GB sku is here now and the 20GB sku is discontinued. The point I'm making is that Microsoft is denouncing Blu-Ray while championing Digital Distribution. So why not enable us to get the large capacity HDD's we will need for future content right "NOW" at an affordable price?

Or better yet give us the option of upgrading our HDD's like Sony did.

I dont think your being difficult Xenos. I'm the one being difficult. If you hadn't noticed I can be the most stubborn SOB on GR.

I agree with VaeVictus. 20GBs is crap. I can live with 60GBs right now for what I would use the 360 for. But I would sleep better at night knowing I had something in the neighborhood of 250GB-500GB. But thats just me... I dont like to delete stuff.
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

"Hence the reason teh 60GB sku is here now and the 20GB sku is discontinued."

I don't have much more time at work, but I did want to reply to this exact comment.

MS didn't provide the 60Gb to reflect their push of DD. No, they switched to 60GB HDDs because it was cheaper for MS.

Same with Sony. You think that Sony is paying more money for the 80GB HDDs in the 80GB ps3? No, they are probably getting these 80GB HDDs for as much if not less than the 40GB HDD. Same will be said for when they launch the 160GB HDD SKU in the wild as well.

NOTHING these companies do is for you or I, it's all for the $$.
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/09/26

I don't think my complaints are unfounded. At the time I bought my 360, I could either get a non HDD sku, or a 20G sku. Had I known that an elite would be coming out, I would have held off.

I feel the same way about Sony's handling of the "last gen" rumble features. It's BS, and unfair to the consumer.

That doesn't meant I can't enjoy the consoles, otherwise I wouldn't have purchased them. I just have a problem accepting some things about these companies. I can see it from their p.o.v., your p.o.v, but mine is the most important to me. :-D

I'm a selfish b@st@rd, what can I say.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/26

Anyways. What I really appreciate is that we can debate this back and forth and still be civil.]

I understand how things work, and that I cant change them. But all the same, it still pisses me off. So I feel the need to piss and moan like a little biznitch. :p
Written by VaeVictus on 2008/09/26

Well, p1mp, you can change them...if enough people make their voices heard to these companies. I guarantee we won't see a RRoD problem of such epic proportions with the Xbox 720 or whatever the h3ll it's going to be called.
Written by Xenos on 2008/09/26

As for the push of DD in general, it doesn't matter if you have a 60GB, 80GB, 120GB, or 500GB HDD. Eventually, you will run out of space if you take advantage of any DD service.

Oh no, you can change them, but the voice has to be loud enough.

Like Victus said, the public backlash, tainted image, and $1 billion charge will surely garauntee that the next Xbox is built like a brick.

Same for Sony, you can safely bet that the next playstation won't launch at such a high price.

As for the HDD's pricing, that in itself is mainly controlled by the price gap of the different SKUs.

I explained it in detail in one of the threads, and even looked for it, but had no luck finding it.

With that I'm out, wish we could talk like this more and again over an open channel instead of a comment board.
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/26

Also i understand the whole cost of manufacturing and the need to swtich from 20GB to 60GB. But it is still marketed in a way that is seens as beneficial to us consumers. We all know these companies only care about their bottom line. So if they can reduce or match current manufacturing costs on the HDD's by increasing the capacity, and at the same time make their consoles more attractive to consumers, then more power to them.

I just wish they would go the PC route and let me buy my console without a HDD, and allow me to install/upgrade the HDD myself.

I know it wont happen, but I figured I would make some noise anyways. Who knows maybe next generation both companies will pull their heads from thier arses...

I'm out too. TGIF.
Written by madgunde on 2008/09/26

Sorry to jump in late, been a busy week for me. Pimp, while a HDD-less PS3 would be great for people like you, in reality, it probably wouldn't sell for more than $20 less than the current low end SKU, just because of how cheap Sony must get these now outdated hard drives for. My question to you is, what are you going to back up your PS3 with? Why not get a 40GB SKU, swap out the HDD for whatever size you want, and put the original 40GB in a $20 USB enclosure and use it to back up your game saves? Myself, when I upgraded my notebook's 120GB HDD to 250GB, I put the 120GB drive in my PS3 and turned the original 60GB drive into an external drive for backup.

As for the why, MS overcharges for accessories because it helps them make back some of the money they lose on the console. If the accessories were affordable, the console would be more expensive. Personally, I think that's the more consumer-friendly way to do business, but it would probably have a negative impact on 360 console sales, so we can't really argue that it's the wrong choice for MS.

Sony has chosen to take the opposite approach, by having a higher initial price, but giving you far more standard features. Overall value is better, but only if you want/use the features that they choose to bundle. People who value those features and are willing to pay more up front to get better value on the features will probably prefer Sony's strategy. People who don't want to pay for stuff they might not use and would rather have a lower up-front cost (even if in the long run it may cost as much or more) will find the MS strategy appealing. They can build the system they want in more bite-size chunks rather than having to pay up front for the whole enchilada.

The MS way has a lower barrier for entry into the market, while the Sony way has a lower barrier of entry to access more advanced features. What I mean by that is MS makes it easier for more people to get a console, even if some of those people won't be able to afford the cost of doing EVERYTHING that the console can do. So some people are left out of the total experience but can at least get a taste who might not have had the chance otherwise. Sony on the other hand allows anyone who can afford to get in the game unfettered access to do everything that the console can do without having to pay extra. If they were restaurants, MS would be a-la cart fast food and Sony would be all you can eat buffet.

Anyways, not looking to start an argument, I was just thinking out loud.

In the end, I think it's great that MS and Sony have taken vastly different approaches to their respective consoles pricing strategy, because it's clear that some people prefer one and some prefer the other. If both were persuing the same strategy, there would be far less differentiation, and half of the people would be left with no choice that appeals to their preference.

So how do anyone get Killzone 2 beta,

do you have to get Qore ?

Your right Xbox Live Arcade does have more demos than PS3, but they are all ports...
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/27

blacktiger: Seriously just stop talking. You have no clue about whats on XBL in comparison to PSN. I know this. Guys like myself, VaeVictus, JB33, Poprocker, incoming00, and a few others on this site would school you any day because we have both consoles.

In fact some of us have all 3 consoles this generation.

Why dont you hollar back when you become a gamer instead of a fanboy.
Written by blacktiger on 2008/09/27

what;s a fanboy ?

Is it those idiots talk good about MS when they have your money and not fix RROD ?

sorry thats not me !
Written by PimpDaddy on 2008/09/27

Fanboy (sometimes spelled fanboi) is a term used to describe any individual who is devoted to a single subject in an emotional or fanatical manner, or to a single point of view within that subject, often to the point where it is considered an obsession.

That describes you perfectly BlackTiger. Your devoted to your PS3 so much that you spend all your time defending it while attacking the 360.

Again your hung up on RROD. I'm here to tell you that RROD is under control. If you get RROD Microsoft will fix it for free for 3 years. And I have owned 2 360's that haven't had RROD. Why even talk about RROD if you dont own a 360, dont ever plan to own one, so therefore have no clue what the heck your talking about?

Which is why I say be a gamer not a hater. Though I may not like Sony, I do like the PS3. Though I am not the biggest fan of Nintedno or Microsoft either, I do like the 360 and Wii. Though I may diss the PS3 alot, and the 360/Wii from time to time, I still bought them, still enjoy them, and hope they are all successful, and have great games.

Unlike you who hates a game just because it is on the 360. Who thinks only the PS3 has good games. Still believes that the PS3 is twice as powerful as the 360, when in reality they are both pretty much even in performance. It's very obvious to everyone on here that you lack perspective and are blinded by your love for Sony.
