The gameplay on the Xbox360 actually benefited from a few tweaks in response to complaints from the Xbox/PS2 version. The AI players will now attempt to take 3-point shots (finally), and the charging has been toned down. Good thing too since it was so bad that the fouls were called left and right.

The animations do use more frames than last generation’s version and it shows. The motion captures for the players are superb, and to be honest, on the whole, the motion capturing on the Xbox360 has been impressive overall. Maybe the power of the unit allows for better capping, it sure looks like it. By the way, the game also has some added animations for the cover star, Shaq.

The actual player control is the same as it has been for the last few incarnations of the NBA 2k6 series, and the shot stick is back. The right analog stick is used to make shots and it adds just that extra bit of control some players like to use. The one thing I want to mention that takes some getting used to is the foul shooting. You have to use the right analog stick and pull down to being the shot and push up right at the top of the throw. Takes a few shots to get it down, for sure. Another tip is to make sure you check the control layout before you jump in and play, some of the buttons may not be where you remember them.

Another addition this year is the duel player control. When you are on offense, you can select a player who is not in control of the ball and direct him to cut to the basket or set up for a three point shot. Once you get the hang of this trick, you will wonder how you ever got along without it. It is a great way to get around big guards.
